Laura Mercier Nail Lacquer 24 Karat: A Post-Movie Manicure!

March 30th, 2008 by Karen 23 Comments

Laura Mercier Nail Lacquer 24 Karat

After getting home from the movies a little while ago, (Stop Loss, starring Ryan Phillipe and Channing Tatum, yum… but more on that later!), I had the irresistible urge to paint my nails gold, so I grabbed Laura Mercier’s Nail Lacquer in 24 Karat, part of Laura’s just-released Gold Digger collection.

As ya’ll know, there are many different shades of gold, and this one looks nothing like the Shu Uemura Gold Beige I painted my nails with a few weeks ago. It’s shinier and yellower than Shu’s shade and contains glittery golden flecks for extra sparkle.

This is only the second brand of high-end nail polish I’ve used, and like the other one, which was Shu’s, it dries much faster than polishes from either Sally Hansen or Revlon. The longer a polish takes to dry, the greater the likelihood that I’ll do something to mess it up.

The nails pictured here took me three coats to achieve. It was my first time using a Laura Mercier nail polish, and I’m hoping the formula doesn’t chip right away. I’ll let ya know if it does.

How was the rest of your weekend? I’m feeling so much better today than I felt yesterday, and part of the reason is all of the kind words from you guys, so thanks homies. 🙂 El Hub did his part to cheer me up by taking me out on a movie date this afternoon.

When I’m feeling blue, nothing (except makeup) can cheer me up quicker than a chick flick can, so El Hub was a little surprised when I said that I wanted to watch Stop Loss. It’s not exactly standard issue chick material, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and, um, the Ryan/Channing combo up on the big screen sure didn’t hurt my eyes!

Woot, if there’s any reason to watch that movie its cuz of the hotties. Hope they take off their clothes for no apparent reason plenty of times.

Rauw! Ryan Philippe and Channing Tattum barely clothed all in one movie. No wonder you enjoyed yourself 😉 And now with goddess-gold nails your mood will go up up up 🙂

Karen, I’m glad you’re feeling better. Again, you should be a nail model. Your nails are so beautiful. Channing and Ryan, hotness indeed! But they said that movie didn’t do so well in the theater? Probably after your post it will do better 😉

Karen…so how excited am I that my local CVS (with the aforementioned discount) is now carrying Borghese and OPI nail polish as well as my faves Seche Vite and Nailtiques formula 2? I went to CVS last night and I picked up a Borghese polish. I usually use OPI and haven’t really branched out into high end nail polish. I have been tempted by some of the NARS shades though…I think that might be the brand to get me. I don’t think I can rock the gold like that though. something about it being winterish and me still looking like a very pale white girl… I don’t know if I can pull that off. right now my toes are Fushchia though. I can rock brights all day long.

    Hi Karen!

Pretty gold! I’ve been into the Sephora nail polishes lately. Their color selection isn’t the be-all, but getting a little bottle for $4 to try out is right up my sample-happy alley! 🙂

I tried commenting earlier this morning, but my fingers wouldn’t move right, so I had to wait a while for manual dexterity to kick in! LOL!

    Hi Karen B,

Yup! And the movie shows ’em both in uniform too, which was SUPER HOT! Although, the hottest uniforms IMHO are the SWAT ones, I dunno why… maybe it’s the all black look!

    Hi Dao,

Hmm, I dunno how much $ it actually made, but I went with the percentage of reviews on Rottentomatoes.com! It got a 63%, which usually means it can be hit or miss. But it was good! In additional to the hotness (holla), the characters were believable and the story wasn’t as MTV-ified as I thought it would be.

Anyway, did you paint your nails this week yet?

    Hi Megan,

You’ll have to tell me if you ever rock the Borghese polish. The line is being reintroduced to several stores and I have yet to try any of their color/nail stuff.

I have a feeling NARS is gonna get me, too. It won’t be long…

Fuschia sounds HOT! What shade are you wearing on your toes? I haven’t gone into full blown color mode but as the weather gets warmer I have a feeling that I’ll want to wear the hot pinks, corals, etc.

    Hi Glosslizard,

Oh, cool! I haven’t tried their polishes yet… I’ve been bitter for the longest time about the reformulation of their eye makeup remover (I guess I’m still bitter ’cause it’s been over a year and I’m still b*tching about it) and that made me hesitant to try any of their in-house brand stuff. But I’m starting to once again be more open to the line, because I got these smokey eye brushes a few months ago and they actually ended up being pretty great! What shades do you have and like?

Right now I’m rocking an OPI color – I think it’s called Jewel of India. It’s a bright fuschia. I bought the Borghese in LaStrada rose…which is a pretty brownish pink. I’ll let you know how it does once i give it a try.

I have #51 (a pale lavender shimmer) and just got #43 (a bright raspberry with a gold shimmer). I’m so incredibly picky about nail polish color, I can walk into a full-size Opi display and walk away empty-handed because nothing is *exactly* like what I have in mind! That’s why I really love the commitment-free size and the el cheapo price! 😉 Quality seems decent, neither astonishingly good or horribly bad!

    Hi Megan,

Oh, can’t wait! I hope it lasts a long time. I am on Day 2 of my LM manicure and so far chipping is minimal, even without the SV. What does Nailtiques formula 2 do, btw? I have a few products and so far I like their nail lotion (can’t remember the name right now!).

    Hi Glosslizard,

Oh, #43 sounds pretty. I will have to do “research” on that one very soon.

The smaller bottles are a great idea. When I think about it, I’ve never actually finished a bottle of polish.

I do like #43, but it comes out a bit more coral-rose on my fingertips somehow! Very pretty, just not as raspberry as I’d intended! And, yeah, I’ve never finished a bottle of polish either!

It sounds perfect for me if there’s coral up in the mix.

I have a ton of old bottles polish that just pile up. I have a hard time throwing them out even though they’re all thick and crusty (gross I know, but true)! Mini sizes should be standard for those who can’t always make a polish commitment to one color!

The nailtiques # 2 is like a protein or strengthener. It helps keep your nails from peeling, breaking etc. It works really well when I rememeber to keep up with it.

    Hi Megan,

I’ll have to look into that. When mine get long they tend to peel… which reminds me, gotta do another manicure! 🙂

I hear that, Glosslizard. I really need to clean mine out because it’s full of half-used colors that are way to thick to use! Eeeek!

My girlfriend really dug the movie for the hot guys.. but I think it actually had a decent message too. Not a bad movie at all!
