Have You Seen the Hourglass Extreme Sheen Holiday Set?

November 3rd, 2010 by Karen 62 Comments

Extreme Sheen Lipgloss in Siren

I love the blue top I’m wearing in this picture, but I’m not entirely proud of the stretchy black pants I’m wearing with it (too many 100 Grand bars before, during and after Halloween), even though they’re incredibly comfy.

How comfy are they? Well, they’re almost as comfy as the glosses in the new Hourglass Extreme Sheen Kit ($45).

Yes, you read that correctly. The three glosses in the limited edition holiday set are almost as comfortable as stretchy pants. 🙂 And they’re some of the most delightful lip products I’ve ever worn.

The colors in the kit lean toward the warm end the color spectrum, like Ignite, a golden peachy pink; Siren, a shimmery reddish copper; and Child, a pale warm pink.

Are you familiar with NARS Sweet Revenge, MAC Nymphette and/or MAC Lychee Luxe? If you like any of them, I think you might also like these.

Like the other Extreme Sheens I’ve worn, these feel divine on my lips with a smooth, thin, non-sticky texture, and since they smell faintly of cupcakes, I pretend like I have frosting on my lips when I’ve got them on (they’re flavor-free, though).

They’re also mad moisturizing! If I put ’em on when my lips feel dry when I get up in the morning, my lips really do look and feel better by the end of the day, almost like a healing lip balm.

Wear time varies among the shades. The darkest one, Siren, lasts from 4-6 hours with very little fading, while the lighter colors, Child and Ignite, last between 2 hours and 4.

You may have noticed that these glosses aren’t packaged exactly like the older (as in last summer) Extreme Sheens. Those came in cylindrical tubes, but Hourglass recently introduced some new packaging.

I guess the most important thing is that we’re not getting any less product. The glosses in the set still contain the same 0.12 ounces as before.

Hourglass usually charges $28 for their 0.12-oz. tubes; at $45 for the set, they break down to $15 apiece, so that’s a pretty great deal. 🙂

Sometimes Sephora discounts products with older packaging when brands release new packaging, so I’ll check the sale section of their website a few times/week. You never know, right? If you ever find deals like that, please let me know, and I’ll do the same.

I think these glosses are great, but if I could change anything about them, I’d change the brush. I’m more of a doe-foot applicator girl.

If you’re looking for blinding shine and pigment in a moisturizing gloss (and you like the way you look in warm shades), take a gander at this Extreme Sheen set.

Great job, Hourglass!

PRICE: $45

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Good morning, and happy hump day, young lady. I’m looking for a new book to read, and I’m wondering if you’ve read Beautiful Creatures. A friend of mind said it was good. Isn’t there also a movie by the same name?

P.P.S. Now, on to bigger news, like the winner of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month Sign Project and Giveaway.

Drum roll please… Katie! Congratulations, you’re the winner of $400 in makeup from MAC and Chanel.

And if you entered but didn’t win, I hope you don’t feel bad because you did a wonderful thing. If someone out there who happened to be going through a tough time came across your support sign on Facebook, on your website or here on the blog, it might just give them a little extra strength to persevere. 🙂

Don’t feel bad about eating too many 100 Grands — I always buy on-sale candy Nov. 1, so I’ve been gorging for a couple of days now.

Congrats to Katie for winning! Side note: November is National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. Though this one really hits home (a close relative died after suffering with Alzheimer’s for several years), I wish there were enough months in the year to raise awareness for all the terrible diseases we have to face. Karen, thanks for the awareness you raised last month for breast cancer.

Aww, thanks Karen. It’s just sad to see someone decline from being a brilliant high school math teacher to not knowing his relatives’ names.

On to a lighter subject: Do you think the Hourglass glosses are worth the price tag? $45 seems like a lot to drop on three glosses for a drugstore diva like me. 🙂

I watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie few months ago and wasn’t mentally prepared for it — the brutal scenes were quite traumatic. 🙁 I’ve heard that the entire trilogy is really good, though.

      Hi Fieran,

Not gonna lie — I totally had to look up “ikat print.” Hey, at least I learned something new today!

Definitely put Hourglass on your makeup lust list when you visit SF! I’m pretty sure the the Union Square Sephora store carries the line (although that store makes me INSANE… I prefer the one in the Marina).

The only reason I know the name of the print is ‘coz I drooled over an ikat scarf for ages but never bought it. I still think about it though – like a long lost love.

Hmm, I think the bf goes to Union Square Sephora on all of his trips to SF 😉 because I always give him a list. I’ll have a look at it anyway. Love big stores and malls…*happy sigh*

I’m leaving in a few for the airport. Have a good week ahead Karen and I hope you _don’t_ fall sick.
