Urban Decay Fall 2009 Lipstick Swatches and a Helluva Lot of Randomness

July 22nd, 2009 by Karen 71 Comments

Urban Decay Lipstick in Naked

Is it just me, or did today feel like the longest Wednesday EVER? I started off with good intentions — I meant to finish a project, do a couple loads of laundry and run my errands after work, but somewhere along the way things went to hell in a hand basket.

Tomfoolery reared its unproductive head, and an impromptu afternoon photo session with Tabs did not help.

Work it, Tabs! Make love to the camera.

072209-urban-decay-fall-2009-lipsticks-tabs-small

This began as a simple Urban Decay Fall 2009 lipstick post. There are only three lipsticks in the release (Naked, Oilslick and Confession, $22 each), so it shouldn’t have taken long, right?

Oh, how I wish…

I guess it’s hard to take yourself seriously when you’re wearing sparkly black lipstick. 🙂

All three of the lipsticks in the release feel thin and slick on my lips and give off a faint brown sugar fragrance (but they’re unflavored).

Of all the shades, creamy pink Naked ended up being my favorite because of how wearable I think it is. Then, I’d go with Oilslick, a shimmery gray-black, in second place and Confession, a deep brownish plum, rounding out third.

These aren’t colors I’d wear to Safeway to buy bananas, but they’re still a lot of fun. And should I ever get turned by Vampire Bill (VB!), I could wear Oilslick and Confession all the time.

It never hurts to be prepared!

Speaking of True Blood, I’m still hooked. El Hub and I are watching the last two episodes of the first season tonight on DVD.

What are you up to? I hope you got more done today than I did.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hi Karen: You’re hilarious. How do these lipsticks compare to MAC or Clinique or any drugstore brands?

btw: I found out I’m pregnant this week. Aaaugh! I wrote a guest-post here a few months ago on baby & mommy products. This makes baby #2. I had to tell someone because my husband and I decided to keep it a secret until we feel that we’re out of the woods, so to speak. I don’t think I’ll keep this secret for long, though.

      Hi Jane,

Honey, congratulations! This is such exciting news. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope that things go smoothly until you’re out of the woods. Thank you for sharing this with me… I’m really happy for you!

About the lipsticks, I would say they’re similar to Clinique’s Almost Lipstick. Actually, Oilslick kinda reminds me a little of Black Honey.

Ahahahahaha!!! You are so adorable. This is the kind of stuff that keeps me reading your blog, even while I’m too broke to buy makeup. Seriously, there’s nothing unproductive about tomfoolery. Sometimes you just have to let go and have a blast.

And I’m lovin’ those lipsticks on you! They look totally different on you than in the tubes. If I wouldn’t have seen them on you, I would have immediately written them off as unwearable, but they look very nice with your complexion. I wonder if I can pull them off…

Oh, and your hair looks super cool all wavy like that. I’ve decided to grow my hair out again, but this time I’m only using semi-permanent dye ’cause I plan to change the color once it gets long. I’m thinking I may go back to my natural dark blond, but not sure yet…

      Hi Sole,

You could easily do the two darker ones in addition to the nude. It would look very dramatic with your skin. Lovely!

Thanks re the hair. I finally had a good hair day after a weekend of Medusa hair. I just started using a product from Bumble & Bumble for beachy waves… I really like it so far!

While I love your hair short, I think it also looks great long, too. What made you decide to grow it out again?

at this point, i’ve just decided that i really ought to have been born a vampire…i already have the white porcelain skin and the amber eyes, and lord knows sister would love to sparkle (in the land of the twilight vampires)

so i’ve been hunting vampy shades for fall. sephora doesn’t have their fall stuff out yet – i’m curious to see how nars’ fast ride lipstick holds up next to confession…fast ride seems more violet, confession a more vampy plum? until i decide, i’ll be playing with mac lipstick in media

karen – i can so see the secret punk rock kid in you busting out in oil slick – its also really great layered on top of stuff, try paranoid lipstick…sexxxy

Ha ha ha ha ha, rotfl. Oh, your impromptu shoots always leave me crying from laughing so hard! Poor Tabs! He didn’t look like he was happy being disturbed from his nap!

Let’s see it’s 11 PM and I’m….drinking Coca-Cola. This could very well be the culprit of my staying up until 4 AM. Well, that and movies. Have you ever noticed there is nothing on television in the morning? Maybe that’s why I’ve become a night owl. Or maybe it’s because watching the Tudors at night is cooler at night (it’s a pity the last season will be airing in 2010. Why are all the good shows so short?!?!?!).

Zena is uber tired because she was tranquilized (she’s terrified of thunder) at noon so she’s snoring up a storm. I’ve also just realized I need a manicure….my nails are getting to the poking-eyeball-when-taking-out-contact-lenses length and I’m awful at trimming them myself. I always manage to cut them too short so I feel like I have stubby fingers.

confession + a sultry smudged maroon shadow would be pretty hawt for fall… i’m thinking chunky knits & platform heels!

Also, I thought of you and Tabs yesterday when my sister and I were out walking our dog. She’s a cat person (more like the cat whisperer, to be honest–she can get any cat to come over to her with her meowing skillz), and there’s this cat down the street that has now adopted her as his cuddle partner whenever we see him lounging around on our walks. He only has three legs, so when he walks he has this little ‘pimp limp’ (or at least that’s what we call it) and he’s black and white. I think you’d love him!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
