Chanel Spring 2009 Makeup: The Aqualumiere Lipsticks

December 30th, 2008 by Karen 18 Comments

The two Aqualumiere lipsticks in Chanel’s Spring 2009 Makeup Collection make me want to sip hot java late at night from oversized mugs while listening to spoken word poetry and whispers of revolution.

The collection’s called Bohemian Fantasy, and both of the lip shades, Malta and Positano ($27 each), ease out of winter with just the faintest hints of color.

The easy-to-wear, nude colors are tender enough to work with almost any look, like the comfy white t-shirts of the lipstick world — classic yet breezy — and will pair perfectly with floaty floral dresses, or jeans and tank tops.

Malta’s a shimmery peachy-pink copper with golden glitter, and unlike many coppers that look too Oompa Loompa orange on my lips, Malta looks just right (yay!). One layer and I’m ready to spring out the door! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Beige lipsticks don’t always work for me. They can be too cool for my skin tone, looking washed out, aka zombie makeover… Positano, on the other hand, has enough warmth in it to keep me looking like I belong among the living. Like Malta, it looks great on its own, and a single layer is all it takes. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Chanel’s Aqualumiere lipsticks won’t spoil your dinner, either, because they’re taste- and fragrance-free. Not only are they sheer (sometimes I don’t want to wear a thick/heavy lipstick), but they’ve got SPF 15 to boot. At $27 each, they’re a splurge, but they’re colors I think I could wear *every single day*.

Bohemian fantasy vs. Bohemian Rhapsody

I really wanted Chanel to call this collection Bohemian Rhapsody instead of Bohemian Fantasy… Dang, I love that Queen song.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I don’t really like these colors, they usually don’t work for me. I prefer pink shades. I’m natural blonde with white skin so I’m not crazy about these colors.

I am in love with these colors and would love to see them in person. I am going to be on the lookout for these at my nearest Chanel counter!

    It’s party time! It’s excellent!! 😉

Malta looks wonderful on you! These shades don’t do it for me, but I’m sure I’ll find plenty more to love!

Hi Karen. I swatched these Aqualumiere on the back of my hand and they look brown so I passed. I do have Aqualumiere lipstick in Marjorca. I saw the collection last evening and bought the eye quad and Rose Rebelle. Everything is beautiful. Gipsy Scarlett is gorgeous! The red is perfect for me, but I don’t wear red often so I need to consider. What is Rouge Double Intensite Ultra Wear Lip Colour (because we don’t have it here)? I’m eagerly awaiting your review so I can decide if I need more items. 😉

I LOVE Bohemian Rhapsody. We did a choir version in my first year at teacher training college, so much fun!

Anyways, I love Malta. I think I’ll certainly get that one when it comes out. Looks like a great addition to my ‘everyday’ lipsticks with a tad of extra luxe.
Btw, I’m wearing lipstick/gloss daily now… what a difference from before eh?

    Hi Tavia,

I like pink shades, too. What are your favorite pink lipsticks?

    Hi Kelley,

YAY! If you like natural lip colors I think you’ll like these. Are you a full-fleged Chanel junky, too?

    Hi Glosslizard,

LOL — I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve watched Wayne’s World.

Chanel addicts, UNITE! Did Santa bring you any for Christmas this year?

    Hi Miss QQ,

Oh! It’s a two ended long-wear lipstick and gloss combo. I’m reviewing it either today or tomorrow…

What did you think of the eyeshadow singles?

    Hi Karen B.,

I know! I remember your no lipstick days, LOL!

That’s so cool that you guys did a choir version. I’m actually a Queen fan — Freddie Mercury was quite a performer.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my three-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my kitty supermodel cat (Tabs).
