5 Days of Chanel Rouge Coco: Bonjour, Mademoiselle!

February 22nd, 2010 by Karen 111 Comments

With Rouge Coco, Chanel begins a new chapter in their storied book of makeup and beauty. The new flagship lipsticks launch this week, 🙂 and to herald their arrival I’m planning some looks that feature colors from the collection.

Fo’ sheezy, I fell in love the moment I saw today’s color, Mademoiselle 05, aka the creamy, rosy pink Vanessa Paradis (Johnny Depp’s baby mama) wears in the Chanel Rouge Coco ads.

Mademoiselle’s hydrating formula glides across my lips, leaving them soft AND moisturized.

Oh, and the pigmentation?

Freaking AMAZING! Full color coverage in a single layer.

It’s a color I see myself wearing everywhere, from work meetings to cocktail parties and then to Target for kitty litter, ha!

And my favorite thing about the shade is how I feel wearing it with colorful clothes (like the green dress I found on sale at Marshall’s yesterday). It just feels easier to dress up with Mademoiselle on my lips, and I feel more confident, pretty and feminine.

If you’re still on the fence about it (I understand because thirty bones IS a lot for lipstick), keep in mind its flexibility. Dressed up in a business suit or down in jeans and a T, Mademoiselle is a color I bet I’ll reach for often.

That green is lovely on you!

OK, I was going to resist because these are permanent colors but I must go check out that lipstick. It looks so fabulous. I use MAC Syrup as my goes with anything color but I’d love something a smidge darker, more opaque, and longer lasting.

Ha ha! Nope, let’s hope these will be around for a long, long time because they’re great.

I think you’ll be thrilled with the wear time… I only have to reapply once or maybe twice throughout the day. It’s rare to find something so long-lasting that doesn’t dry out the lips!

Beautiful pics! That lipstick is really a great color on you! I’m a nut for highly pigmented, luxe lippies, like YSL Rouge Volupte. How do these rate in comparison, in your opinion?

    • Karen says

      February 22nd, 2010 at 4:13 pm

I’ve tried Rouge Volupte a few times at the counter, and those seem a lot more glossy. I think Chanel was really going for a classic lipstick look with these colors… some of ’em have shine, but they don’t have the high gloss that the YSL Rouge Voluptes have.

Mademoiselle is absolutely lovely on you. It’s one of those quintessential spring time colors that will look beautiful day or night. It’s vibrant without shouting, “Hello! Pink here!” I usually wear gloss for day and lipstick for special outtings or for night, but I can easily see Rouge Coco for anywhere; any time. 🙂 My compliments on your whole look!

            update on Mademoiselle:

Okay so I bought the very last tube!! So excited but once the excitement wore off I feel like it’s very MEH on me. Without a liner it pulls very orangey on me. So I layered it on top of Cream O’Spice and it looks better but it looks like every other pink brown lipsticks/glosses I would wear to work. I’m debating about exchanging this for either Beige Felin or some other statement making color…thoughts???

I totally thought I’d love it because I love Angel (LOL, he’ll always be Angel to me!), but the ep I watched started with a bunch of human innards being weighed on a scale and I couldn’t take the blood and guts. 🙁 I’m a wimp like that. Are all the episodes so, um, gory?

about bones, yeah i am squeemish too!! i *cannot* handle blood. thats why i watch it because 98% of episodes dont have gore. i encourage you to give it another chance!! 😀 (though there is the occasional bloody one–but nothing too bad)

Hey Emma, you can certainly wear it sheerer than I have it in these pics. Try applying it to your lower lip only, and then pressing your lips together to distribute the color. That should create a sheer wash of color on your lips!

You look fabulous in that lipstick and the dress. I can see Mademoiselle being an “everyday” sort of lipstick… it’s so pretty without being in-your-face about it!

I just got home from work, and stopped at The Bay for some MAC — Stacked 1 pigments and Lavender Wind lipglass from Spring Colour Forecast and Show Orchid lipstick from Riveting. Can’t wait to wear it all…

That shade looks fabulous on you! Too spendy for a makeup newbie like me (at least for now… I’m sure that’ll change soon, lol), but it does sound amazing!

Karen (or her beloved followers): What would be a good comparable color from another brand, like MAC?

Hi Jane, You could try lining and filling in your lips with MAC Subculture Lip Liner or Sublime Culture Cremestick liner and popping a layer of Chapstick on top for a similar look.

    Looking lovely!

Mademoiselle looks very matte on Vanessa Paradis and has a bit of shine on you- is it the lighting?

I picked up the tube of Mademoiselle I had reserved for the big Coco Rouge debut today. I LOVE IT!!! An absolutely perfect color— almost a neutral. As a matter of fact, I loved it so much I ended up buying two so I could keep one in my purse and one in my make up kit at home. Great review Karen! I am really enjoying The Five Days of Rouge Coco.

I love Mademoiselle on you! I’m going to have to go back to the Chanel counter to try this one. I bought Legende instead and love it.

    Hi Karen,

I’m new to this blog. Pretty cool and I love makeup. I was wondering does this new chanel lipstick have any kind of fragrance? If so can you describe it. I love lipstick that smell nice 🙂

      Hi ValentinaSugar,

      It’s nice to meet ya!

Yes, the Rouge Cocos have a scent. They smell lightly of roses, but it’s not an “old lady” kinda rose, if that makes any sense.

    Hi,

I love your blog! I purchased the online store exclusive shade from this new COCO collection, called Tehran, number 56 and I simply love it. It is a gorgeous coral. I’m in love with it!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
