Liquid Liner Made Easy with Lorac Front of the Line Pro

August 25th, 2009 by Karen 48 Comments

Because cat eyes aren’t just for kittehs

lorac-front-of-the-liner-pro-liner-review-eye

In the 15-year battle of Karen versus liquid eyeliner, I’ve never been able to prevail.

This fall victory is finally mine, *mwwwahahahaaa*!

Gone are the days of uneven, messy, Shakes the Clown lines, and I owe it all to the bad-assness that is Lorac’s Front of the Line Pro ($22).

Drawing crisp, dark, dramatic lines is easy-peasy with this liquid pen liner.

The genius lies in Lorac’s firm felt tip pen. It glides smoothly against skin, depositing sharp lines with precision — fantastic for cat eyeliner looks.

lorac-red-carpet-reveal-collection3

And the staying power? To die for. Front of the Line Pro lingers on lids longer than the Birthday Sex techno remix (aka the longest song EVER).

Just for fun the other day I swatched some on my hand, and it stayed for two days through multiple hand washings *and* a shower.

Watch out, Tabs!

Front of the Line Pro is the real deal, homies. If you love the cat eye look but haven’t been able to perfect it, you might want to give it a whirl. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Howzit?

Chicas, I feel like this morning’s brow incident shot me into a weird alternate universe, but I think I’m finally falling back down to earth. How have things been for you on this otherwise lovely Tuesday? Any epiphanies or Elvis sightings to report? 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

You look absolutely amazing Karen! Today was an OK day for me. I got my mac order! I got the photo realism quad, creme de miel shadow, the 3 technakohls (the blue, green and orange from makeup arts), Girl About Town (finally got it after wanting it forever) and the 252 large shader blush. I’m in love with it all.

Sad to report, a bus rolling by me swept all this debris into my eyes and they are killing me. I’ve taken drops and pills. I think I may need a doc. Oh, well the makeup makes up for it. LOL I’m going to give this liner a try, though.

      Hi Shontay,

Oh no! Are your eyes better? I will cross my fingers and hope that you didn’t have to go to the doctor.

Your haul is drool worthy, BTW. You gotta let me know how you work that orange liner! I still haven’t figured it out.

I hope you love the 252! It’s one of my stapes — so great for quick color all over the lid.

I meant shader brush not blush. Lets chalk this up to me having to squint while I type.

Which liquid liners have you tried? My last attempt with MAC Liquidlast was a total disaster!

You shot a close-up of the left eye? Wow, brave. Really nice work penciling your unfortunate loss. Do they make hallmark cards for that? “My condolencses on the loss…of 1/8 of your eyebrow”.

My epiphany was the old chestnut: quality, not quantity. Take on fewer projects, but do those exceedingly well.

Honestly, they should. I think it happens more often than not. 😉

Oh, and good call on focusing on quality, not quantity. I subscribe to that tidbit myself.

would the “staying power” of this liquid liner comparable to mac’s liquidlast liner? i’m not too fond of it because it was really hard to remove. tried removing it using a eye makeup remover and not very much luck. eventually i ended up with a swollen, red eye lids.

      Hi Seattle,

      Yup, it’s similar.

Hmm, what kind of eye makeup remover did you use? For long wearing products oil-based removers take stuff on in a flash. Have you tried Lancome Bi-Facil?

Yay! Thanks for this rec Karen! I’ve been scurrred to get liquid liners myself but seeing this on you makes me want to try it atleast once. And lol about Birthday Sex remix being the longest song ever. I swear I hear that song, switch to another station, listen to commercials, turn it back to the station and that frigg song is still playing.

      Hi Ms. B,

I was terrified to try this one because of my past experience with liquid liners. Really, though — this one really makes it *super* easy.

And isn’t that the truth about that song being on 24/7? GAAAH!

Karen, I have kinda crepey eyelids, but I love the look that liquid liner can give. I tried a UD Liquid Liner, but it spread into the little lines and totally defeated the purpose of using a liquid liner. Do you have any recommendations? My new idea is to use a primer first, and then try the liner again . . . but I’m doubtful to how it will work.

      Hi Hyzenthlay,

I totally know what you mean about the liner spreading. Seriously, try this one. It doesn’t do that at all!

Also, using primer beforehand would certainly help. Do you have a good one on hand?

I ordered the UD Primer Set from Sephora on Sunday night, and am *anxiously* awaiting it. It’s been in the warehouse for two days, *le sigh*. I have the UD Primer in Sin, but I didn’t try it with the liner I had before because the colors didn’t go (I was using Radium, the bright blue color). I’ll add this one to my next Sephora wish list, but I did order the UD liner in Smog, since it was $8, and that’s how much liners in the drugstore cost! I figured that it’ll be good for practice 🙂

      Hi Hyzenthlay,

Heya! I can’t wait for your primer set to come in. Primers open up a whole new world!

How does Sin show up on your skin? On me it’s like a neutral, and I wear it with bright blues all the time. Have you tried it yet with Radium? It might work, ya never know. 🙂

You know, I should have tried it. Sin shows up as a very slightly pinky shimmer. I returned Radium to Sephora, so I can’t try it. But I bet you’re right, Sin is neutral enough that I could have used them together . . . oh well! If I can get Smog to work without spreading into those stupid little crepey lines, I’ll probably go back and get Radium again. And I’ll get this one and give it a try too.

Karen, how does this liner fare in the black intensity department? I find that most pen liners don’t give a true black color and it is a pain to go over the line multiple times.

      Hi Michelle,

Oh, I do that all the time too. I just discovered a great trick to get those edges really sharp — soak a wedge makeup sponge with eye makeup remover and run it along the edge of your liner. It cleans up mistakes and gets those lines looking really crisp.

I have the Urban Decay Liquid Liner, and while the color [Perversion, described as an ink black] is amazing and has great staying power, it’s somewhat difficult and time consuming to have to paint it on with the brush applicator. Especially because I’ll keep working at it until I feel that the lines are just right…
So, I’ve decided that I need to buy this.

How would you compare this liner to the Bobbi Brown gel liners? I have finally mastered (somewhat) using those and getting a nice even line and I do love how well those hold up on my oily eyelids.

I’m *terrible* at using liquid liner, but I love how it looks. I got this in a set with the Behind the Scenes primer (which is what I really wanted to try) and this ended up being my favorite item out of the set. It’s SO easy to use, you really get fast flawless application. It’s inky black and lasts all day. It doesn’t fade or flake on me which is good because I do wear contacts and have sensitive eyes. This stuff is amazing.
