Chanel Spring 2009: Mystic Eyes Quad Swatches and More!

January 8th, 2009 by Karen 59 Comments

Leave it to Chanel to elevate brown eyeshadow into something extraordinary. I wasn’t sure if the brown, plum and taupe eye shades from this year’s Bohemian Fantasy collection would be able to top last spring’s ultra hot Aurora Blues, but after swatching ’em I think they have.

These colors are earthy, but they aren’t boring at all. There’s a good mix of cool and warm tones, too, so nobody gets left out, yay!

From left to right:

  • Sand Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow: warm shimmery taupe
  • Delta Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow: cool yellow gold
  • Brown shade from Mystic Eyes Quadra Eyeshadow: neutral deep brown with gold flecks
  • Pink shade from Mystic Eyes: cool, shimmery light pink
  • Silvery gray shade from Mystic Eyes: neutral, shimmery gray taupe
  • Light brown shade from Mystic Eyes: warm, shimmery gold brown
  • Magic Night Soft Touch Eyeshadow: shimmery plum brown
  • Brun Precision Eye Definer Crayon: dark, shimmery gold brown

The only thing from this release hasn’t really rocked my boat has been Liberty Soft Touch Eyeshadow (a shimmery beige). It sure looks a lot like MAC Shroom…

A few days ago I did a soft and smokey plum brown eye with a wash of Delta over my entire eye, lining the upper and lower lash lines with Brun liner, and then smudging Magic Night eyeshadow on top of the liner.

I paired it with Fandango blush and Aqualumiere lipstick in Malta to complete the look.

What do you think of these shades? They make me wanna put on my stretchy pants, call over my girlfriends and bust out the ice cream for a massive makeup makeover par-tay, LOL!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Are you planning to stop by the MAC counter to check out Brunette Blonde Redhead? I’m heading there tonight!

    Well I saw them in the compact and wasn’t impressed but then saw them on your arm and really liked most of them! I am dying to see BBR and was wishing they would have had them online today as part of their 25% off promotion, but noooooo. Oh well!

    I LOVE the colors! Why does Chanel have to be so amazing?

    You really can’t go wrong with a brown/bronze smokey eye, it’s always so pretty.

    You inspired my Saturday date night make up :-). I bought brown boots and cream sweater for the night, so this will be perfect!

    Hi Vampy Varnish,

    The same thing happened to me… I didn’t think it would be all that but once I got it on then I fell under its spell. 🙂

    I was wondering when I woke up this morning if the 25% would apply to BBR, too. Did you get to see the collection yet in person?

    I bought Parisian Lights and it is BEAUTIFUL and I thought the beige-y matte 553 quint Elegante wouldn’t look all that different on my skin but it did and I want that for work looks… so I can save my IL quint. XD;

    The taupe eyeliner released with Dior is also lovely, but at 26$ I think I’ll have to find an alternative… XD;

    i bought the quad 2 days ago and love the colors! but they don’t seem to stay on my brushes very well…after applying and admiring my handiwork, i noticed so much glitter/shimmer below my eyes and on my cheeks! these are the first shadows i’ve bought that are NOT mac in YEARS, so i was a bit disappointed with the staying power…but the colors are just so pretty!

    I did get out to MAC today for BBR though, scored the Blonde MSF, Knight, Pincurl (love the pink iridescence) and Strawberry Blonde lipglass (SO pretty)!

    Hi Karen,

    I LOVE my Mystic Eyes Quad….I got the two lip glosses also in Beige Guitar and Mystic Rose. I think the eyeshadow quad looks really good our brown eyes. I tried the Fandango blush, it was a bit muddy on me, so I skipped it.

    I picked up the quad this past weekend and just adore it. I usually do a new eye look everyday, but I wake up in the morning dying until I can get ready and put this on. It’s just fantastic and can I say, I think I like it more than the quad from this Fall??!! Ahh! Did I just commit a Chanel sin?

    I wish I had more $$ to get a few other items from this collection, but am quite content with my purchase.

    Happy Friday.

    Girl — I found a really nice lip combo last night. I used Rose Rebelle lipstick with Beige Guitare on top. It’s really pretty. You could probably dupe it with a rosey pink frost lipstick if you have one lying around. 🙂

    Rest in peace – poor truck! My husband and I share one car – but I take the good old DC metro to work and we live right near a mall. I stopped at Nordstrom on the way home from work last night:) It will be painful to move from our current convenient locale!
