Chanel Spring 2009: Product Pictures and Description

December 22nd, 2008 by Karen 19 Comments

Chanel’s Spring 2009 makeup collection has me salivating! Inspired by boho-chic style and gypsy dresses, the new look features plum and beige colors for the eyes, fiery red and nude lip shades and a brown cheek color. I haven’t seen it in person (yet), but the product descriptions and pictures make me think of singer Stevie Nick’s early 80s witchy-boho-gypsy style.

While delving through the house archives, Peter Philips, Global Creative Makeup Director for CHANEL, rediscovered gypsy dresses by Gabrielle Chanel. “The Gypsy is a heroine with very distinctive beauty codes,” he explains. “After looking through the sketches by Mademoiselle Chanel, I also wanted to play with all of these contrasts. The gypsy’s eyes are as dark as her lips are fiery. She has the passion of travel in her veins, that of celebration, dance, and especially that of darkness and mystery.”

I love the description, “The gypsy’s eyes are as dark as her lips are fiery. She has the passion of travel in her veins, that of celebration, dance, and especially that of darkness and mystery.” Makes me want to get it!

    Hi Yadiq,

You and me, both. I am always a bit cautious about plum eye shades but I’m sure once I see it I’ll be in love.

Oh, I am feeling a little better, thanks for asking!

How are you doing? It sounds like you’re crazy busy at work!

I’ve just got vendetta le vernis and it’s gorgeous! Like a purple version of blue satin, very dark almost black purple with gorgeous shimmer to give it depth. Stunning!

I also really like the lip compact, very pretty!

Karen, I bought the quad and I think you’ll love it. It’s one of those rare quads that works for all kinds of skin tones. It has great neutrals for spring. Wild Rose glossimer is gorgeous also. Fandango blush looked awful on me, but I think it would be perfect for your skin color.

I have never bought anything from Chanel other than nail polish so I’m not sure about this (and of course I already have Vendetta on the way!). The description isn’t my fav (I am not a fan of anything Boho) but the colors look pretty decent. I just hate paying that much for makeup when I feel I can get the same or better at say MAC!

Hi Karen. I’m excited to see Mystic Eyes. The 5 satin lip colour is interesting too. What is Rouge Double Intensite Ultra Wear Lip Colour? A new lipstick? I like the colours from Rouge Hydrabase a lot but like the texture and finish of Rouge Allure.

I find papaya mushy and the taste too strong; the sweeter it is, the worse for me LOL. I don’t like the smell of durian but I can eat a bit. 🙂

I’m all over a Rosewood Glossimer! Gotta see the plums too, there’s such a range of color that gets described as “plum”! I’m a little bummed though, ’cause when I heard “gypsy” I thought “oooOOOoooh, hot new Exceptionnel colors!” 😉

Vampy Varnish, I can’t wait to see Vendetta swatches! 🙂

    Hi Karen,

I just bought the new Chanel lipstick in Rose Rebelle yesterday at Neimans. I love it and I usually don’t go for pink lipsticks, but this color is great and is an instant pick me up.

The spring eye color quad is also great but I didn’t buy that. 🙂

Absolutely LOVE Chanel’s new Spring Make-up! Fandango blush is beautiful! So is the Malta Aqualumiere Sheer Colour Lipshine. I used the nude lip liner with it as well as the Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Beige Guitare. I also bought the Quad in Mystic Eyes as well as the Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer in Brun Cuivré. Beautiful look! I am broke, but happy!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
