I’ve recently come to the following conclusion:
Five-minute makeup is bullsh*t.
Rather, it is if you (correction, I) want to do more than tinted moisturizer, brows, mascara and a nude lip.
I mean, I do five-minute makeup looks all the time. I like ’em. They’re easy, convenient… Well, those are their main selling points, but they aren’t really that much fun, because it’s just not enough time to do more than the basics.
And sometimes I want to have fun! — and I have more swag when I’m feeling my makeup, and when I have more swag, Beyoncé better watch out.
Therefore, in the pursuit of swag…seven-minute makeup is where it’s at.
It’s the sweet spot for me. It’s just enough time to go a little extra (with liner, blush, what have you), but it’s still lazy girl doable.
So, here was my seven-minute makeup look today. I did it using some new products from the MAC in Monochrome collection, but there’s also some Hourglass up in the mix. Everything is listed below in the order applied. If you have any questions, you know where to find me. 😀

Products used
- Urban Decay Brow Blade in Dark Drapes
- Hourglass Vanish Seamless Liquid Foundation in Beige
- Hourglass Veil Retouching Fluid in Sand
- It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara
- MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder in Golden Tan
- MAC Coffee Eyeliner
- MAC Soft Teddy Eyeshadow
- MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick
- MAC Sur Blush
Some quick thoughts…
- Hourglass Vanish Seamless Liquid Foundation in Beige: This is VERY concentrated, and I only needed half a pump.
- Urban Decay Brow Blade in Dark Drapes: This has such a natural ink stain, and it lasts all day long.
- Hourglass Veil Retouching Fluid in Sand: I only felt so-so about this when it came out, but I’m into it now because I like sheer coverage like the kind I get from this under my eyes.
- MAC Soft Teddy Eyeshadow: B-u-t-t-e-r.
- MAC Sur Powder Blush: You NEED this in your life.
You’re so welcome
Yes, that’s Weezer doing a cover of TLC’s No Scrubs, and yes, it’s surprisingly legit! They didn’t change a word of the song, which I think is awesome!
They have a new album of cover songs (I’m guessing that their success with the cover of Toto’s Africa has something to do with it), and my faves are No Scrubs and Everybody Wants to Rule the World.
Yeah, I didn’t think I’d ever like a version of this song as much as the original, but this one’s good, too!
You know what’s weird to me? — that there are people out there who don’t remember the originals of these songs.
Yup!

Hey Karen! Love love love this look!! So pretty! I asked on insta but I’m going to ask here too. Technique for using the Hourglass foundation? I got a sample size and am having the hardesttt time figuring out how to make it work. Also thank you for the Hourglass lip stylo recommendation, am loving my new one so so much!
Hi Jade,
Thank you! I can see how this foundation might be challenging because it’s super concentrated. So far I’ve tried two different application methods. The first is applying a drop or two to the back of my hand, and then pressing the foundation into my skin with fingers, and then buffing off the excess immediately with a dense face brush/kabuki brush. I then keep reapplying in layers until I get the coverage I want. The second is applying half a pump (which is the recommended application amount that I read in some press info), applying directly onto the skin by smoothing over with fingers, and then buffing off excess. Even though the first method takes a little longer I prefer it, because the foundation seems to dry fast, and when I do the second method with half a pump, I spend more time blending it out. Does that make sense? How have you been applying it?
P.S. Glad you are liking the Lip Stylo. What color did you get?
I’ve been putting some on the back of my hand, picking it up with my fingers and dabbing it on my skin (more like dots not spreading it around) then blending (or trying to) with my beauty blender. I somehow got no coverage on my nose and little coverage on my chin and cheeks (my reddest areas). Then in the nose corner area it just kind of slipped away. I might try it with my normal semi mattifying primer tomorrow and see how it goes using your technique and with my face brush from RT.
I got the Peacemaker shade and love it! Explorer is saved for spring and Dreamer is currently in my shopping cart. I feel so fancy using them because of the packaging. Honestly I’ll probably also be purchasing the lip oil when a VIB sale rolls around.
I love this song…and I definitely remember the original. 🙂 I almost think the Weezer version is TOO similar to the original. They could have put more of their own stamp on it, IMHO…they have a fantastic, unique style and it just doesn’t come through as much as I’d like. Still love it though! Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome, Amy! Glad you enjoyed it.
The MAC in Monochrome Velvet Teddy collection is sooo beaut! I just got my hands on the shadows too 😍😍.
Hi Erica,
They’re really great, aren’t they? Did you get the chance to try the blush yet? It’s beautiful too!
People that dont remember the original songs – there seems to be a growing number of them! Makes me feel old on bad days and priviledged on good days.

You’re welcome!
I love your look in this blog. I actually purchased my first two MAC shadows ever this month (Brule & Brun). I needed to replace the shadows in my Clair Obscur quad and since my local Lord & Taylor no longer sells NARS, I went to Ulta. They didn’t have what I wanted in stock, but they had a handful of MAC shadows up front. While my local Ulta doesn’t have much MAC products, I was told that a new store is opening up near me. We shall see. So far, I like Brun for my brows since it’s greyer than the dark brown innthe Chanel quad.
Brutally cold here out East but keeping warm!
This is lovely – you definitely took advantage of those extra 2 minutes – especially when I just read about your foundation application method. You’re speedy!! 🙂 I love Weezer; I’ll have to check out No Scrubs. I found their cover of Africa to be almost exactly like the original as well.
Your skin looks great here! Brows look amazing too!
this cannot be 7 mins? it is so pretty and polished! I love the look and I love that lippy!
Yes! When I skip primer, use one eyeshadow and am not super precise about blending it cuts out a lot of time. Seven minutes on the dot. 🙂
I love that It Cosmetics mascara! Normally I just opt for drugstore mascara, but that’s the first high-end one that I think is totally worth the money.
First, MAC needs to make Soft Teddy and Sur permanent. I’m obsessed with both!
I cannot do a 5 minute look but I can do a 10-12 minute face that consists of foundation, concealer, powder, mascara, eyeliner , blush and eyeshadow. Just got to plan the night before!
