Unsung MAC Makeup Hero: A Gorgeous Golden Girl

August 18th, 2009 by Karen 33 Comments

MAC never rests for long on their laurels, and they don’t give fans a lot of time to digest the many fantastic shades in their permanent line because they’re always bringing out new limited edition ones.

Take Gorgeous Gold, for instance. Like Patina and Arena, two of my favorite MAC permanent collection ladies, I paid her no mind for years.

She’s not your average shimmery gold shadow. Gorgeous Gold’s complex and unusual and unlike any other color in my stash.

It goes on like a cool lemony gold, at certain angles flashing to a shimmery green — kinda like getting two colors in one. 🙂

One of my favorite daytime looks lately has been padding Gorgeous Gold on my lids and lining my upper lash line with MAC Humid. It’s easy, casual and makes my brown eyes *pop*.

What say you about Gorgeous Gold? What other ways would you wear it?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Speaking of MAC limited editions, the new Make-Up Art Cosmetics collection hit the website earlier today. I’ve been playing Fill the Shopping Cart for hours.

It’s a gorgeous color. I’d probably wear as part of a autumn-themed smokey (the gold on the lid and brown and orange mixed smoked out on the ends).

Ah, Fill the Shopping Cart is fun…as long as you don’t press the checkout button or you have your 35 lb terrier up on your lap and she accidentally presses the button. Then you scream and have to find a way to cancel everything!

      Hi Kate & Zena,

That would be really pretty. I love autumn/sunset eye looks.

Ha, Zena’s only trying to help when she does that. 😉

I use GG quite a bit when I do a quick eye look. GG on lid, Soft Brown on crease & Shroom as a highlighter. I will use Waveline (or now the new Lancome blue gel liner) for an added pop on my upper lash line.

Pretty! I have all of those colors so I’ll have to try this look. Thanks for the suggestion. 🙂

I bet that would look slammin’ with Urban Decay Shattered in the outer corner/along the lower lashline.

It’s really a gorgeous yellow, but I don’t use so often yellow colors. I just don’t have inspiration for this one:)

I wear it as a blush and put a little bit of pink over it so it would be a really pretty shimmery pinky gold blush.

I totally agree with you Karen.

I can’t tell if it’s one of my favs, because it’s difficult to say so with such a huge collection. However, GG has a lots of possible combinations and the finish is incredible!

My next MAC eyeshadow must be Patina…need it!

      Hi Vero,

Patina = awesome. You won’t regret it.

Do you have All That Glitters? I think that’s the next MAC perm shade on my list. 🙂

I need to get this! I’m trying to show some love to some MAC permanent items. Right now, I’m trying to get some wear out of one of my favorite lipglasses Lychee Luxe.

I bought this based on a review you did Karen 🙂

Lychee Luxe! I will never get tired of that color. You gotta get Spite and Nymphette next. 🙂

Back when I had a thing for bold colours (I’m a neutral lady now), I’d use Gorgeous Gold on the lid, MAC Aquadisiac on the crease, and sometimes a bit of MAC Teal pigment on the outer corner of my eyes.

hey Karen, thank you for this post. Gorgeous Gold is my second most used e/s. I absolutely adore it coz it goes well with other golds, greens, teals, blues and even purple. My favourite way to wear it is with Aquadisiac and Freshwater

      Hi Elle,

It goes so well with the greens, doesn’t it? I didn’t expect it to be so interesting… it looks kinda typical in the pan.

Which of the new MAC fall releases are you most excited about?

    Hey Karen!

I’m kinda ‘meh’ on most of the stuff in the Makeup Art Cosmetics collection, but I’m sure I’ll walk away with at least one quad and a pigment, and probably a lipstick. I’m weirdly looking forward to the black lipstick collection coming out from MAC, even though I’d probably never wear it seriously.

No Karen, I don’t have All that glitters…and now I don’t have the shade present. But I love almost all MAC eyeshadows hahaha

By the way, I’ve tried gorgeous gold+humid today and I really liked it!! If you could see the look to make comments…:)

    Thanks so much!

I’ve never tried gold before, but I need to learn to incorporate it into some of my looks!
I’m trying to decide what I want from the latest MAC launch, too. I just got some stuff from the Hautelook sale on Rock and Republic cosmetics (40% off — woohoo!) — BUT, there went some of my spending cash for the MAC stuff . . .

Although it’s a beautiful color, I don’t own Gorgeous Gold. If I did, I would probably pair it with browns for a neutral look.

I placed my new MAC order yesterday. Only 3 items–Photo Realism quad, Off the Page single shadow and Obviously Orange liner. I’m so proud of myself lol!

I’m quite pale, and Gorgeous Gold looks very green on me. I love it. It’s a holographic citrus-y yellow green. I LOVE wearing it with M.A.C Stars and Rockets. I always get compliments when I’m working (I’m an artist for M.A.C) It’s also gorgeous with Motif if you like a softer, more blended look.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
