NARS The Multiple Duo and The Multiple Bronzer

December 1st, 2008 by Karen 17 Comments

The Multiple Duo in Portofino/Malibu

When Nars Cosmetics decided they wanted to release some new highlighting and contouring products, where did look for inspiration?

Answer: they looked to one of their most popular products ever, The Multiple, a beauty cult favorite.

I’d been looking forward to trying the new oil-free, cream-to-powder The Multiple Duo ($45) in Portofino/Malibu and The Multiple Bronzer ($37) in Malaysia since they debuted last month, but because I’d never used any of the original The Multiple products, I had no clue how and where to apply ’em!

Thank goodness for Nars National Trainer Janice Daoud. She was nice enough to offer a few of her favorite application tips and tricks

“Whether you’re a minimalist on the go or a makeup diva,” says Janice, “these two products are both beautiful on the skin and easy to use.”

The Multiple Duo ($45)

The Multiple Duo combines two complementary Nars The Multiple Shades in a single compact. The four limited-edition duos include:

  • Copacabana/St. Barts: Glistening pearl/taupe shimmer
  • Maldives/Riviera: Pink champagne with shimmer/pink
  • Portofino/Malibu: Shimmering coral/pinkish brown
  • Maui/Palm Beach: Dusty rose/rich bronze

The Multiple Duo Application Tips

  • Use your fingers (you’ll get better results than a brush) to apply and blend The Multiple Duo shades.
  • Use The Multiple shades to shade and define your cheeks. “To contour,” says Janice, “apply below the cheekbones and blend into the skin.”
  • For a glowy look, “highlight the complexion along the cheekbones, and lightly down the bridge of the nose for radiance.”
  • To really highlight the cheekbones and get that gorgeous glow, Janice recommends the Copacabana/St. Barts duo.

The Multiple Bronzer ($37)

The Multiple Bronzer in Malaysia

A matte bronzing stick packed with antioxidants, The Multiple Bronzer ($37) bestows a warm, sun-kissed glow (for face and body) and comes in three shades:

  • Tuomota: For light to medium complexions with golden yellow undertones
  • Malaysia: For medium to dark complexions with red undertones; great for tanned skin
  • Rapa Nui: For dark complexions with red undertones

The Multiple Bronzer is a hybrid of two popular Nars products, Bronzing Powder and The Multiple, but isn’t shimmery or dewy. It’s ideal for creating the appearance of tanned skin that doesn’t look overly matte.

Malaysia…

Work that Bronzer, Ladies (and Gents)!

  • For applying and blending The Multiple Bronzer, Janice again suggests using your fingers.
  • New to bronzer? Don’t be scurred. The Multiple Bronzer is practically goof-proof. “Easy blendability makes for mistake-proof application.”
  • The Multiple Bronzer works on both face and body.
  • Being shimmerless, these are also great for men.

Faking the Glow, One Day at a Time

Both The Multiple Duo and The Multiple Bronzer are great ways to fake that tropical glow all winter long.

Night Fever!

Did you catch the Venus/Jupiter conjunction last night? Both planets were visible right next to the moon. So cool. Both will also be visible tonight, with Venus being brighter than Jupiter, so don’t forget to keep looking up! 🙂

A Venus/Jupiter conjunction doesn’t happen very often, so this is a rare treat. It’s as if the planets cross the same line of longitude in the sky and — for a brief time — beam north and south of one another on the sky’s dome. This conjunction of the two brightest planets won’t happen again until March of 2012! During this particular Venus and Jupiter conjunction, both brilliant worlds appear just 2 degrees apart. That’s about the width of your finger at an arm’s length away.

Cool, huh?

Hope you’re having a fab Monday!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Did you eat the conch? I’ve never went to the southernmost point of the U.S but I hope I’ll get a chance to do so. Thank you for the astrological tip, I’ll check the sky tonight.

I checked these duos out in Sephora last week. They were really gorgeous. They also had an Orgasm / South Beach duo, and although Orgasm is so popular, I liked South Beach way better!

Also I don’t own any NARS blushes, but Sertao was a beautiful gold that caught my eye. I’m thinking it would look really good over any blush for an added dimension. You should see that one too. These swatches are so nice, I can’t wait for you to do a look on them. I’m especially curious about the bronzer. 🙂

    Hi Dao,

You’re welcome! I hope the skies are clear so you can see the planets.

I had one conch related dish while in Key West — fried conch fritters! I liked the batter and the dipping sauce… but the conch meat wasn’t my favorite. It’s very chewy and reminded me of my least favorite seafood, squid (BLECH).

    Hi Arianne,

I love the Portofino/Malibu so much (I’m wearing it right now, yay) that I think I might have to pick up a few more duos. 🙂 When I go to the counter I will check out Sertao… I have a major weakness for gold blushes so I can’t wait!

What other Nars products do you like? My favorites are Dolce Vita lipstick and Amour blush.

Whaddya know! I’ve actually been watching the progress of the Venus/Jupiter conjunction without even realizing it–I’ve been asking my dad what those two “bright stars/planets” were for the past two weeks, because I had never seen a pattern like that in the sky before. Last night they had lined up at an almost perfect 45 degree angle to the crescent of the moon; it was bizarrely beautiful. But now I know, which is reputedly half the battle. Thanks for the info, Karen!

Wish I could afford NARS, but they’re always juuust out of what I can afford. Portofino looks really gorgeous against your skin.

Hi Karen! I’ve just bought my first Nars product. A lipstick called Red Lizard. Now I really want to get a blush. I’m waiting for Orgasm, which I ordered off the internet. Now I think I might get one of the multiples! I love blush so these are very tempting! Thanks for the review, it really helps me cause I can only see these things online as Nars isn’t sold here in Taiwan.Hope you’re having a great day!

NARS products that I like? The blushes! I would gladly drop cash for several of them at a time, but I’m on a student budget. Doesn’t stop me from buying Sertao as a present for myself though. 🙂 I’ve been looking all over for a shimmerless peach/pink, and I think I’ll give Amour a go.

You know what this means though. I go to Sephora, another thing catches my eye, then it’s all downhill from there. My Sephora wishlist is getting a little long. 😛

Oh haha viva la Malaysia! 😛 I think I saw the planets too earlier when I was outside. So bright.

I want to get more Nars stuff but the prices keep pushing me back. 🙁

Hiya Karen! long time, no post for me….but I’ve been reading. 🙂

I’ve never tried a multiple, and I’ve also been wanting a plummy cream or gel blush to layer under my powders for winter, to punch them up a bit. the malibu color you swatched looks promising, but wowzers, they are pricey!

now, Key West! I loved the hemmingway cats-we haven’t decided what we are going to do there yet, but I know for sure we are doing a photo op at the southern most point. Was the island very small? We are thining of just getting off the boat and walking around….

And finally, your makeup at your friend’s wedding was PERFECT! you looked so pretty, and it photographed beautifully as well. Not sure if I missed it or not, but you MUST tell us all the shades you ended up using!!!
