Pretty sure I mentioned this the other day, but yeah, my lids are getting progressively more hooded every day. I think it’s just a getting older thing, but now I appreciate long-lasting liners like the MAC Liquidlasts THAT MUCH MORE, because if you’ve got a hooded lid situation, finding a liner that doesn’t transfer up into your crease can be harder than finding a chupacabra unicorn.
Enter the MAC Liquidlast Liners. They’re long-lasting and water-resistant.

A bunch of them that just landed on MAC counters and the MAC website ($21 each), but you might remember them from back in the day. The Liquidlast Liners used to be part of the permanent collection. Then they went away, but now they’re back in nine shades, most of which are permanent.
The only LE colors are matte purple Rich & Robust, which I friggin’ love (GAH!) and shiny teal Blue Me Over.

To someone just passing by a MAC counter, they look a little like lip glosses, at least until you open them up and see the skinny, fine-tipped brush.
That brush, though? T-r-i-c-k-y to use.

The first time I used these years and years ago, I wan’t crazy about ’em because of the brush, but now I think I just didn’t know how to use it. I think I might know how now.
What I wasn’t doing then was unloading the brush enough before bringing it to my lids. Now I run the brush against the inside of the lip of the tube a bunch of times to get rid of the excess.

After that, I pull out my trusty magnifying mirror (this one from Tweezerman) so I can see exactly what I’m doing, and I hold the brush parallel to my lash line. Then I press it once against my skin, move it over a little bit, press it down again, move it over, etc., and I keep doing that until I make my way all the way across my lash line. (I usually start from the inner part and move to the other part.)
This way I get a really thin, crisp, clean line without any wobbly edges.
My favorite shade at the moment is Rich & Robust, a pigmented matte purple that I really like with my brown eyes, but I bet it looks just as good with blue eyes, green eyes and hazel eyes, too.
The Liquidlasts dry quickly (30 seconds), so you better move fast. The flip side of this is that you won’t be sitting there with your eye closed while you wait for your liner to dry.

They’re water-resistant and rub-resistant (not that I ever rub at my eyes. Nope. Never!), so you’ll need an oil-based remover to take them off. I use the Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover, which works great for me.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

I remember these! And I remember not liking them because of the applicator, but your method sounds like it would work.
Omg these were my JAM! I always used to stick with black but after seeing your swatch am actually super interested in Naked Bond! Would amp up any nude makeup look! xxx
The Liquidlast liner in Point Black (which they never discontinued) has been my go to eye liner for the past decade! I love it! Lasts all day and never smears or flakes off. Maybe because I’ve been using it almost everyday my entire adulthood, but the brush doesn’t bother me at all! I also have the Blacktrack fluid line, which to me, is trickier to use, not waterproof, and does not last as long at all.
are these still ridiculously difficult to remove ? i posted to a dancer forum years ago and got hilarious suggestions on how to remove, including, e.g., using paint thinner, scraping off with fingernail, you get the idea… O_o
Hi Christine,
I don’t have an issue as long as I use an oil-based remover designed for the long-wearing/heavy duty stuff.:)
What nail polish are you wearing?
Hi Kristen,
I’m wearing Essie Beauty Nap.
I love the color! I just ordered the spring collection from KL Polish and they have a similar minty/aqua shade.
I think I had one of these, a golden shade? It was way back though, I can’t even remember if I liked them.

I love the entire look! What else are you wearing- eyes, skin, cheeks, lips? I have the regular black one, truely waterproof! Its both hot and humid and it stood up for carnival!
Yay, I’m very stoked to see they brought back some colors! I’ve been stuck with black forever, and I’m not a fan of just black. But this is the only liquid liner I use, as it’s the only one that stays put on me! The formula is freaking amazing. I do loathe the brush applicator tho … It is a pita to line my eyes. And I’m an expert with liquid liner, been using it no prob for 20 years. For me, it gets on my eyelashes and it splashes onto my lid, if that makes sense. It’s weird. I’ve never had another liner do that. That which does not a straight, smooth line create. Grrr. But I suffer through it for the sake of the formula lol. Like you do, I wipe so much off of the applicator first and am so careful with application.
