What’s Floating Your Skin Care Boat Right Now? And What’s Your Skin Type?

Clearly on a KS kick

Seeing a quick list of the skin care products you’re using at the moment, along with knowing your skin type, would be cool. That way I can be the nosy noodle that I am and virtually peep inside your medicine cabinet, ha ha! Also, I think it would be helpful to see what other people with a similar skin type use and if there are any products that seem to pop up over and over again.

Come on, you know you wanna play!

Okay, I’ll bite! I think my skin on my face is dehydrated/oily (everywhere else is just DRY), but not so oily that you notice much during the day, unless I’ve been out in the heat. What’s been really working for me is a lot of K-beauty ideals of moisturizing often & using BHA/AHA to get pimples & clogged pores to go away quickly. Also, I use a lot of products because I really like how my skin is feeling with all of them.

    Products:
Hada Labo oil cleanser (at night or if I didn’t in the morning)
    CeraVe foaming cleanser (night)
    Timeless vitamin C serum (morning)
CosRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid (couple nights a week)
CosRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid (once a week)
Innisfree Artichoke Layering Light Skin toner
    seaNtree Hyaluron Ampoule 100 (morning)
CosRX Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence (night)
Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream (on my neck in the morning, everywhere at night)
CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion (neck at night)
Either Juice Beauty oil-free sunscreen or Andalou Naturals men’s face guard during the day (the men’s is slightly cheaper than the women’s but no different!)

I also put a large amount of Bite Beauty lip mask on my lips every night.

I’ll probably get rid of the Galactomyces essence when it’s finished because I think my skin just needs moisture more than brightening.

    Hi, Karen!

I recently started using The Ordinary and I LURVE it.

I would characterize my skin as great because it is humid season here on the islands! Woohoo! Tends to be dry otherwise (my teen-late 30s skin was oily and with lots of acne.

Night: Remove makeup with almond oil + baby castille soap + Granactive Retinoid 2%
Morning: Wash with water + Buffet
Twice a week: AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution (which my husband thinks looks like chicken blood smeared on my face) + almond oil

    That’s it!

I just started using The Ordinary too! Great products, great price! At night I use Garnier Miceller water on a washcloth to cleanse. Then I use The Ordinary Buffet serum, followed by the 2% Retinol, and I top my lips with either Smith’s rosebud salve or Glossier balm dot com. I use a face mask twice a week, whatever I have that tickles my fancy! In the morning when I wake up, I use the Micellar water again, I use the Buffet serum, and The Ordinary moisturizer right when I wake up. Then a little later I put on a moisturizer with SPF. I was skurred to start using a retinol, I’m 44 so I need one, but I had heard horror stories of peeling and breakouts and redness. This one is gentle, I make sure to use it on top of a serum, and I wash it off in the morning. Skin care is the most important thing for your face I think!

Can’t say I’m loving much in my skincare routine right now. Maybe Kate Somerville Goat Milk cleanser. The old one, as I ran out and bought every good tube I could find when I heard it was being discontinued. Tried a sample of the new one, but I’m not rushing out to buy it until I use up the stock I have.
On my second bottle of SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion.
Using up DCL Peptide Eye Cream. The pump stopped working so I thought it was empty. When I broke into it there was still more than a centimeter of product in the bottom of the bottle. It’s been three weeks and I’m still dipping cotton swabs into it. Glad I didn’t automatically toss it out.

I’m very brand-loyal and RARELY change my skincare unless items are discontinued or my skin suddenly falls off from them. I have normal skin with rosacea. Here goes:

    Morning:
    Clinique Redness Solutions Soothing cleanser
    Soolantra cream (Rx)
    Revision Vitamin C Lotion 30%
    Dermadoctor Wrinkle Revenge eye cream
Dermadoctor Calm, Cool & Corrected moisturizer
Lancôme UV Expert Aquagel Defense Primer & Moisturizer SPF 50
Clinique Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base SPF 15

    Night:
Olay aloe wipes for sensitive skin (GRRR discontinued) to remove makeup in summer & Clinique cleansing balm in winter)

    Clinique Redness Solutions cleanser
    Soolantra (Rx)
    Clinique All About Eyes
Dermadoctor Calm Cool & Corrected Moisturizer

Geez I use WAY more stuff than I thought lol

At night, I wash with Purity Made Simple wash from Philosophy. Retin-A 3x per week, and I just bought an overnight BHA mask from Cosrx for the other nights. For eyes, it’s Dr. Dennis Gross Retinol and Ferulic eye serum. Lastly, a generous amount of the newer Bite Agave + night balm.

For Daytime, I cleanse with La Roche Posay Toleraine Ultra cleanser, then apply Maelove Glowmaker serum, Elta MD Daily SPF 40 and Skinceuticals AGE eye balm.

My skin is looking decent for a soon to be 47 year old!

Haha, I’ve been wanting to tell SOMEBODY about my routine in detail for ages!

    MORNING:

    Kate Somerville Exfolikate Cleanser
Kate Somerville Exfolikate Exfoliant (every other day or so)
No 7 Protect & Perfect Intense Eye Cream
Trader Joe’s Argan Oil (I recently moved to PR so I don’t really need to worry about adding moisture, just retaining it >D)
(I throw in a mud mask twice a week)

    NIGHT:
    Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil
    Differin Balancing Cleanser
    Differin Gel
    Etude House Lash Serum

My skin is combo/oily/sensitive. I recently started adding moisturizers and serums, etc to my routine (8 months ago).
I cleanse with a sensitive skin foam cleanser with hyaluronic acid. It smells like roses and feels so luxurious (andalou naturals rose cleanser). Day time I then put Vichy mineral 89 which I love. It plumps, hydrates and sinks into the skin right away. As for daytime moisturizer… I still haven’t found something appropriate for summer to control my oil. I started a natural toner, serum and eye cream for night time but so far I haven’t noticed much of anything. The most I noticed was with the Vichy. I’m going to try more of their products in the near future.

    NIGHT:

    Neutrogena Gentle Creamy Cleanser
CeraVe Night Moisturizer or Maelove The One moisturizer ( I haven’t tried the Maelove Night Cream yet)

My skin is complicated. On the dry side, but prone to some tiny blackheads in between my eyebrows, around the nose, and on the chin. I react badly to a lot of products and have a good amount of redness and some eczema.

I’m still tweaking because I’m not 100% satisfied but:

    AM:
Cleanse with Aveeno’s oatmeal cleansing bar
    Mist face with water
Moisture with Aveeno Eczema Therapy Cream
MDSolarSciences SPF 50 BB Cream in Light Medium

    PM:
Remove makeup with Bioderma Sensibio H20
    Mist face with water
Moisture with Aveeno Eczema Therapy Cream
Heavier moisturizer on dry areas – Shea butter or Aveeno Baby Eczema Balm

This keeps the redness and eczema under control but I’m still a bit dry.

Well, you know my skin issues, sensitive as all get-out. I’m suddenly having some hormonal breakouts, so that’s causing some problems, but here are my usual products:

Cleansers: First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser and Sephora Collection Clean Skin Gel Cleanse + Tone

Moisturizers: Sephora Collection All Day Hydrator and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream

Also: Kiehl’s Cucumber Herbal Toner; OleHendriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream; Sunday Riley Good Genes and Luna Retinol Sleeping Oil; and Sephora Collection Purifying Mud Mask.

Oh, and Karen, funny that you asked about our house yesterday. The contractor called today and they’re supposed to start work on Monday!!

Erno Laszlo – used to be “clocked” at 10:30 – their definition for mildly dry skin. The line is changing as to defining skin types but I’ve been with this company for 45 years and my skin is perfect. Really perfect. No lines, no wrinkles, invisible pores, and healthy. I do play with products from other lines from time to time but ALWAYS go back to EL. It is the best. I’ve been “double cleansing” since day one in 1974 and now it’s all the rage. Used to be considered extremely expensive but compared to some prices these days – very reasonable. Look it up – it’s simple, straightforward, uncomplicated, lacks hype and b.s. Just good, solid skin care. Good enough for Monroe, Hepburn, Kelly, among others….

If you peruse my Med cabinet I have every face wash known to man . But every day is different. It could be a dry day or a combo day . Right now I’m using Clinique mild soap and an SPF 30 moisturizer from Olay .
I don’t go out workout and spf on my whole body since it’s the first thing first I out on in the morning . We have a pool so I have to reapply often . Other than swimming I stay out of the sun .
At night I use renova and R & F Lash boost . I use a neck cream too ! Take care of your neck !
    It’s pretty simple .

I can’t say there is a lot of love for my skincare because my skin isn’t perfect, darn it! 🙂 In the mornings, it’s currently CeraVe Foaming Cleanser with a Clarisonic, followed by CeraVe moisturizer. At night, it’s TCFS Egg Mousse Soap and CeraVe moisturizer (3 times per week, I use SkinMedica 1% Retinol and Leneige Water Sleeping Mask). I do love the Leneige. I think I’ll go back to .5% retinol and use it every day. It’s been many, many months and my skin still can’t handle the 1% more than a few times per week. My skin is OK but I am very prone to blackheads around my nose and I think I’ve tried almost everything to just get rid of them forever. No luck. The best result was the .5% retinol daily. The 1% tends to dry me out pretty badly.

I have some supplemental products that I use on an as needed basis, but these are the basics:
    Morning:
    Tatcha The Rice Polish,Gentle
La Mer The Treatment Lotion (a very hydrating essence)
Jack Black Protein Booster Skin Serum (I’ve used this for over a decade) mixed with Fresh Seaberry Skin Nutrition Booster (it’s an oil antioxidant formula)
    Jack Black Sun Guard SPF45
I treat my face, neck, and decollate.

    Evening:
    Tatcha One-Stop Camellia Cleansing Oil
Chanel Démaquilant Yeux Intense eye makeup remover if I’ve been wearing a full load; otherwise the Tatcha cleansing oil is sufficient
    La Mer The Treatment Lotion
    Murad Nutrient-Charged Water Gel
    Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream

    Just before bed:
My prescription strength retinoid acid preparation from my dermatologist

Ugh…my skin. The last few months, I complete menopause, and the estrogen change turned me diabetic out of the blue. So my skin has gone from oily all over to oily with dry-yet-somehow-still-oily cheeks. I still get cystic acne from time to time. The aging is starting: This year I’ve gotten permanent find lines in my forehead, and my skin is showing more texture.

I recently tried a deluxe sample of Volition Strawberry-C Serum, and I love how it makes my skin feel. I ordered a full size bottle. That and L’oreal Revitalift Triple Power Intensive Anti-Aging Day Cream Moisturizer have done the most good for getting rid of the dryness. Pacifica Coconut Probiotic Water Rehab Cream helps get rid of any rogue rough patches. I’m still loving Eslor Firming Collagen Day Cream for firming up my jawline/jowls. I can’t use NYX Angel Veil on my cheeks any more, unless I mix it with a more hydrating and gel-like face primer.

    Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding
Some type of sheet mask (I’m not partial to any particular brand- I try different ones constantly)

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
