The official promo pics and product list are busting down our doors, my fellow wonder women. The limited edition MAC Wonder Woman Collection is still en route (ETA February 10, 2011 in North American; internationally in March), but we just received an emergency makeup cable from the super-heroine’s invisible jet. It reads, “Start the mission without me, ladies! I’ll be there as soon as I fend off the forces of anti-fabulousness that are attacking my jet!”
Since some of the upcoming products in the collection are repromoted items (like Lipstick in Russian Red, Glitter in Reflects Pearl and Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack), I thought we could take an early look at a few of them today.
MAC Wonder Woman: More Than Makeup
The 33-piece themed collection for eyes, face and nails comes with colorful limited edition comic book packaging. In addition to makeup, it contains seriously snazzy accessories like makeup bags, brush bags and even a MAC Wonder Woman T.
Now, because time (and Wonder Woman) waits for no gal, let’s get on with the show. 🙂
From the left: Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack, Glitter in Reflects Pearl and Lipstick in Russian Red
When we see these in the collection, they’ll be all decked out in limited edition red, yellow and blue packaging, but I expect the colors themselves to be the same.
MAC Russian Red Lipstick
One of my favorite old schoolers, this matte bluish red has a vintage ’40s pinup feel that looks hotter than hot partnered with black cat eye liner. I’ve been more than a little obsessed with this color ever since I found out that my other favorite wonder woman, Madonna, wore it on her Blonde Ambition Tour.
I used to wear this color a LOT (I’m a big Madge fan), and have figured out a few ways to get the most out of this impressive matte.
Because matte lipsticks tend to be so thick, they can pinpoint imperfections on the lips, clinging to dry flakes and settling into cracks — it’s something my oh-so-eloquent eighth grade self would have called, “hella gross.”
That’s why I do a lot of prep work whenever I plan to wear Russian Red (or any matte lipstick). The night before, I’ll exfoliating my lips with an old toothbrush to remove any flakes. I like this homemade sugar scrub and Lush Sugar Plum Fairy ($5).
Then, right before bed, I’ll apply a thick layer of moisturizing lip balm and leave it on overnight. I really like Philosophy’s $10 Kiss Me Gloss.
The next morning, after washing my face, I’ll apply another layer of lip balm and let it soak in while I do my eye, cheek and face makeup, saving the lips for last.
Immediately before applying my lipstick, I’ll blot any excess balm away with a tissue or by kissing the back of my hand (LOL!), and then with a precise lip brush like the MAC 316 ($19.50), I’ll do the deed.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+
MAC Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack
I REALLY wish I could get MAC Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack to work for me because it’s one of the longest wearing liners I’ve ever tried. I swear, when I apply this rich, black liquid liner early in the morning, I can sweat like a pig all day long in the summer while I rub at my eyes like a fiend, and it’s still hanging tough at dinner. Amazing.
But (there’s always a but), the stiff pen doesn’t like my butterfingers. I have a hard time scooting the firm, almost rigid tip along my lash lines and find liners with flexible felt tips, like LORAC’s Front of the Line Pro ($22), easier to control.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B-
MAC Glitter in Reflects Pearl
It’s only mission in life: FUN! This multipurpose white glitter contains just a bit of pearly sheen. I like it, but, truthfully, I don’t reach for it often. I think it’s a tad too disco for my old @ss. But whenever I do feel like sparkling (it happens), I’ll tap some onto the tops of my cheekbones with a MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush ($29).

Swatches from the left with a flash: Lipstick in Russian Red, Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapid Black and Glitter in Reflects Pearl
MAC Lipstick in Russian Red
That’s Russian Red on my lips, Rapidblack liner and MAC Dazzle Lash Mascara on my eyes, and Reflects Pearl and MAC Highland Honey Blush (from A Tartan Tale) on my cheeks.
Wait — we just got a dispatch from Greenland Station. Wonder Woman just destroyed the last of the anti-fabulous fiends that were attacking her jet, so she’s back on course, HUZZAH! 🙂 Stay tuned for swatches and more coverage of the collection as we get closer to the release.

Vickie says
Russian Red looks so freakishly hot on you, it’s not funny. I need to get a lip brush, because it doesn’t look that smooth and wonderful on me!
Vixen says
Grr I LOVE your hair! How how how. Life is so unfair sometimes.
candace grubbs says
i found out about this collection last night! i cant wait to get russian red i just ordered ruby woo last night before i found out! i would also pick shapeshifter for my 2nd power!
ki says
Invisibility would be THE power I would pick. 😀
I’m liking russian red, although I wonder if I would ever carry it off!
Tiffany says
Russian red is my go-to red! Also there are rumors that maybe the lipglasses are larger, hence the huge price increase? I’m not thrilled about the MSF price either 🙁
Brian McD says
I think the MSF’s are supposed to be oversized as well!
Nazia says
You look lovely! I couldn’t choose only 2 superpowers – I’m greedy!
Olga says
Everybody raves about russian red. I’m russian and have no red lipstick, I think I need to check it out. 😀
Stef says
Lady, you look a bit wonder woman-y in these pics! Did you fly away in your invisible jet after this photo shoot?
Amber says
I’d settle for regular agility. 😉
I have been thinking about trying Russian Red!
Taffy says
I’m aiming for both the nail polishes and Heroine maybe Russian Red. I’ve got enough Wonder Woman t-shirts so I think I’ll skip that.
Nina says
i kinda want some things but … i also have other big makeup purchases in the pipeline …
maybe marquise’d and russian red…. 😀
Jessica says
So excited that they’re re-promoting Marquise d’!!!
Makeup Morsels says
Russian Red looks great on you! I’m still eyeing those colored mascaras, I hope they’re nice and bright on the lashes.
Agnes says
i put myself on a spending ban … or at least im trying to! but these pictures are making me want 🙁 especially the blushes! >< what to do karen, what to do! 🙁
Evelyn says
You look just like Wonder Woman! You need a nice golden tiara for your hair. lol So many nice things but the one thing I must buy is Athena’s Kiss, because of course, Athena is my middle name.
amy says
I can’t wait to try out the colour mascaras.
Stacey F. says
Karen, Russian Red looks sooo lovely on you!
Solangel says
Russian red is da bomb <33 When I feel like downplaying everything else, it's a major staple on my vanity 😀
Emma says
Love the look of the Russian Red on you, Karen. Is your skintone warm or cool? It’s hard to tell from photos? I really want a red but I’m so pale and cool toned it’s almost impossible. I bought NYC Ruby but it’s not a red at all, more of a deep glittery pink. I’m sort of disappointed but it’s only $0.98 so it’s not that big a deal.
Rachael says
I’m a pale, cool toned redhead and when I want to wear a matte red, I wear Red Velvet (#345) from Revlon Colorstay
Emma says
Thanks Rachael 🙂
Paintthetownscarlet.wordpress.com says
Wow – the make-up even makes you look like Wonder Woman! Love the Russian Red, really complements your skin tone.
Rachael says
I’d kill for the powers of Jean Gray/Phoenix; telekinesis, telepathy, mental stuns, and of course the Phoenix force. Or the power to have perfectly curls without doing anything to them.
I have yet to master a liquid liner, that pen might make it super easy. Plus I’m just a sucker for a comic book girl!
Music_Is_Freedom says
Loving the look of Wonder Woman lipglass–so far that’s the only thing on my list!
As for superpowers…super intelligence and super agility (which semi-includes strength to do all that crazy acrobatic stuff).
Tiffany C. says
i read somewhere that the prices were raised on some of the items because they were supersized like the glosses, msf’s, e/s quads, and peultimate.
The girl in the yellow shoes says
Wow looks AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing!
Dea says
The lipglosses are oversized as seen on youtube. 🙂
Ronja says
i want to be able get what i like 🙂 like ” i love that lipstick (Puff !) and its in my purse too 🙂
Elana says
Wonder Woman lipglass looks like the iconic product from this collection. Total embodiment of the fantasy mythlogy (sic)embedded in so many women.
Amber says
Amazon Princess reminds me of Band of Roses.
DanielleO says
I’d want the ability to clone myself, a la Multiplicity.
Ranyah says
mighty aphrodite looking mighty hot to me! 🙂
Brooke says
I think MAC is genius when it comes to both their products and promotion. Who doesn’t have an inner WONDER WOMAN? Come’on we’re all gonna want that makeup, right now!
Kim says
I’m definitely excited about this collection but it’s completely driven by the theme rather than the makeup. 🙂 That Russian Red is definitely your friend, btw. There’s no way on earth I could pull off red lipstick unless it was for Halloween!
PS I chose Flight and Invisibility since I’m already Einstein smart (kidding). I was glad you didn’t have mind-reading as an option though. That would have been a toughie. It would be useful to know what people were really thinking, if you could turn it on and off, of course!
Danielle N says
Your hair is looking great in these pics!!
Jennie R. says
So far you’re the only blog that I’ve seen with the Valiant quad photo.
Tania says
Karen,
You look gorgeous (as always)! I have NEVER wanted a whole collection before. I seriously want EVERYTHING!!! Uggh!!!
Michele DiCola says
I have a pic of me taking my kids out for Halloween and I have a wonder woman costume on.
Can you imagine?
I am on my way to the MAC Counter!
Michele
adele says
*swoons* Pink Power MSF.
And Russian Red in that packaging!
Amazing.
Hannah says
Ahhh Marquise’D! I can’t wait, that’s my favorite everyday lipstick, and I’m running low!
Diana says
I feel I HAVE to get the Valiant quad just because it has my name in it (Diana Undercover!)lol
Aishia SoGlam says
Karen you did an awesome job of putting this post together!!! I have a love/hate relationship with MAC however I may have to get a few of these products and one of those DAMN cute makeup bags!!! Thanks for sharing!!
Indianapolis Hair Salon says
Thanks for this Wonderwoman info. I am really excited about this line, I think the packaging is TOO cute!
