Body Hair Has Reason to Fear EOS Evolution of Smooth Shave Cream

July 27th, 2010 by Karen 116 Comments

eos evolution of smooth shave cream review

My bad luck in the crap shoot that is genetics = totally your gain. Why else would the powers that be bestow upon me a dense thicket of body hair if not to serve as a guinea pig for all of (hairy) womankind?

Peep the latest episode in the epic struggle between Karen and all forms of hair removal technology — this bottle of EOS Evolution of Smooth Pomegranate Raspberry Shave Cream.

I picked it up at Tar-ghay last week when the cute pink bottle caught my eye (it was also on sale for $2, down from the regular $5).

The Pomegranate Raspberry version is one of seven scents in the line. EOS dipped into their garden for these paraben-free bad boys, adding aloe, oat and shea butter to moisturize parched skin.

The company claims it works for wet and dry shaves, so I tried it with both. Oh, and to put the severity of my body hair situation into perspective, nimble-fingered children could probably weave rugs out of the hair that would grow on my legs if I let down my beauty guard. It’s THAT serious.

Pomegranate Raspberry’s super sweet scent was a bit of a turnoff for me at first (do you remember how Strawberry Shortcake dolls used to smell?), but the texture, which feels like a light body lotion, convinced me to stick it out.

eos evolution of smooth shave cream review

Either in or out of the shower, I’ve been getting really close, bump-free shaves with this cream, and I’m guessing the lotion brings razors in closer contact with the base of each hair than fluffy, foamy shave gels do. Lately after my shaves with EOS my skin has felt smooth, soft and soothed, and I haven’t had any nicks or shave bumps at all using the same kinds of razors I’ve used with other shave creams and gels.

For my fellow vision-impaired girls (I’m blind without my spectacles, yo!), this cream can be hard to see in the shower. The water/heat combo seems to melt it away faster than a traditional uber-foamy shave gel, so if you usually depend on your shave cream to work kinda like a shaving road map, you may have to either work fast in the shower, or momentarily turn off the water to help you see what you’re doing.

My shnozz and I may not see eye (nose?) to eye on the Pomegranate Raspberry version of EOS Evolution, but I like the results. Thankfully EOS created the product in four other fragrances (Lavender Jasmine, Island Blue, Cucumber Melon and Vanilla Bliss), along with a fragrance-free version (HOLLA!).

If you’re interested, I also spotted a three pack available over at target.com for $12. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Maybe the unscented is the way to go, LOL!

i think i’m the asian version of you, for serious. i too am blind and as for the hair sitch… let’s just say my razor has 5 blades. add to that the fact that my skin’s sensitive (the first stages of hair growth can be painful) and well, sometimes i just don’t think the hassle is worth it.

wish i could try this, but “tar-ghay” doesn’t ship to canada 🙁

I tried EOS a few months back- sooo creamy and nice on my legs, but I had the same blindness prob as you! For a slightly less melty version I really like the Skintimate shave cream, it sticks to my legs a bit better.
Also, you CAN find this in Canada! I got it at Shopper’s Drug Mart for like 5 bucks a few months back.

Thanks for the review Karen, I normally do the sensitve skin shave gels, I suffer from the bumps and nicks sometimes no matter how new or how many blades the razor has. I’d like to give this a try and see how close of shave I can get without any irritation. I’m curious about the Island Blue scent, with a name like that I automatically beach paradise 🙂

I might need this since I have a tar-ghay shopping trip coming up this weekend and almost out of shaving cream. I love pomegranate in most forms. In no way do I mean to rub this in anyone’s face, but it will literally take me a year to use up a bottle of shaving cream because I shave my legs 1-2 times a month. I’m asian too but am blessed with thin, fine hair on my legs only, other parts not so much. Do you think this would work on men too?

My only thing with it is that I use a lot of product during one application, so one bottle doesn’t last that long for me =[….though I too, am a member of the “Hairy Asian Club”, so I’m sure most of you won’t run out as fast as I did lol.

Thanks for reviewing this! I will have to try this next time I need to buy shave cream. I tried a cream from Skintimates (I think that was the brand) and it seemed to form a barrier between the razor and my skin and I didn’t get a smooth, clean shave. I’m glad to hear that is not the case with this product.

I’m blind in the shower too, so I use my hands to feel my skin and make sure everything is smooth.

Luckily I’m not too hairy, but my hair grows back fast. It’s like 5 o’clock shadow on my legs! 🙂

I am a lipbalm addict and for the longest time used it more than lipstick. My faves would be Alba, Burts Bees, Softlips and Yes to Carrots. EOS is okay, the packaging is cute and all that but I find that I need to reapply it more often. It kinda dries out super fast and I havent really felt any moisturizing effects. 🙂

Tend Skin is supposed to be pretty good for preventing ingrowns, and you can find it at most beauty supply stores.

        HiYA Karen…
Yes, I have tried waxing on my own, but it is so messy…and takes a LOT of practice….which I definitely need. I suppose I feel like I am just gonna ruin my legs and they will look awful for a while. So afraid of that…. It could be though, that I just need to use a better wax as well. I was told about this Australian wax that the professionals use, but it is so expensive. I would be better off going for electrolysis, but being overseas right now…and not understanding the language makes things so hard…. So I am not sure where ta go. Hopefully, I will be back in Vegas soon and to start. I am taking a few weeks vacation in Honolulu as well. A chance to relax on the beach hopefully…. LOL Hope you had a fabulous day…HUGGS

Yeah, it took me a while to figure out what waxing tricks worked for me. I started of with a sugar wax (which is rinsable) before moving onto hard wax.

The people are fantastic and I love to experience new cultures, although this is like my 3rd time here…LOL It is always fun though, and love to travel. As for Hawaii, it is always great to hear of new fun places ta go and all…. I have been there a few times, but never seem to experience as much as I hoped I would have, so absolutely…your ideas are always welcome….and any good nail/beauty salons that you suggest…LOL
As for the waxing, yes…..it is a tricky thing and being overseas means I have to order everything online. They don’t even give a good mani/pedi over here…or at least I haven’t found a good one yet…..so sucks for that…..I love the pampering…. The girl that does my waxing in Vegas told me only to use hard wax, cause it was much easier. It just seems ta take so much and there is only enough to use for like a few waxings… Def a lot cheaper to do it yourself though. I used nair for a short bit, but so hated the way it made my legs feel and the ingrown thing really sucked, so I stopped real quick. Waxing is great cause I can go for a week or more, but then have to wait for the hair to grow out in order to wax agian… hate seeing hairy legs..might just be me though…not sure… Anyway, hope ur day is beautiful…stay gorgeous…

I own one in Vanilla Bliss. Although I’m not too fond of the scent (there wasn’t an unscented version at the time I bought one), I like the way it works on my skin vs the foamy shave gels.

That was one of the scents I was thinking about getting. What is it about the scent that you don’t like? Is it too sugary?

I tried the vanilla and didn’t like it at all. It didn’t seem to give enough slip as I moved the razor over the skin. It felt a little like I was shaving without enough shave gel and I was going to get razor burn (I didn’t). So I doubled, tripled, and quadrupled the amount I was using and it didn’t help. I also had sight problems if I was showering without my contacts. The scent was a little heavy and sweet but thankfully didn’t linger long. I didn’t bother finishing the bottle before I went out and bought another Kiss My Face shave cream.

How is the Kiss My Face stuff? Does it have a similar lotion-y consistency?

It is a lotion but thicker. It doesn’t dissolve on contact with water like the EOS so I can see where it is. Definitely feels moisturizing and the razor glides effortlessly over your skin. I come back to it time and again. Right now I’m using the Key Lime scent but I generally use the unscented because I prefer the smell of the various body washes that keep showing up in my shower. I’m not sure how they all get there. 🙂

Hmmm, unscented sounds like it’s calling my name, but I’ll definitely have to sniff them all to be sure 😉 With dry shaves, do you still have to rinse your legs off afterwards, or can you just wipe them off and go? If it’s the latter, that would definitely save time in the morning if I forgot/was too lazy to shave the night before!

I picked this up a few months ago and also think that the smell is too sweet. I haven’t tried it dry yet, but I’m not really liking the product.

I am in love with Whish Shave Crave and thought this would be a less expensive alternative but it doesn’t come close. For anyone who is willing to spend the extra money, I would def recommend the Shave Crave by Whish. I have never had such a close and smooth shave!

Oh by the way guys, has anyone here tried using an epilator???

I have one it was a Braun one about $290Australian dollars and it was the top of the line one from this shop we have called Shaver Shop, it came with some adaptors 2 make it less painful, but i have 2 say really its not even painful, it MIGHT be 4 about 30 seconds when u start but that goes ( or u get used 2 it lol ) and u just stretch out ur skin while ur doing it like u would pulling a wax strip off!

I totally recommend an epilator 4 EVERYONE, u might get some bumps the first couple times but they go down after a couple hrs and ur legs stay smooth for atleast a couple wks 🙂 Well mine do and if i shave theyre back by the end of the day lol

If ur gonna get one its worth spending a bit more 4 the top of the range ones 🙂

I picked this up last night at Walgreens for a few bucks. Tried it, and I really like the shave I was able to get while using it. The pomegranate scent is a bit sickly sweet for me so I think I’ll go back and sniff out a few of the other scents when I use this one up. I’m holding myself back since the Walgreens is literally across the street from me. If I create a “real” reason to go I’ll come back with the entire cosmetics department… again.

I liked the pomegranate, island blue and vanilla bliss (never been a huge fan of cucumber melon!). I didn’t have a problem with the way any of those ones smelled, but I am rarely bothered by scents. I’d say the vanilla one was the least overpowering, though.
Now that I live in Australia I use this men’s shave gel that smells really minty and eucalyptus-y, I actually really like it!

i love this shave cream and the fact that it’s paraben free! so far the only scent that i can find in any of my local Target stores is the pomegranate rasberry, but i don’t mind the sweetness of it. i like most sweet scents. it does have a tendency to melt away very quick, but i usually just add a bit more. it does leave my legs feeling very smooth and i have not experienced any bumping either. i’m totally in love with this shave cream! i want to try the other scents and their lip balms too.

I hadn’t heard about eos. I just bought it because of the pretty pink bottle and it was cheaper than all the other shave creams on the shelf. I’m glad i got it. It smells delicious, and i dont have to put my nose to the bottle to smell it. And its not too thick.

I got this a while back because I vastly prefer lotion shaving creams to the foam, and I got a 2-pack on sale for $4! The only two things I don’t like is that the raspberry scent is a little cloying, and the pump on the bottle stops dispensing even when there is still quite a bit of product left in it. It isn’t so convenient to have to stop and shake the bottle up, then open it up and dump it in my hand instead of just using the pump! I will have to see if any of the other scents appeal to me. I love how smooth and soft my legs are, and the cream irritates my super sensitive skin a lot less than other products.

I am a HUGE EOS fan. Love the shave cream and lip balms. I use the balm at night before bed along with ELF’s balm and I have very kissable lips. No one to kiss them but best to always be prepared. Try the balms Karen. For only $3.50 they are worth a shot. 🙂 Shave cream is just amazing and love it. Won’t use anything else now. Smooth shave every time. 🙂

I tried this in the lavander and jasmine scent, which is nice, very light and pretty smelling. Gotta say, I think this is my new favorite shave cream. My nicks and cuts were noticeably fewer, and I feel so much smoother. I cant find it at my Target up here (I live in the Midwest), but it is at Walgreens!
