Tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner in Donutella, and One Way to Wear Pink

May 6th, 2010 by Karen 44 Comments

What’s up, chica? How’s your day been? Rocking hard, I hope, like old school Van Halen (insert headbang [HERE]).

One of my favorite morning rituals lately involves a cup of green tea (with honey, YUM!) and your comments. This morning I was looking at the comments on Saturday’s Tokidoki Perfetto Liner post. Lots of us were brainstorming ideas for ways to wear Donutella, the funky pink liner in the pictures.

Um… pink liner? Yup, it ain’t your average basic brown or black, but that’s no reason to fear, because Donutella is here! This cutie’s actually downright wearable.

Here’s one subtle way to wear it that’s pretty doable for daytime. I used a mix of products from MAC, Tokidoki and Rimmel.

The recipe…

  • Tokidoki Perfetto Liner in Donutella
  • A black liquid liner; I used LORAC Front of the Line Pro
  • A black pencil liner like MAC Technakohl in Graphblack
  • A white or beige pencil liner like MAC Chromographic Pencil in NW25/NC30
  • A black mascara like Rimmel Glam Eyes Lash Flirt Mascara

Ready to start?

First, draw a thick line along your upper lash line with Donutella (or something similarly bright), adding a little flick at the end if you’re feeling dramatic. 🙂

Then, using a black liquid liner, trace a very thin line along the lashes directly on top of the pink. Thicken the line ever so slightly as you move out toward the outer corner of your eye (the side closest to your ear).

Next, with your black pencil, line the upper waterline.

Finish by lining the lower waterline with the white or beige pencil (it helps make your eyes look wide open), and coat both upper and lower lashes with mascara.

Completo! All done!

I love how the pink comes through without being so bright or obvious that it’s screaming, “LOOK AT ME!”

When I blink (or make a goofy face, heh!), there’s a quick flash of color… Kinda cool, isn’t it? Like a makeup surprise!

If pink’s not your thing, maybe give it a try with something else, like a bright orange, yellow or green. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’m always nervous about wearing pink on the eyelid…I think that bright pink is the WORST color for eyeshadow or eyeliner (I can’t get that Amy Adams 2009 Allure cover out of my mind!)

However, it looks okay on you! I am surprised. Maybe it’s a skin tone thing? I’m probably too white to pull it off…..

That would look super cute! Might be cute to use a very dark navy to tightline along the upper lash line…

Saw a woman wearing something similar the other day and thought it was really striking. She also had darker skin and really made the colors seem rich. On my pale skin, not so sure.

What gloss are you wearing? Looks fab.

I was sooo tempted to get this at Sephora yesterday since I saw it on your post last week but couldn’t think of how to wear it. I got the Tokidoki luminizer instead. This liner looks really good with the black! I might just go back and get it, Tokidoki has the cutest packaging!

Sorry I’m only going to comment on my love for Van Halen with Diamond Dave – the Haggar years did not exist IMO. My favorite VH song of all time, “Hot for Teacher” with “Running with the Devil” at a close second.

Karen, this is so cool! And very easy to do, and quick too! Guess the next time I am rushing for time, instead of just a dash of some neutral brown or champagne-colored eyeshadow like my Stila Kitten, I would just whip up one of my colored eyeliners and follow the steps you have outlined.

I have also used colored liners as base for my eyeshadows and also on its own. 🙂
