MAC Unsung Heroes: Lady Danger Lipstick

November 28th, 2011 by Karen 36 Comments

“Lady Danger to Ruby Woo! Lady Danger to Ruby Woo! Come in, Ruby Woo! Do you copy? Over.”

“This is Ruby Woo. I read you loud and clear, Lady Danger. What’s your 20? Has Russian Red been neutralized? Over.”

“That’s affirmative, cap’n. Russian Red has been neutralized. I’m leaving the checkpoint now. Returning to base. Over.”

“Copy that, Lady Danger. Good work!”

Russian Red, Ruby Woo and Lady Danger may sound like secret agent codenames, but they’re actually three of MAC’s most popular red lipsticks.

If Russian Red’s too cool for you, but Ruby isn’t quite warm enough, give pinup worthy MAC Lady Danger a try ($14.50). More coral than red, it has a matte finish like both Ruby Woo and Russian Red, but it’s warmer than both of them.

I love all three colors, but I reach for Lady Danger more often when I’m in a playful mood. Like Ruby Woo, it’s on the warmer end of the spectrum, but I think it has a very faint shine that loosens it up a little. Ruby Woo seem more formal and dressier to me.

The MAC mattes last a good, long while on my lips, and Lady Danger is no exception. She’ll stick around through a 12-hour day, but just like other MAC mattes, she can be quite drying, so I’ll wear her on top of a layer of moisturizing lip balm.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I hope you got through today without any major drama for your mama. What was the highlight of your day? Mine was probably my run a little earlier tonight. I struggled through five miles, which was about four miles more than I wanted to run.

P.P.S. Oh, did you happen to catch The Walking Dead last night? More melodrama (wah!), but those last few minutes sure were intense! What did you think? I sure feel sorry for Rick…

Russian red is a staple for me. Gosh, that walking dead season finale made me cry over a zombie. I’m such a big zombie fanatic, and practically watched every movie there is, but nothing made me feel as emotionally intense as last night’s episode. Can’t wait to see the walkers back on Feb.

I loved your clever intro, Karen. Russian Red is my tried and true blue red, but I totally agree about Lady Danger being more playful and I’ve been favoring this shade more lately. She always looks great with Redd lipliner. What liner do you use?

Karen, I finally got Ruby Woo! The universe kept pointing me toward it. Need Russian Red, too.

I like Ruby Woo more than I expected, just need an occasion to wear it now. 🙂

Been intending to for a while — just being lazy. I have had a craving for red for a while now. Getting older and bolder. 🙂

Funny that you posted a swatch of Lady Danger next to Ruby Woo – my favorite way to wear Lady Danger is in the center of my lips over Ruby Woo. They look great together!

Good thing they are permanent. Then I am in no hurry to get them. Perhaps, I will exchange my 6 MAC empties for one of them? 🙂

this lipstick makes me think of that song — “hold on tight, y’know she’s a little bit dangerrrouuussss…” haha!

    i <3 Lady Danger – i dig warm reds a lot!

the last 5 minutes of TWD were the best 5 minutes of this season. i really hope they pick it up when they come back from hiatus.

i dont necessarily agree with their decision to do what they did … they were after all guests in that farm. plus … im really really really beginning to dislike Shane. what an a**.

Oh my gosh, ROXETTE! You just got totally ’90s on me. 🙂

I agree with you regarding the last five minutes of the show. It got really Lord of the Flies there at the end. I hope they bring that edge-of-your-seat tension back come February. I miss that from the first season.

I’m glad, though, that they’ve developed a couple of characters who I ended up really liking (Glen and Daryl).

crazy crazy ending — made up for a bit of a boring half season thus far!

roxette FTW! LOL and yes i did get totally 90s on you for a moment tharrrr!!! 😀

I felt that this season has been kinda slow compared to last. I think it has to do with Frank Darabont leaving the show along with budget issues (apparently it’s very expensive to make… must be all that zombie makeup, haha).

I listed to Roxette all the time circa 1989/1990 after Pretty Woman came out and they were on the soundtrack. It must’ve been love, but it’s oooooooover now! LOL

I like how bright and fun this colour looks on your lips, and the name (Lady Danger) is pretty cool, too. I still haven’t rocked a bold red lip yet. I need to do more research before I invest in one, and hopefully it’ll be something I love and that I’ll wear beyond the holiday season.

Your swatches have been very helpful as always, Karen. Thank you!

You can rock a bold red lip! If you feel uncomfortable at first, maybe just wear it around the house so you can get used to it. That’s what I do with colors I’m unfamiliar with.

That’s a good idea. I think it’s just that there are so many great reds out there that it gets confusing when it comes to picking out which shade would look best.

I have a yellow undertone, so I’m guessing I should use a warm-based red…but there are still so many options…hehe!

Hey, if you don’t already have a post about tips and tricks for choosing a bold red lipstick, would you consider putting one up, Karen? I think a lot of people would find it so helpful! 🙂

The Walking Dead! OMG! My jaw was on the floor and I had tears in my eyes at the end of the last episode. That never even crossed my mind as a possibility; I always just assumed (and hoped) it would be the usual TV formula and they would find her. But I can also really appreciate the fact that they went there! And can I just say that I <3 Darryl?!?

They’re ALWAYS out of stock in our mac counters so I never had the chance to swatch them. it’s my first time to get a red lipstick so I’m kinda hesitant. but I reeeaally wanna try it! all my lipsticks are pinks, I gotta have at least one red! haha! which one do you think would look better on an nc40-ish? I have brown eyes and dark brown hair, btw 🙂 Thank you! I love your blog btw!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
