MAC Unsung Heroes: Syrup Lipstick

April 15th, 2011 by Karen 33 Comments

Sweet! Every time I wear syrup, strangers stop to ask me what it is. Wait — that didn’t come out right. No, not corn syrup or maple syrup, although those are also great. I’m referring to pretty pink MAC Syrup ($14.50), a permanent member of the MAC Lustre Lipstick line.

Described as a cloudy pink on the MAC website, this hydrating, cool-toned lippie hides a hint of purple behind its shiny finish. I dig the way it looks, but my lips love the way it feels — not too thick nor thin. And it’s a great value, too, thanks to its versatility. It looks great with everything from dramatic smokey eyes to conservative everyday looks.

Syrup on my lips; MAC Blushbaby on my cheeks

As befits the name, Syrup sweetens the heck out of looks, especially eye looks featuring purple, blue, gray and/or black. I also like to pair it with pink blushes like MAC Blushbaby, Dollymix, Pink Swoon and Well Dressed.

Don’t worry about cavities, though, because it won’t cause them. 🙂 This Syrup just has a mild vanilla taste and scent.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love MAC lipsticks, and this one just seems naturally beautiful – and complementing to many skin colors!

Syrup was one of my first M.A.C. lipsticks. My collection has grown since, but I always find myself reaching for it the most. I always pair it with Love Child lip glass. It’s such a versatile color, and probably the only one I’d actually consider stocking up on.

I love reading your MAC unsung heroes series 🙂 I’ve never actually tried a MAC lipstick before, since I’ve heard that some of the formulas can be a bit drying. This one is going to the top of my to-buy list now!

I think that my blush obsession is starting to wane and I’m starting a new obsession with lipsticks. I really need to try this one out the next time I’m at the MAC counter. It looks like it would work well with most all skin tones.

I’m wearing it today (and yesterday)! I feel like it is mischaracterized as a lustre because my experience is that it wears more like a demi-matte, but I love it anyway. I think it helps make my lips look a little fuller, which I consider miraculous!

Syrup is my every day go-to lipstick, it is a perfect neutral and I never have to worry about it not “going” with my other make-up or clothing. I can almost put it on without a mirror it wears so easily! I will always have this one in my purse, glad to know it’s someone else’s favorite too!

It’s funny, I bought Wet n Wild Rosebud lipstick today, and I think it is similar to Syrup. Might be a little lighter.

Hope your mission is exciting and fun up in Toronto! I’m jealous – I mean, I’d love to your sidekick on your secret mission, whatever it may be (how would it NOT be fun with you??? ^_^), but Toronto is also one of my favorite places in the entire world. It’s gorgeous – not sure how the weather is right now over there, but in general, I love the skies, the people, the land…=) Have a wonderful time out there! =)

I bought a tube of this several months back when I wandered over to the MAC counter asking for a pink lipstick that would work with my warmer, tan asian skintone. I love it!
