Nars Multiple Duo in Orgasm/South Beach: With a Name Like That, It Has To Be Good

March 30th, 2009 by Karen 30 Comments

Heya! I just got back from journalism class, and, uh … needless to say it was interesting. The topic of the day was interviewing, and during the lecture one of the students revealed that she’d once been interviewed for a story about her membership in a “meditation cult.”

Hmm…

After my classmate’s confession, my mind started drifting to thoughts of other cults — makeup cults — specifically, the Cult of Nars Orgasm Blush!

It’s a shimmery, peachy pink blush famous in the makeup world for the BOOM-CHIKA-WAH-WAH! glow it gives to cheeks.

nars-super-orgasm-blush-1

I’ve tried both Nars Orgasm and its uber-glittery cousin, Super Orgasm, and truth be told neither one really rocked my boat. I thought Orgasm was too light, and Super Orgasm had too much glitter.

But when I spied the cream version of the blush in the Nars Multiple Duo in Orgasm/South Beach ($45), I was determined to give the shade another try.

This Multiple Duo is one of five and comes with the shimmery, peachy pink Orgasm and South Beach, its shimmery coral partner in crime (more on South Beach in a few). At $45, it’s definitely on the expensive side, but the pans aren’t small, and purchased individually they’d cost $37 each.

Swatches of Orgasm, South Beach

On my skin, the cream cousin of Orgasm looks way different than the powder version does. It applies with much more intense color, and I can actually see it on my skin!

I love the sun-kissed, natural flush my cheeks have when I wear it. I gotta say it looks like the flush I get right after I … hey, now, get your mind out of the gutter, dirty birdy. I was going to say, “the exact same flush I get after a run or a date with the stair stepper machine.” 😉

Orgasm isn’t the only star in the duo. Nars packed shimmery coral South Beach with golden micro-glitter, and just like Orgasm it delivers a natural flush.

I think South Beach looks lovely either by itself or layered beneath coral powder blushes like Benefit Coralista, Nars Torrid, Chanel In Love or Dior Coral Riviera.

Nars the Multiple Duo in Orgasm/South Beach

Price: $45
Use: For a natural, shimmery peachy pink or coral flush to cheeks
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

It costs a pretty penny, but I have a feeling most girls will be able to wear it with a variety of looks throughout spring and into summer. That kinda makes the price a little easier to swallow.

The $37 single cream version of Orgasm I mentioned a second ago comes in a stick called Orgasm The Multiple, LOL!

Just another manic Monday

Whew! Mondays are usually my busy days, and this one was true to form. I’m glad it’s almost over. Hopefully I can make it to dance class tonight, and hopefully tonight’s routine doesn’t involve break dancing. I’m so not in the mood to watch my belly jiggle from all angles.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Maybe it’s just not loading well on my monitor, but South Beach looks like golden-beige rather than a coral.

Great review! I may try this out, but I am a little afraid of cream blushes. I’m very light-skinned and they tend to be too intense to wear without looking clownish.

      Hi Michaela,

Thanks! How do you usually apply your cream blushes? Do you use fingers or a brush?

Karen, I bought this duo just because of you. I’m a simple makeup girl who thought it would add some spark to my dull life. I haven’t had a lot of time to play around with it so I’m still not sure how I like it but I thought it would be a great thing to add to my makeup bag for summer, especially with tan skin. I’ll admit I bought mine on e-bay and got a heck of a deal, a great tip for anyone watching their dollars these days. Plus I have no idea where I can find Nars in a store around me – I live in the midwest in the middle of nowhere and a lot of my makeup purchases happen to be online because of that. But because of this blog I’m going to use it tomorrow and I’ll let you know how it goes. As always, thanks for the info!

      Hi Katrina,

You’re welcome! I hope that the colors work out for you. You’re so right about both the shades being perfect for summertime skin. Please let me know what you think about it after you’ve tried it. 🙂 Do you have any other peachy blushes in your stash? I’m thinking either color would look fab layered beneath a peach or coral powder blush!

      Happy Tuesday!

My concern would be the cream getting on the case. Its bad enough with the powder blush – oh and the rubberized case melted on me. I guess Nars doesn’t quite like the tropics 🙂

Holy wow! Did you have the case in a car or something? It must get really hot where you live!

      Hi BJ!

Sometimes my skin gets super oily, too! One thing I do sometimes is I apply the cream blush on top of foundation and powder. I find this gives it a little more “stick.”

      Hi Synaesthesia,

Benefit Coralista is one of my fave blushes this season. It smells really good (!) and is super easy to apply and blend. I hope you get it. 🙂

Looks gorgeous. I think I could pull it off too with my cream complexion…
Hope you did make it to class. I probably won’t make it to mine tonight though as I have lots of preparation work to do for tomorrow (I need to teach from 8.20 am till 15.00)

I’m with you on the powder version of Orgasm. I always found it too frosty. But the cream is looking waaaaay better! (Though I’m in love with Coralista right now so I don’t know if I even want to cheat.)

      Hi Stef,

OH! Coralista is easy to fall in love with! When I first got my box I was rocking that 24/7. 🙂

Next time you’re at Sephora you should give this a swatch. You never know… it could be true blush love!

When I worked for Sephora we were told that around the world one of those blushes sells every 8 minutes. I was so amazed. On top of that, how many blushes do you know are designed to give you the “just been sexed up” look?

    Good post!

Hi Karen! I have the Orgasm Multiple single — love it! Because it’s in a stick, you can just swipe it on your cheeks and go, which is great when you’re heading out from work or something. But I do have another Multiple compact (Portofino/Malibu), and I find myself reaching for it all the time!

Have you tried using them as cream eyeshadows?

    Hey Karen

Nope, my blushes were kept in a cool dark drawer in my bedroom. Some other newer ones are slowly going over to the dark side too 🙁

What brush do you use or recommend for the Orgasm/South Beach multiples duo? I don’t like to touch products with my fingers. Thanks!
