China Glaze Text in Colour 2BHOT: Holographic Hotness

May 6th, 2008 by Karen 27 Comments

Have you seen China Glaze’s OMG Text in Colour nail polish collection yet? OMG, these colors are GR8, QT!

The full collection first landed back in February, and I’ve been meaning to talk about it for a while. China Glaze released the collection as two sets, 2BHOT and 2BKEWL, with six colors each. 2BHOT carried the warmer shades; 2BKEWL the cooler ones. To describe the colors, China Glaze used a term I hadn’t heard used to describe makeup before: holographic. And it’s not just marketing nonsense, either. The polishes contain the tiniest little flecks of multi-colored glitter, and they do seem to change color (silver to green to red, for example) depending on the angle you look at them from.

I finally got around to swatching and photographing the six 2BHOT colors yesterday. Unfortunately, since their release the colors have become pretty hard to find, but you can still purchase all of them individually from Amazon for $4.20 (shipping extra) each.

The 2BHOT shades…

  • QT (Cutie) – holographic magenta-purple
  • TMI (Too much information) – holographic rose red
  • TTYL (Talk to you later) – holographic peachy-pink
  • FYI (For your information) – holographic beige with silver, blue and green
  • GR8 (Great) – holographic yellow
  • L8R G8R (Later gator) – holographic light green

QT

TMI

TTYL

FYI

GR8

L8R G8R

The 2BHOT colors are a bit flashier/more club kid than my usual pink, peach, and coral nail color choices, but I really like them. The funky way the colors seem to change in the light adds another dimension to these polishes that makes them a lot of fun. It’s weird — I never wear green nail polish, but, surprisingly, 2BHOT’s green (L8R G8R), is my favorite 2BHOT shade of the bunch.

The consistency of China Glaze reminds me of Shu Uemura and Laura Mercier nail polishes. It dries fast and applies thin. Befitting the name, the formula contains actual China clay as a hardener.

For the record, these polishes are toluene- and formaldehyde-free, and the individual bottles list for about $6.50 through retail channels nationwide (when you can find them).

To find a China Glaze retailer near you, check out their website and shoot them an email. They can’t be out of stock everywhere.

Random Makeup and Beauty Blog Fun Fact: I have a weird obsession with fine china. I don’t currently own any, but that hasn’t stopped me from spending hours looking at patterns. My favorite right now is Pompano Point, by Kate Spade.

So do you like the colors from the China Glaze Text in Colour collection? China Glaze certainly didn’t rest on their laurels after Text in Colour. INK, their newest collection, goes all out with bright neon shades and tattoo-inspired nail decals.

Last night I had to skip dance class because I brought some work home with me, pooh. But after dinner I did manage to treat myself to an hour of mind-numbing “reality” television by way of The Hills and The Paper. I’ve never belonged to TEAM AUDRINA before, but I felt bad for her in last night’s episode.

First, she endured Lo’s rude text messaging…

And then Lo and Lauren shut her out of the puppy adoption process!

Hang in there, Audrina! Everybody hurts … sometimes!

What kind of day did you have? I hope you weren’t as busy as I was.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love those colors!! Sally Hanson has some similar nail polishes. The two that I have look identical to TTYL and FYI. And can I just say I feel silly typing the names?haha

Had my last two finals today and just have to finish up my Unit Plan and then I’m done until the fall!

I recently bought Laura Gellar Bronze N’ Brighten and then Balance N’ Brighten and I have to say I really love them. Have you ever tried them? I haven’t used anything else in her line… but the bronze is really nice and doesn’t look fake. I’m going to try very hard this summer not to get in the sun!haha

    Hi Bridget!

I felt kinda silly writing typing the names out, too, when I wrote this post.

GIRL! Good for you that you finished your finals, WOOTY WOOT WOOT! Don’t you feel like a weight’s lifted off your shoulders? Now you should reward yourself… with some makeup. J/K! Well, kinda!

I have heard good things about Laura Gellar’s bronzers. I haven’t gotten around to trying it because for some reason the packaging doesn’t speak to me (lame, I know, but so true). But if a product’s good I’m up for trying it. Hopefully I can go to sephora this Friday or next; I have a few killer deadlines coming up and of course I will need to procrastinate, ha ha ha!

    Hi JaxXx,

I know! I always really liked Lo, too, because she didn’t seem the type to be mean or catty. She was very rude to Audrina though… not cool!

Girlfriend, if I had a dollar for every time I hung out at Serramonte I’d be a rich woman! Thanks for the heads up… I might stop by because El Hub is in desperate need of some of that awesome shaving cream you guys have. Plus, I could always use a Body Butter or FIVE!

Ooh! I picked up OMG in my last Head2Toe Beauty order (www.head2toebeauty.com — they still have the majority of them, but OMG is now sold out!) and I haven’t tried it yet — I’ve been buying so many awesome nail polishes lately that I don’t know when I’m going to get to play with it!

And yes, yesterday was super-busy, and so will today (and the rest of May!) be. But it’s okay! I’ll sleep in June!

    Hi Jenny,

Thanks girl! They are very fun colors. Do you every wear really crazy shades like green or yellow?

Yes, I feel the same exact way about Audrina. While I don’t care for her taste in men (Justin Bobby? Ewww!), I think Lo was really being mean to her yesterday and Audrina totally didn’t deserve it.

    Hi Mariah,

Yah girl, I did! I like the Lo and the Elodie shade, but may have to cave and get ’em all. OY!

Remember the innocent days of Laguna Beach (Seasons 1 and 2). Ahhh, the memories.

    Hi Lindsay,

I agree. I didn’t know that Lo had it in her, either. I think I still have the person she was in Laguna Beach still ingrained in my head though.

    Hi Ilovecheese,

Yah! L8R G8R is pretty hot for a green nail polish! Thanks for the complements on the claws. I need to file them down; they’re getting a lil’ too long and slowing down my typing speed, HA!

Hope you’re having a good week so far! Anything new with you?

    Hi Megan,

I know! I’m going to just have to start painting my nails and toes all sorts of crazy colors on a daily basis. For the longest time I ignored my nails, too. Now I’m addicted to painting them again!

Ladies, if you are loooking for these polishes, then check out 8ty8 Beauty (www.8ty8beauty.com/nail_polishes/cg.htm). I usually order my OPI and China Glaze from them as the price is good and it’s not easy to find China Glaze in Toronto. They still have the cool colours (DV8,LOL,BFF,IDK,2NITE & OMG) and the warm colours for $3.38 and they also have the Wireless Holographic Top Coat for $3.88. I haven’t used it but it’s supposed to give the holographic look to any nail polish.

    Hi Meaghan,

Yah, I dunno what’s going on with LC. I think she’s aware of the tension and have no clue why she doesn’t want to say anything about it.

On a completely unrelated note, have you noticed how Heidi obsessively flips her hair in every scene? It drives me CRAAAAAZY!

    Hi Dao,

I take it you’re a reds girl! Thanks for the link, I saw it earlier this morning! It all looks pretty but I swear I can’t even think about Holiday right now… I want summer to start already, cause that’s my favorite season of the year.
