The Walking Dead. It’s not just a TV show anymore.
It’s also an apt description of moi, specifically my eye area when I’ve stayed up too late pondering important issues like mint tea ice cream (how would it taste? — amazing or nasty?), or when I’ve stayed up too late reading post-apocalyptic young adult “literature.”
So yeah, I’m becoming increasingly familiar with my zombie girl side, although I have yet to develop a taste for brains…
But who knows? If I don’t start getting to bed earlier, I might start craving fleshy snacks!
Thank goodness for MAC Paint Pot in Indianwood ($18.50)… Right now it’s the only thing slowing the transition to full-on undead.
Whenever I get up looking a little worse for wear, I like to smear this shimmery bronze cream shadow on my lids with a finger and blend out the edges with a fluffy domed eyeshadow brush (I’m partial to the MAC 217).
The stuff is nothing short of a minor miracle! It brightens my lids, making me look better rested, radiant and almost glowing (almost).
You can wear it with easy, elegant looks, like with some mascara and MAC Teddy eyeliner along your lash lines for a quick work look, or in sultry, seductive looks with false lashes and MAC Feline eyeliner along your lash and water lines.
Indianwood on the left, with MAC Paint Pot in Rubenesque for comparison
MAC Powder Blush in Supercontinental on my cheeks and MAC Lipglass in Ready to Roam on my lips; both from the new Styleseeker collection
Other ways to wear Indianwood…
- A golden bronze glow — Layering MAC Woodwinked Eyeshadow atop Indianwood gives eyes the most gorgeous, sexy glow.
Paired with coral cheeks and lips, it’s a perfect look for weekend brunch. Effortless and casual.
Try it with the new MAC Powder Blush in Supercontinental, maybe with MAC Lipstick in Ravishing patted lightly on your lips.
- A precious jewel — I’ve been noticing a lot of glittering sapphires, amethysts, rubies and emeralds on beauty counters this fall, and wouldn’t ya know it? — Indianwood looks downright gorgeous with these colors!
Sometimes I’ll use it as a base and layer a gemstone shade on top — just on my lids and barely into the crease — for a look that’s one part shimmery, one part smokey and two parts pretty.
- Neutralize meh — When it comes to neutrals, Indianwood is like a phaser set to stun! It layers well with warm browns, beige shades, peaches and khakis. I wear it often as a base for many of my favorite MAC neutral Eyeshadows, like Soft Brown, Saddle and Brown Script, to name a few.
Oh, if you can, try to swatch Indianwood on yourself before you bring it home, just in case, as it can pull very orange on some skin tones.
Welcome to the apocalypse!
So, Enclave, by Ann Aguierre — highly, highly recommended.
Based on how it began, I thought, “Oh, this is a total Hunger Games ripoff!” and there are some similarities — a sci-fi premise featuring a tough female lead character who’s thrust into a life-threatening situation — but I hope you give it a chance.
If you like the genre, I think you’ll love Enclave. Deuce, like Katniss, is resourceful. In the book, she’s been trained from a young age to protect the people in her group of survivors (her enclave). They’re forced to live in tunnels beneath NYC, hiding from “the freaks,” flesh-eating (presumably) human mutants who terrorize the post-apocalyptic surface world.
I couldn’t put it down!
Pretty well written, too. Better than usual for the genre, and it has some interesting things to say about group thinking in a crisis.
It’s classified as young adult, but I think it might be a little too intense for tweens who haven’t had “the talk” yet. Just as a caution. There are some very disturbing and frightening elements…
But it sure was a good read! And there’s a sequel coming out in a couple weeks.
Can’t wait. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Wow, is that pretty. And thanks for the book recommendation. I’m always looking for good books to read.
Karen says
You’re welcome! I hope you give both the Paint Pot and the book a try.
Have you ready anything good lately?
Angel says
Love the paint pot! I think I’m going to head to MAC at some point for a paint pot haul! I swear these days the things I’ve been getting from MAC are all the stuff you’ve featured!
I loved Hunger Games so I think I will give Enclave a try! Thanks for the recommendation!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Angel. I hope you like both the Paint Pot and the book.
Have a nice day!
Krystle (Baking Beauty) says
Another paint pot to add to my wishlist! It looks incredible with the red mac lipglass!
Karen says
I hope you try it. It’s a great neutral to have around. 🙂
Happy Tuesday!
Lulle says
I think Indianwood might be a little too dark for my skintone to be a real brightener. Bare Study looked more like what I need!
Karen says
Bare Study is a great choice, Lulle!
Tracy says
I can’t help but stare at your blush! It’s so pretty on you! That’s it. Must get! 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Tracy! I can’t keep my hands off of that shade. It’s really a beautiful coral.
Phyrra says
I like Indianwood. It’s a really flattering neutral.
Karen says
Amen to that! Have you ever tried it with Woodwinked layered on top! It’s magic.
Nina says
I was looking for Enclave at the bookstore over the weekend and did not find it. :-/
Indianwood is lovely – I might make a quick purchase – which is all ive been doing since last week haha!
Karen says
Hmm. Maybe Amazon? I read mine on the Kindle…I think you would like it. I am literally counting down the days until I can get hold of the sequel. In a perfect world I’d find a way to clear my day so I could read it all in one day, uninterrupted, from start to finish! 😀
Nina says
I might just buy the e-book!
Ill buy both the first and second books next week so I can have a 2 book marathon session!
Kiss & Make-up says
Aaah, paint pots… So many to choose from. My idea is always to buy just those that you really can’t live without, the absolute must-have colors. But thanks to you that must-have list just keeps growing :-/
Karen says
There are a lot of great colors! This is definitely one of those must-have base shades, IMHO. 🙂 Bare Study, too! Oh, and Soft Ochre…
Kiss & Make-up says
Yep, definitely Soft Ochre! I like the pure black Blackground, too.
KK says
I love that you featured this color! This is my absolute favorite Paint Pot and one of my overall eye favorites.
Karen says
Hi KK,
This is definitely one of my go-to colors as well. What do you like to wear with it? I love Woodwinked layered on top!
MM says
I’m interested in figuring out which of these would work for me. I’ll bet Indianwood will go orange on me. Is Bare Study good for someone a bit paler?
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
Oooh I actually want this one more than Rubenesque now–I really like that it would be just a quick wash of color to add subtle definition. It’s gorgeous! Want!
Melissa says
How do you think this would look with satin taupe over top? I’m trying to find a nice warm brown base for it as all the cream shadows I have are too cool or too light. Thanks!
