Urban Decay UD The Feminine Palette and Pre-Friday Fun

February 10th, 2011 by Karen 86 Comments

urban decay ud the feminine palette

Tonight is all about the ladies, y’all, at Club Urban Decay (aka MBB Headquarters), and girls and gatos get in free — that’s cruelty-free — with the new Urban Decay UD The Feminine Palette ($34). 🙂

From the stylish clothes it wears, to the shimmery shades it bears (browns, pinks, purples and teal), this palette’s guaranteed to turn heads and put all eyes on you. The colors feel so lighthearted, girlie and fun that I believe it’s my favorite of the latest batch of spring palettes from Urban Decay.

As you might be able to tell from these snapshots, I was feelin’ mighty Feminine today. For my eye look, I started with a thin layer of Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden applied with my fingers from my lash line to the brow bone, which I followed up by sweeping Midnight Cowboy Eyeshadow directly on top with a flat eyeshadow brush. Since Midnight Cowboy has gargantuan gobs o’ glitter, I used a makeup wipe to clean the fallout.

Then, with the very same eyeshadow brush, I patted Dark Horse Eyeshadow on my inner lid, and Ecstacy Eyeshadow on the outer, to give the eyes extra depth and color. After that, I blended the edges of both shades with a domed blending brush, drawing both slightly into the crease.

Next, to draw even MORE attention to my eyes, I lined my waterlines using the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero that comes with the set, following up with Aquarius Eyeshadow, applied with an angled eye brush, for a light dash of color along my lower lash line.

To finish the eyes, I curled my lashes and applied two layers of Urban Decay Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara on my upper and lower lashes.

Continuing the same soft theme for the cheeks and lips, I swept Hookup Blush from the Urban Decay Face Case on my apples, and wrapped it all up by applying a mix of Urban Decay’s Midnight Cowboy and Naked Lipsticks on my pucker with a lip brush.

Tada! The whole look takes only about 15 minutes, and I like how it turned out. I might even try it again on Valentine’s Day.

Will you be my Valentine?

Speaking of the big V, are you pairing up this year or flying solo? I’ve done a lot of both in my time. This year El Hub and I don’t have big plans. Maybe just dinner and a movie. We might even bring Tabs on our date, LOL!

Just kidding. 🙂

Onward to Friday! Sleep well, and I’ll see you soon (the Jersey Shore is calling).

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Stunning! I love how relatively subtle the eye look is while still making your eyes the focus, and your cheeks look amazingly glowy/healthy! A beauty, as always, Karen.

Nah, The Big V is not a huge deal with us-usually my hubby is out of town since he travels a lot with work. So when he is here we just enjoy spending quality time together.

I saw your comment on an old post! The notification was hiding somewhere in my inbox. I’m so jealous! I’ve wanted to see it, but it only played at one theater for a week or two in DC :(. How was it?

I can’t remember the name of the play, but it’s something about the life of some film critic. It sounds like it could be interesting!

Tomorrow will be spent setting up my new iPhone 😀 :D. I’ll need to save the photo I took of Aisha that’s my phone background right now. It’s cute, but it’s stretched to fit the screen, so she looks even fatter than usual, lol.

Any weekend excitement for you? What’s Tabs doing? Any new modeling jobs?

I loved this look so much that I decided to try it myself this morning. It turned out so well I think it might be the best eyes I’ve ever done.

I dug out all my UD makeup – I have the Naked pallete, the UD Face Case, and the UD Sephora Beauty in a Box set.

I started with UDPP in Sin. Then I used Midnight Cowboy Rides Again from the Face Case from lash to brow. Then I used Romp from the Beauty Box on my outer lid, and Darkhorse from the Naked palette on the inner lid. I patted them on and then blended. Then I used Skimp from the Beauty Box to highlight from my inner corner to my brow bone. Then I pressed Grifter from the Face Case into my lash line. I lined my waterline with 24/7 in Zero. I used the Hookup blush and the Naked lipgloss from the Face Case.

I finished by using Tarte Lights Camera Lashes mascara, Benefit Erase Paste under my eyes, Benefit Bright Eye on the inner corners, and Clinique Instant Brow Lift on my brows.

For once, I remembered to do my eyes first – thanks for the reminder Karen. And I even put loose powder on my cheeks to help with fall out removal. And I used all freshly cleaned brushes and used four brushes for my eyes. I think that reusing brushes may have been my problem in the past. So while it took me forever and was much more complex than my normal makeup, the payoff was huge – my eyes turned out great.

Thanks for doing this awesome look Karen. Mine wasn’t quite as good, but a big improvement from my usual. I’m going to keep trying combinations this weekend and see what else I can come up with. I’m loving the look.

Awesome, Sarah! Don’t you love it when makeup makes you feel good? If you come up with more fun combos please let me know… and if you feel like sharing take a pic and send it to me! 🙂

Did you wet your brush when you put Aquarius on your lash line?

          Hi Sarah,

Nope, not this time. I applied it dry and kinda buffed it out to smooth out the edges.

Loving the blue on the lower lash line!! I really need to start doing that trick. How do you avoid the dreaded undereye smudging though? Do you use primer beforehand?

And solo Valentine’s Day here, Cupid can kiss my ass. 🙂

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
