A 60-Second Review: Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick in Vintage

November 1st, 2012 by Karen 18 Comments

Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick in Vintage
Wearing the new Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick in Vintage

Haven’t we all rutted around in our makeup bags from time to time and wished for that one special lipstick? That one lipstick both professional enough to wear to the office (“Hey, new girl, have you filled out those TPS reports?”), and dynamic enough to dazzle a first date? A lipstick so resourceful, so transcendent, that it possessed the power to turn you into a one-lipstick girl?

If there ever were such a shade, it would be Vintage. The new $30 Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick in Vintage.

One of four new winter neutrals in the long-wearing Femme Rouge Velvet Cream Lipstick line, creamy, rosy pink Vintage feels delightfully indulgent for such a lightweight lippie, like adding full-fat cream to your morning coffee (whatevs, you’ll just run it off later!). 🙂

Loaded with Vitamin E and antioxidants to keep lips in tip-top shape, Vintage is surprisingly long-wearing and water resistant, lasting on my lips from 4-5 hours.

I think it’s a great natural shade for casual date nights — just add liner and a cream blush — and for dressier looks, too.

Mmm, I’m picturing it with chocolaty smokey eyes…

But that could be the Halloween candy talking. 🙂

PRICE: $30 for one lipstick bullet with a refillable case, and $24 per refill
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Barneys stores, Space NK, Bergdorf Goodman, Sephora and Sephora.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (if it were $20, I’d give it an A+)

Hello, November!

Oh, hai! It’s officially the holiday season.

Is it just me, or does it seem like time starts to speed up around this time of year? I feel like I take a deep breath, exhale and everyone’s cheering, “Happy Holidays!” Then I blink and it’s 2013.

El Hub and I have been trying to get our dining room in order in time to host Thanksgiving for our families, but I dunno… It’s still possible. Right now we’re working on painting the room. After that we’ll get some furniture (like a table and a couple chairs would be nice, haha).

Tabs is keeping his paws crossed, because you know him — he’s a ho for turkey and extra attention. 🙂

Have you done any planning for the holidays yet? Holla if you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love, love that color! But that price tag makes me want to think twice, lol.

      Hi Aelyn,

Hourglass is quite expensive, I know, but from what I’ve tried, the line generally lives up to the price tag. If you ever need any recs let me know! I’ve tried and fallen in love with many of their products.

      Hi Sonya,

The line is one of my current faves at Sephora. You should check out their eyeshadow duos and Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipsticks. Both are great!

I’m usually a gloss girl, but these lipsticks are pretty!

I can’t believe it’s November, but I don’t mind b/c Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. We go over to my sister-in-law’s house and eat and hang out all day.

I can relate to the dining room woes. Ours has turned into a storage area for food and our DVD shelves. We ended up putting our elliptical in there also so I’ve given up on ever using it as a “real” room.

P.S. I’m also looking forward to Breaking Dawn Part 2 coming out this month. 🙂

      Hi Ruchita,

I love Thanksgiving, too. Really, any holiday that gives me an excuse to sit around and eat carbs and dessert is okay by me. 🙂 Will you be cooking anything for the meal at your sister-in-law’s house? If we end up going to my parents, chances are I’ll be in charge of the mashed potatoes.

I kind of love that your elliptical is in your dining room! 😀

I’m in charge of mashed potatoes too! My husband and I split the work and do around 15-20 lbs of potatoes. I’ll be making some desserts and a birthday cake for my husband b/c Thanksgiving Day is also his 40th birthday. 🙂

Think I need to try at least one Hourglass lipstick when I get to order that brow pencil 🙂

Awww TABS!!! Don’t you LOVE it when cats yawn (though what can possibly be so tiring about chilling all day?)? I’m going to a girlfriend’s for Thanksgiving, so it won’t be a lot of work 🙂 I hope there will be pumpkin pie!

HAHA! I love Tabs’ caroling pic – he’s really belting it out! 🙂

Congrats on the painting – I can’t wait to see how it looks! Yes, we host all the holiday dinners. It was easier than dragging the kids around when they were born, and it just stuck. I actually enjoy it. It’s fun to plan the meals and cook everything. I leave the cleaning to the Hubs, though. hee hee!

I really need to try an Hourglass lipstick that Icon looks like a beautiful red shade. Your hair looks so pretty in this post. It’s growing so long and it looks healthy! Just beautiful.

That looks great, but I can’t justify that kind of money on a lipstick. Let me know if you can think of a similar shade that’s much cheaper 🙂

Wow that is pretty lipstick. I’ll have to try it. We always host Thanksgiving and I love doing it. The best part is afterward I always to go my shift at the humane society and serve Thanksgiving dinner to all the animals there.

Haven’t tried Hourglass, but that is a pretty color. I hosted Thanksgiving last year at my fiance’s house, I was just starting to move in at that point. This year I get to work on Thanksgiving, so no hosting or going anywhere for me. We are having a feast of our own at work, so I’m with my work family!

If it makes you feel any better, our house is constantly in re-organizing and re-modeling shape. Our basement is now a functional basement with a treadmill and weight bench, and places for the hunting stuff. Our dining room is currently an empty space, as we have an extended kitchen from a house extension (added when built), so we turned the dining room table that the fiance didn’t like into a breakfast table in that space. I still have parts of my life in boxes, and I probably won’t unpack until I move the rest of my furniture in.

Hm…Vintage is quite a different shade than it looks in the promo pic–I was expecting a rosewood-y color but instead its a warm, bright pink. Still pretty though–but I better go to a Sephora and swatch them for myself before I make any online purchases! I’m eyeing Fawn and Peace but I want to make sure they’re the right shade I am imagining them to be…

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
