Urban Decay Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara: How I Wish My Lashes Looked Naturally

May 13th, 2009 by Karen 31 Comments

Makeup packaging junkies, get a load of the purple scribbles on Urban Decay’s Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara ($22). Isn’t this cutie the hotness?

Urban Decay says their newest mascara works in six ways — lengthening, strengthening, separating, curling, brightening and thickening lashes without clumping or flaking. That’s a whole lot of ing words, LOL!

It comes in just a single shade, Black, and what I like best about it is that I still feel my lashes look natural with it on.

I’ve been looking for a deep black mascara with a matte finish, and Skyscraper Multi-Benefit fits the bill. Three coats equal deep black, visibly enhanced lashes that still feel soft to the touch.

In terms of application, Skyscraper Multi-Benefit doesn’t clump. It does begin to flake if I apply more than two coats, but I didn’t think it was a problem even with three.

As for its overall lash enhancing powers, it’s not bad at all, delivering longer, better defined lashes (although not particularly thicker), but I usually prefer mascaras that bring the drama even more.

I can’t really tell if it makes my lashes stronger, brighter or curlier, but as it stands, I like having a mascara like this one that enhances lashes while maintaining a natural look.

I wish my lashes always looked the way they do when I’m wearing three coats of Skyscraper Multi-Benefit.

Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

You might like Urban Decay Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara if…

  1. …you’re on the hunt for longer, better-defined lashes,
  2. …you like mascaras that leave your lashes feeling soft,
  3. …you want a formula with a matte, instead of a glossy finish,
  4. …you’re comfortable spending about $20 for mascara.

If you’re already blessed with thick, naturally curly lashes and just want them a little longer, then you may *really* like Urban Decay Skyscraper Multi-Benefit.

Karen

I don’t know Karen, I just purchased Stila’s Lash Visor mascara per your recommendation and I’m starting to really love it. It gives great volume and still leaves my lashes soft, plus the price! It is very right. 😀

The Urban Decay looks really cute though, and I like the brush design, so I’ll try it on in Sephora when I run into it. 🙂

    Good review!

      Hi Elena,

OMIGOSH isn’t that Stila mascara the SHIZZ? I wish they had a non-waterproof version so I could wear it every day.

You should def. try this one, too. The look is totally different — less glossy and more natural. 🙂

      Happy Thursday!

Chanel inimitable is my holy grail, but this is interesting. I’ve been disappointed by urban decay recently, so I’m torn. Maybe when it’s time to throw out my chanel, I’ll give this a go.

      Hi Shontay,

Chanel Inimitable is pretty darn great. Did you ever pick up the navy blue version? I wish I did when it was out.

We don’t get Urban Decay here, but I like how it looks on your lashes – it looks natural not spidery and scary! Glad you are now feeling better 🙂

That’s great! I love Urban Decay products. I have to wear waterproof mascara though because my eyes water so much!

      Hi Linda,

Hmm, maybe try Stila Lash Visor. It’s waterproof and stands up to tears and sweat.

    Hi Karen,
Long time no see! Have you checked out Style Warrior yet? I’m not going to lie, A Rose Romance was so-so for me, but I’m really diggin the Style Warrior collection! If you haven’t seen it yet, we got samples to check out at the counter and we’re preselling for it too. ALSO, just to let you know, on MAY 23, Nordstrom will be having a buy two get one free mascara from any line. It’s just that the three mascaras have to be from the same line. =) Let me know if you want to take advantage of it!

I’m a fan of natural looking mascaras! Although they don’t stand a chance against my excessive lacrimal fluid production if they’re not waterproof!

(Psst. I’m a medical student revising for exams. Thanks for providing light relief between studying!)

      Hi Jian,

Oh fab! Once upon a time I had dreams to be a doctor. Then I worked in a hospital and found out that I hated blood, LOL!

Anyway, how soon will it be until I to say, “What’s up, DOC?!?” Will you be graduating soon?

The packaging is raly cute but I’m not a fan of naturally looking mascaras. I prefer a more dramatic effect. But I love how this looks on you!

    Hi Karen,

Your blog really catches my interest… love it! As for a mascara that’s around 20 bucks, pretty out of my range but your entries are very helpful.

Karen, I wasn’t even aware of a navy blue one and now you’ve made me sad :(. lol I just started using chanel around last summer. Before that, I went through every mascara in sephora. I had settled for dior and hated it, but then I bought a glossimer and decided to give the mascara a go. The rest is history :).

      Hi Shontay,

You and me both, girl. I saw it online a bunch of times and figured I could still get it but left it to the last minute and missed the boat (SIGH).

Have you tried their Exceptionnel? The brush is tricky but it’s really great once you get the hang of it!

Karen, I’ve never tried Exceptionnel, but I’ve been tempted. Inimitable is just so awesome, my friend thought I had on false lashes! I have think, long lashes, but I want a mascara that will exaggerate that. Natural is not what I go for and inimitable does the trick. Why do you say Excpetionnel is tricky, though?

      Hi Shontay,

The brush is weirdly shaped. It has two different rows — one stubby, one long. You have to use a special method to apply it (you need to rotate and wiggle the brush), too. There’s instructions in the box but if you do end up getting have a Chanel MUA talk you through it to make it easier. But once you get it down it’s GRAVY!

How does it wash off? That’s as important to me as how a mascara wears. I hate waking up with raccoon eyes even after I’ve washed my makeup off at night. Some mascara is very stubborn.
