On Your Mark…Get Set…Save! Flower Beauty’s Long-Lasting On Your Mark Liquid Eye Liner Delivers a Dior-Like Look for $7

April 10th, 2013 by Karen 22 Comments

Flower Beauty On Your Mark Liquid Eye Liner
Makeup lovers, on your mark… Get set… GO! “Here I’m wearing Flower Beauty On Your Mark Liquid Eye Liner in Black ($7) on my upper lash lines!!”

Yea! Great product name! 🙂

But I feel like Flower Beauty should have added an ellipses at the end of their new $7 On Your Mark Liquid Eye Liner, because that’s how I say it in my head.

“On your mark…”

With the pause at the end. LOL!

I’ve been all about liquid liners with shiny finishes lately — liners like the $30 Diorshow Art Pen, which might as well be Velcroed to my hand — paired with some of this season’s raddest lipsticks from Buxom, NARS, Laura Mercier, MAC and Milani.

Some products just seem so right together, don’t they? That’s how I feel about liquid liner and lipstick. They’re a classic pairing, like scrunchies and side ponytails, or Katniss and Peeta (which reminds me, The Hunger Games is now available on Netflix, holla!).

Unfortunately, the Diorshow Art Pen costs three hamiltons (which doesn’t flow off the tongue as well as “benjamins”), so I’ve been looking for a drugstore alternative that lasts just as long and is just as easy to apply.

I think I may have found it, too, in Flower Beauty’s water-resistant On Your Mark Liquid Eye Liner, which has a flexible felt tip that lays down lines just as smoothly as the Art Pen from Dior.

So long-lasting (12 hours)! So perspiration-proof (I ran 3 miles with it on, and it didn’t even budge)! So affordable at just $7!

I haven’t been able to keep my hands off it, and I think my Dior liner’s even getting a little jealous…

On Your Mark comes in a Brown shade. The one in Black — the one I’ve been wearing — is a true black without any hints of blue or green. Its wet pavement-like shine springs to life on my lids and keeps my eye makeup from looking too autumnal/fall.

I plan to wear it a lot this spring and summer with this season’s new lipsticks, and maybe even with some false lashes when I have the time.

I feel very modern Mad Men when I have it on…except with far fewer vodka tonics and girdles.

PRICE: $7
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Walmart stores and walmart.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (more colors, please!)

This is probably going to sound totally cat lady crazy, but Tabs is actually perched on my right shoulder as I type this — which is difficult, by the way, as he weighs about 20 pounds now — and he’s purring up a storm.

I’ve been thinking about recording all of his cute cat noises into my computer — his meows, chirps and purrs — and saving them for posterity.

Extra grumpy tabby!

Uh…did that sound as crazy on your end of the monitor as it just did on mine?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love the look you created. I will have to force my hubby to take me to the Evil Empire aka Walmart. What eyeshadows are you wearing? Mac in Extra Dimension?

I can imagine Tabs sitting on your shoulder, lol. And you should totally record him!

      Hi Agata,

I’m wearing the new Sonia Kashuk Moroccan Dunes palette. 🙂

Oh, when Tabs is on my shoulder it’s so cute and awkward. He’s really funny in that he only likes to perch on the right shoulder. He HATES the left one. 🙂

How would this compare to Kat Von D’s liquid liner pen?

      Hi Lauren,

I haven’t tried that one yet so I really can’t compare. Can anybody else weigh in?

This looks great! I really like the packaging of this one. It looks a lot nicer to me than some of the other Flower products I’ve seen which–no offense–look a bit cheap to me. This is simple and nice!

      Hey Becca,

If you’re a stickler for packaging, then FYI, this one starts to look a little beat up after a while. The writing on the side of mine’s wearing off.

Recording Tabs’ various sounds for posterity? DO IT, girl! If you’re looking for someone who would think that’s cray cray and try to talk you out of it, you’re definitely meowing up the wrong scratching post!

Wow, this sounds great! I wonder how long it stays “as good as new.” I liked Palladio’s and Ulta Brand’s felt tip eyeliners, but they seemed to lose quality pretty quickly (like after a few week’s use) and they fade a bit throughout the day. I love Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner and Lorac’s Front of the Line Pro liner, but they aren’t the cheapest at $20+. I’ll have to check this one out soon! Thanks for the heads up! 🙂

      Hi Katherine,

Good to know about the Palladio and Ulta felt tip liners!

I’ve been using mine for about two weeks now and it’s been ok. The packaging’s starting to look a little beat up, but the felt tip itself has held up well.

I don’t know why I’m so scared of liquid liner! I need to just jump into the cold water and give it a try sometime. I need some more beauty junkie friends because so many of mine are minimal makeup gals. Do you ever find that you tailor your makeup level to whoever you’re spending time with? Hubs likes when I wear a lot of eye makeup but sometimes I feel overdone when we hang out with our laid-back Colorado friends.

      Hi Leah,

You’ve gotta try it! Here’s what I like to do: I keep a liner in the bathroom to practice with. Just before I wash my face, I do a quick practice swipe. 🙂

Re: your question about makeup, I do that sometimes. I tend to tailor makeup more toward the event/venue. Like if we’re going to brunch I try to refrain from Beyonce-ing it out (it takes a lot of restraint, hahaha!).

Is this giving Front of the Line a run for it’s money? Is that even possible? HAHA!

I think it would be great for you to record Tabs. My friend had a cat who would chirp and hop sideways down the hall. It was the funniest thing and we loved it. No one could figure out why or when he’d do it next so it was a real treat. I’m sure if we’d caught him on video (which would have been a big *ss VHS camcorder at the time!), it would still bring us joy. 🙂

Your friend’s kitty sounds like he was character. Cats are SO weird!

I kind of LOVE that you love Front of the Line just as much as I do. I’d seriously revolt if they ever discontinued it.

Fritz – he was awesome. A totally spazzy, gray tiger who was always small/thin for his age so he always looked more like a kitten than a grown up cat. 🙂

I really do! I don’t wear it all that often because you know I’m married to my brown liner/everyday look, but it’s my go-to for an evening outing. And I know this is boring but can I ask you for a rec on a brown UD 24/7 liner? I like Whiskey a lot but it’s just a bit too “tan”. I’d like something a touch darker. Corrupt, maybe? I’m relying on my computer monitor for color. 🙁

Thank you! I was looking at Bourbon, too (online). I think I’ll get both and let you know. On a side note, I’m sporting Front of the Line today. Our thread yesterday inspired me. 🙂

It’s a really cool shade and is my FAVORITE out of all the 24/7s. In the summer I wear it all the time with browns, teals and golds.

And rock on with your Front of the Line pro! I hope you did a mean cat eye flick. 😀

I wish Flower was sold in other stores. I don’t normally go to Walmart and the one near me isn’t near anything – so it’s not like I even pass by it haha.

Flower products score a big A+ for me because they don’t test on animals and they’re made in the USA! I’m glad to know the eyeliner stays on so well and will have to try the brown shade. I’ll actually be in Walmart tomorrow to pick up kitty litter, so will check out Flower stuff while I’m there, too. And, from one crazy cat lady to another, YES, absolutely record the little sounds Tabs makes!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
