Cat Eyes With a Twist, and an Open Letter to Jeremy Renner

November 6th, 2012 by Karen 26 Comments

cat eyes with a twist 1

Dear Jeremy Renner,

It’s been a while…

Okay, we’ve never actually communicated, but I quite enjoy writing you these letters and will continue to do so because 1) I have a tendency to babble, and 2) you’re so very, very hot.

Jeremy, I have a proposition for you.

Do you remember the Kelly Clarkson concert I mentioned going to last Saturday?

Of course you do. Well, since the show, I’ve been listening to a lot of Kelly’s music, and I’ve grown particularly fond of Don’t Rush, her new country duet with Vince Gill.

Here’s my idea: you, me, a karaoke bar and that song.

Awesomeness, right? You could gaze adoringly into my eyes as we sing the chorus (please!), but I should warn you — don’t be distracted by my cool cat eyeliner, with its extra little twist.

Yeah, it’s a new look I’ve been rocking all day long.

It’s like a regular cat eye, except with an extra, second wing running parallel to the main flick.

I saw it on the artwork for Kelly’s single, Already Gone, and thought, “Haaay! How cool is that?!”

And it wasn’t even that hard to do. I started with a regular cat eye using my favorite gel liner, MAC Blacktrack, and my go-to Sonia Kashuk Bent Liner Brush. Then, when I finished with the cat eye, I drew a tiny extra flick on each eye.

That’s it! Easy as pie.

Brows: Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil; Eyes: Shimmery peachy eyeshadow and black eyeshadow from the new Bobbi Brown Bellini Lip & Palette, LORAC Pro Mascara; Cheeks: MAC Easy Manner Blush; Lips: Hourglass Vintage Lipstick topped with a shimmery gloss from Bobbi’s Bellini Palette

Being a former makeup artist, you might be wondering why I opted to use Blacktrack instead of a liquid liner like LORAC Front of the Line Pro.

Well, J. Renn, that’s an excellent question. 🙂

I just find that gel liners are generally thicker and easier to control, but that’s me. With your background and steady, confident hands, you could probably use a liquid liner and get extra sharp, crisp lines.

Next time I try this, I think I might layer a liquid liner on top of Blacktrack, just for kicks.

Oh, and thank you for noticing the angle I used for the flicks. Yes, I purposefully drew them almost horizontally, as opposed to angling them up toward the ends of my brows. I did it because I felt like it gave the appearance of more elongated, feline eyes, mrrrrow!

Well, Jeremy, it’s been great talking to you again. Keep doing those push-ups, and feel free to stop by shirtless anytime. 😉

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I know, right? His family lives within driving distance of me! Not gonna lie: it’s the only time I’ve ever wanted to go to Modesto.

What a neat eyeliner look! No matter how much I practice, I just can’t seem to master cat eye or winged eyeliner… 🙁

      Hi Tiffany,

Here’s the easiest way I know how to do winged liner:

Your skin is looking radiant! Are you still using the NARS tinted moisturizer?

Thanks, Neha. For these pics I’m wearing a combination of different things — mostly MAC Face and Body Foundation, with a little bit of Illamasqua Skin Base around my mouth and chin where I need extra coverage. Here are links to both product reviews in case you’re interested.

        Dear Karen,

could you please advice which foundation you would recommend as “THE BEST”: MAC Face and Body or Illamasqua Skin Base? I have dry to oily/combination skin that tends to impurities/acne. I’ld love to have a glowy finish but with nearly full coverage.

I would very appreciate your recommendation! Currently I use MAC Studio Sculpt in NC20 and I like the texture a lot but is runnning out shortly.

Thank you very much and kind regards from Germany.

      Hi Mimi,

It helps to draw in the flicks first. I always do that with an angled brush and a black powder shadow.

Are you a cat liner kinda girl, too?

And this is why I love you. You write the open letters I’m thinking, and you do it in a PG version. HAHA! Remember your friends when you get some video of that karaoke event (which should take place on men’s shirtless night).

Oh, and the makeup! It’s a cool twist, and your cat eyes always look fab. 🙂
