Are You a MAC Wonder Woman?

January 26th, 2011 by Karen 364 Comments

MAC Wonder Woman
I bet you didn’t know I filled in for Wonder Woman once…

Unless you’ve been holed up in your secluded superhero lair (every hero needs one, yo!), chances are you’ve probably heard rumblings about the new MAC Wonder Woman Collection, which twirls onto shelves February 10 in North America and internationally this March.

MAC teamed up with DC Comics this time to create a limited edition makeup collection inspired by one of the toughest ladies in comic book history. She fights crime in foxy hot pants (and sometimes a skirt) and has a penchant for practical accessories, like bullet-deflecting bracelets, magic lassos and boomerang headpieces, too!

There’s no denying it — this girl is tough AND cute.

Not bad for 2,000 years old (I wonder which face cream she uses).

Just like Diana Prince right before a beam of magic light transformed her into Wonder Woman, I’ve been practically spinning in circles in my knee-high boots ever since I saw the first promo pics for this super-sized 33-piece collection for eyes, lips, face and nails.

And now it’s time…

Sit back, relax, and have a look, fearless reader. Let me know what ya think.

But first, a comic interlude… 🙂

The collection’s launching March internationally — still don’t have firm dates for the individual countries, so you’ll probably want to keep checking with your counter to see when they’ll be getting it in. 🙂

He’s actually REALLY obsessed with the Lasso of Truth. Like, he stalks it and has snuggled with it a few times OBSESSED. 🙂

Anywho, I sometimes have trubs with blues too — this palette makes it particularly easy, especially with Deep Truth Eyeshadow.

      Hi Carly,

They’re a little better (at least the 109, 224 and the 213 are). They’re not as scratchy as the ones I’ve tried in the past, which is a big plus!

Omg Karen, you ARE my favorite.

While I love the look of the lady justice quad, I find as blue eyed blonde I struggle to make blues not look cheap on me :/ I will absolutely be picking up the quad in defiance, though. What beautiful colors! I cannot wait to go get it! Thank you so much for this post 🙂

I used to date a guy (this was way before El Hub) whose mom was like straight up Martha Stewart. She would make me homemade apple butter and it was DAYUMN DELICIOUS. Like, she’d pick the apples from their orchard at the crack of dawn delicious. I never really missed the guy after we broke up (we were just too different), but I really, REALLY missed his mom’s homemade apple butter.

So, Karen, you said you’ve had a couple of big projects? What on earth could they have been? 🙂 This is fantastic – I just have to rave about the whole thing because from the amazing “comic book” to all the swatches and all the FOTDs, it’s an incredible amount of work! We’re so lucky that you’re doing this blog!!!

I have to say that I need some time to digest this because I want everything in this collection. Even things that I know I would never use. It’s deep breath time! The things I actually know I’d wear are the Lady Justice Quad and Secret Agent lipglass. I’m really interested in Russian Red since you and others like it so much. I don’t think I could pull it off, but I may as well swatch it! Speaking of, Heroine looks great on you but would most likely be a disaster on me. Anyway, thanks for all this hard work. I can’t wait for this collection to come out. And I’m soooo jealous of those red and white boot toppers!!! 🙂

Dude, you could TOTALLY work Russian Red. It might be a little shocking to see yourself in such a bold lip if you’re not used to it, but maybe try wearing it around the house first just so you can get acclimated to seeing yourself in it. I swear it looks GREAT on everyone. Hey, if it was good enough for Madonna’s world tour…

Anywho, I’m thinking of wearing those crazy boot toppers out to the grocery store later on today. We’ll see how adventurous I’m feeling.

Let me know if you have any more questions about the collection — I’m always happy to help!

I’m going to give the RR a try and hope I don’t scare the hair off the cats walking around the house in it. 🙂 The Hubs and the kids have seen much worse looks than that, so they probably won’t bat an eye!

I think you should take a spin through the store with the whole costume on and just have the air of “oh, hey, grapes are on sale…”. I had to run in to our local store as “sexy Princess Leia” once and people loved it. It was around Halloween and I assume everyone knew we were off to a party, but still. 🙂

      Hi Advah!

Ya know, both the blue and the green quads are pretty, but the blue has a little more flava to it, if you know what I mean. 🙂

Anything else in the collection catch your eye?

Hmm I love the colour of the golden pigment and the Heroine lipstick. They’re not colours I’d wear or could pull off, but they must look just gorgeous on dark skintones!

HAHA! Wonder Woman needs a sticker on her jet that says, “Powered by Nutella.”

Anywho, about that glitter… I’ve already spilled it three times. 🙁 There is glitter all over my frickin’ desk and living room! If you are clumsy in any form/fashion you have to be very careful with it.

      Hi Kiran,

They’re better than the ones I’ve tried in the past (not as scratchy, a little more dense), but honestly I prefer the full-sized brushes to these. I think they’re much better quality.

This is such a great post, Karen, I love how you saved cute little Tabs! I had a few questions…first, I heard there were supposed to be four eyeshadow palettes- a brown one besides the three you posted. Do you know if there’s any truth to that? Also, how do you like that penultimate liner, do you find it long lasting?

Thanks for any answers you can give and for all the awesome swatches/pics!

      Hi Lucia,

As far as I know, the official promotional materials only show three quads, not four. I think this is it (not that I’m disappointed!).

And re: the Penultimate Liner — yes, it does last long (one of the reasons why I loooove it), but I find it extremely difficult to use. The tip is really stiff, which makes it hard for me to draw a straight line. If you want recs for an easy-to-use liquid liner just let me know…

I think I can resist everything but the eye quad is defiance and the lipstick in heroine. Lately I’ve been on a weird coppery brown lipstick kick. According to everything my grandma told me, we of fair complexions can not rock anything close to brown on our lips, and maybe it’s true, but those rusty colours get my heart a-pumpin! Can’t resist, even if i look like a fool!

Yes, it’s the Kate Spade case (I got it for Christmas). I like that it feels sturdy and love how it looks. One thing that kinda annoys me, though, is that now when I put the phone on vibrate it sounds SO LOUD! The hard case amplifies the sound so if I have it sitting on a table then it scares me when it goes off.

Having said that, I love the Lipglass in Wonder Woman, but I would have to see it with my own complexion since I’m a pasty pale NC 20/25. Thanks for the swatches!

      Hi May,

They’re above average for length/volume, but I wouldn’t depend on them solely for that if you like really dramatic lashes. I usually like to layer them on top of a black mascara first to bump up the volume.

Sorry if this has already been asked but, what do you think about the pigmentation of the Valiant Quad? Is it worth buying or investing in some individual colors. I’m looking for some good greens and the fact that this one was matte appealed to me but I don’t want to waste money on sheer or hard to work with shadows. Thanks!

Not to steal Wonder Woman’s thunder or anything but this collection is so sweet it totally has be hoping there’ll be a Harley Quinn and Ivy release!!

Can’t you just imagine the luscious reds and seductive greens. I mean with Ivy you’d get ALL shades of green from a gold flecked shimmery moss to an iridescent sheer kiwi! Oh and the reds!

Then Harley Quinn would have a lovely collection of blacks, purples, grays, and whites.

This Wonder Woman release has me aching for some more comic book action and I seriously hope after she gets her spot like the good and bad girls of Gotham get theirs!

Wow, you really took a lot of time and effort to do the comic, and the result is amazing! It’s posts like this that got me hooked on your blog.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
