New Serums From Kate Somerville

June 18th, 2019 by Karen 15 Comments

Kate Somerville is one of my all-time, hands-down go-to skin care lines. (The Anti-Bac Clearing Lotion for acne and +Retinol Vita C Power Serum are must-haves)

Well — herald the trumpets! — they have a new line of serums called Kx Active Concentrates that are designed to firm, moisturize and downplay your fine lines, all without irritation (which is the bit that caught my eye).

Kate recommends layering two drops (because the serums are super concentrated) of the Kx Active Concentrates Bio-Mimicking Peptides Serum to clean your skin in the morning and again at night, and following up with the Deep Tissue Repair Cream.

Why is this so satisfying?!

In other news…

Incidentally, I “need” all this stuff.

OK, so I watch Emily Noel’s videos all the time because I love how down-to-earth she is, and she seems fun to hang out with, but for some reason watching this video of home-related soaps and cleaners, sunscreens, furniture and kids’ toys she loves made me especially want to BUY ALL THE THINGS.

The Dial pear soap is totally on my Target list, along with the Aveeno Baby Sunscreen (several other friends have also recommended it lately… I’m thinking it might be an unsung hero?).

The new “Noon Rule.”

HELLO, I LOVE YOU.

I loooove coffee, but I’ve come to realize that I can’t drink it in the afternoon; otherwise, I just can’t fall sleep at night. You probably don’t remember this, but a while back I was having a lot of insomnia. Well, I mentioned it to a friend I work out with at HIIT class (she also happens to be a nurse), and she said, “Karen, you shouldn’t drink coffee (even decaf) after noon.”

And ya know what? I’ve starting doing just that, and it’s been a whole new world for me. Now I just fall into bed, and I’m out like a light…within 15 minutes.

That’s good for me!

I still crave java after lunch something fierce, but I’d rather be able to sleep! I still allow myself to have as much as I want before lunch, so it works out fine.

Does you do this, too? Or are you one of those lucky people like my friend Cindy who can literally drink a strong cup of coffee after dinner and fall asleep within 10 minutes? SO JELLY.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I need to stop the java at noon. I’m okay with tea though anytime. I have family members who drink coffee all day. I don’t get it!

I wish I could do tea anytime. I would love a cup of cold, strong iced tea at dinner!

I love Emily Noel! She does seem likes someone who would be fun to hang out with. You recommended the Anti-Bac to me a while ago and it’s the best thing ever! Thank you for introducing it to me. I can’t survive without coffee. I can drink it all day and still fall asleep.

      Hi Leah,

Seriously, Anti-Bac is life changing! I always have a bottle on hand. If I get lazy and forget to put it on I definitely pay the price.

Do you use any other Kate Somerville products?

Those new serums look interesting! I like that a little bit goes a long way

I love Emily Noel’s YouTube channel. In a video I was watching recently she was wearing the Cat Ladies shirt from Connor Claire!

I can’t drink too much caffeine in the afternoon. Coffee is definitely a morning drink for me, usually with lots of cream and sugar. 🙂

She’s really lovely. I hope to meet her sometime in real life because I feel like we could hang out!

What’s your preferred creamer of choice? I usually do whole milk because that’s what we have around.

Same here, just milk. In the summer, I love iced coffee. I’ve done some shopping around and the ones from McDonalds are my favorite. I’m not a real coffee connoisseur so that satisfies my cravings.

Pear soap sounds divine! I’m going to look for it! I just started using a serum from The Ordinary and it’s changed my life! A little goes a long way and my skin is glowy and smooth! Oh, and I could drink a pot of coffee and fall asleep in five minutes. That kinda worries me, but not enough to stop drinking coffee all day. 😂

I wish I could do that, LOL! I’m craving a cup really badly right now but it’s 1:40 so no java for me, ahhhh!

You’re welcome, Jackie. She’s one of my faves. I love her personality and her makeup is gorgeous.

Hope you’re having a wonderful week so far!

Love Kate Somerville Goat Milk cleanser.
Yes, the “noon rule” applies to me, too. I had coffee gelato after dinner on Sunday and I could not fall asleep. I was still tossing at turning at 3:45 a.m and had to get up at 6:30 for the gym. Grrr.
My trainer is completely unaffected by caffeine. She admits to having espresso after dinner and then going home and zonking right out. I can’t tell you how jealous I am of her ability to fall asleep.

Love EmilyNoel and love coffee! I’ve been toying with the idea of cutting back on coffee. Letting myself have as much as I want before lunch then cutting myself off in the afternoon sounds like a good compromise.

Now you see how it feels to want to buy all the stuff that someone is recommending! HAHA! I’m like Cindy – I could drink 40 tons of caffeine immediately before bed and be out like a light. I had problems falling asleep immediately when I quit caffeine. I’m sure that’s a bad sign of addiction. But I never drink coffee, except in the morning. I’m more of a soda girl in the evening.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
