MAC’s highly anticipated collaboration with designer Emanuel Ungaro arrived on counters nationwide today, and it reminds me of stargazer lilies — like a dreamy watercolor painting, with pops of bright but sheer magenta accenting its palette of soft pastels.
As a collection, Emanuel Ungaro is delicate, feminine and youthful, like dewy morning flowers and gossamer gowns. I’d say it’s more youthful than both Cremesheen and Cult of Cherry.
The entire MAC Emanuel Ungaro collection includes…

First Impressions
My early favorites have been the eye shadows, the two Cream Colour Bases and the See Thru Lip Colour in Not So Shy!
The Eye Shadows
I think the sheer finish of Mineral, Lilac Touch and Soft Flower contrasts nicely with Phloof!, the only shimmery shade, but all of the shades look like they’ll work well together to create lots of soft, pretty eye looks. MAC should’ve totally rolled out these four shades in a quad, le sigh!
The Cream Color Bases
Both of the Cream Color Bases — Crushed Bougainvillea and Fresh Morning — kinda took my breath away. I just love cream blushes, and I can think of lots of potential looks for Crushed Bougainvillea, like maybe using Fresh Morning to highlight along the upper cheeks, down the bridge of the nose and on the temples for a dewy, fresh shimmer.
The See Thru Lip Colour
The See Thru Lip Colour in Not So Shy! has a thinner consistency than Lipglasses do and applies like a bright wash of magenta, and judging by how long the swatch lasted on my arm (eight hours), it has good staying power, too. I would wear pair it with a neutral cat eye using a thick, black liner and very light pink cheeks.
The Lipsticks, Lipglass and Beauty Powder
While I like the lipsticks, the Beauty Powder and the Lipglass, I think the shades are a little too sheer for my skin tone, but pale beauties will want to check ’em out, fo sho!
I can’t wait to see what people do with the Ungaro collection. I’m a fan, but I’d love to hear some of your ideas on how I might work the light lip shades.
Today was a such a loooong day for me. Work kicked my butt and I’m really tired. Good thing tomorrow’s Friday, huzzah!
Hope you had a lovely day today. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I have the eyeshadows, beauty powder, lipsticks, lipgloss and Fresh Morning CCB on hold to be picked up tomorrow. Originally I was going to get it all but I’m not so sure… Crushed Bougainvillea looks so pretty but I am super pale and am afraid I’d look like a goofball if I wore this. I’m not a huge fan of the whole, “hey look at how much blush I have on!” look 🙂 Did Not So Shy! seem really similar to Benetint when you tried? I was super excited about this collection but now I’m all sorts of confused 🙁

I got Pure Rose and Not So Shy! Since I was still mad at MAC for not issuing the paint pot, I didn’t get anything else. I may have a way to work the light lipstick color but I need to have it first 🙂 Then of course I’ll let you know 😉

I think Freckletone looks really pretty, and I also like Soft Flower! Amethyst liner sounds interesting as well. I bought a dark blue liner not so long ago and excited to try it – then it turned out that it was super waterproof and could not be smudged at all… Also it tugged a bit on my lid… (I think it was L’Oreal) I might check out Amethyst as a replacement. I really into dark blues and purple for fall! Thanks for the reviews! 🙂

I wasnt really into this collection when i first heard about it but Crushed Bougainvillea and the lipstain look gorgeous! Thanks for review Karen.

Hi Karen. That is my favourite flower. Is it called Oriental Lily too? I have to see this collection before I can really decide which I want. So far, I like Crushed Bougainvillea.

as much as i gave up on mac a while ago the not so shy looks HOT!
i might have to peruse this collection further lol

Ooh! I’m irritated that MAC backed out of the paint pot too! I’m not big on light and pastel shades in general, but I need to check out soft flower, I’ve been needing a coral shade (as long as it’s not too sheer)!
Overall I have to agree with those who have said that this would have been a great Spring release, and I’m still currently enamored of all the amazing bold Fall shades that are out right now! Gimme gimme smoky eyes and plum lips! 🙂

Crushed Bougainvillea it’s so beautiful!!
I think you could totally rock it, Karen 😀 it does a very pretty contrast with your skin. Hope it fits my fair-medium skintone as well because I think I really need it! 😛
Hugs!

This is a very feminine, pretty collection. I haven’t checked it out yet – but I don’t know if I’m going to pick up anything from it.
I did, however, make a trip to Macy’s during lunch yesterday and I got the Chanel smokey eye quad! I am sporting it today – I really love it. I agree, it’s so easy to use. I used a BB cream shadow in black pearl as a base and built onto it from there.

I heard the shadows were really sheer. I think I want Mineral, Lilac Touch, the CCB’s and Pure Rose. I’m NC 30/35 but I have a strange attraction to pale lipsticks – I’ll see if I can make it work.
Evie says
I’m not super excited about this collection, honestly, but I’m also not really in to soft pink and brown makeup looks. It’s apparently the default palette for people with my coloring and I get really bored with every makeup professional ever trying to cover me in soft pinks and browns, so…yeah. Pretty colors, but I’ll hold out for the next collection 🙂
Karen says
Hi Meaghan,
It reminded me a bit more of Stila’s Cherry Crush because of the consistency. I think that I like this. It doesn’t jump at me like Cult of Cherry did, but I’m still digging the textures and the sheerness.
Karen says
Hi Dao,
🙂 How are you liking your Not So Shy?
Karen says
Hi Karen Too,
I like smudgy liners, too. Have you tried Lancome’s Le Stylo? You can smudge it, but at the same time it’s still waterproof. But if you like uber-smudgy MAC Eye Kohls are great.
I am testing the Stila Kohl’s right now, and they’re also pretty smudgy, too.
Karen says
Hi Ziggy_medusa,
You’re welcome! Lemme know if you end up haulin’!
Karen says
Hi Miss QQ,
I love all types of lilies. Do you like the orange ones (tiger lilies), too?
Karen says
Hi YadiQ,
Not So Shy! was a nice surprise. The color reminds me of red Jolly Rancher candies!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
It is quite sheer. Then again, you can always build it up by wetting your brush first with Fix+.
Karen says
Hi Eru,
I think you can do it, too… it’ll totally give your cheeks a “just in from the cold” flush, and will look totally pretty!
Karen says
Hi Laurie,
Yes! 🙂 I’m glad you like it. It is surprisingly user friendly, isn’t it? What cheeks and lips did you pair it with?
Karen says
Hi Indian Girl,
It’s really gorgeous in person!
Karen says
Hi Cloudburst,
I’m thinking Pure Rose would be pretty with a neutral lip liner. Mine is usually Sublime Culture Cremestick Liner. What’s yours?
Laurie says
Karen,
I used Tarte’s cheek stain in blushing bride on my cheeks and NARS turkish delight on my lips. I love that shade, it’s the perfect pinky nude on my lips.
I’m so glad I picked the quad up – thanks to your reviews:) I think Chanel owes you one for all the sales you bring them!
Karen says
Hi Laurie,
How pretty! I still have to get Turkish Delight (*writes note to self*), gahhh! I might be the last person on earth to get that tube of pinky nude goodness. 🙂
LOL, I’m just happy that you like it as much as I do. I find smokey eyes a challenge, so when I find products that make the look accessible I am always eager to share!

Everything looks so pretty! I’m totally digging that little sample baggy inside that round makeup box next to the display! I must have that! LOL What department store was this picture taken?
Megan says
Hmmm… I have to say I am not so impressed. I don’t know… but nothing is catching my eye. I don’t know.. I liked the description of Not so Shy… but I think it’s probably too bright for me.
So BTW I of course still have student loans and I have had upromise for a long time…which means that when I remember and shop online i get various percentages saved that helps to pay my student loans. Andy yes every $3 does help. 🙂 ANYWAY so I installed the Upromise toolbar because I kept forgetting to click through the site when shopping online. (I got like $80 from buying house stuff so far BTW) So I randomly clicked on the “specials” tab the other night and saw that Lancome had a special for free shipping plus a special sample kit if you spend $50…so I might have slightly hauled…oops! LOL It’s been awhile and I’ve been very good on lockdown…only buying house stuff etc. so I’ve already justified it to myself. I am most excited about the holiday eye palette i ordered. http://www.lancome-usa.com/landing/ADDICT2.aspx?cm_mmc=Performics-_-Affiliate-_-UprSpecial-_-ADDICT2

What is that bag of samples on the left of the mac products in the first picture about? I think I see a sample of marc acobs in the bag? What would I do with the cream base? Eyeshadow base? Can I use the red one on the lips?

Cruised the collection at Nordstrom today – wasn’t feeling it – thankfully! That being said – I dented the joint savings account at H&M – it was a fashion crisis – ugh my hubby is soooo going to kill me! What’s worse that or my urge to buy more NARS products? UGH what is wrong with me?
Dao says
It’s not here yet, I ordered online 🙂 I’ll definitely let you know how I like it.

I was at Nordstrom! 🙂

Hi Megan,
“So I might have slightly hauled… oops!”
Girl, welcome to my world. When do you get your stash? I wanna hear about the holiday palette when you get it!
Karen says
Hi Tricia C,
Unfortch I didn’t get the chance to ask about the bag… it’s at Nordstrom, though.
I use the CCB’s for lots of things. I like to use them underneath powder shadows, as a highlighter on specific parts of the face and as a blush (or layered under a powder blush). I don’t really use them on the lips, though, but I am guessing tha tyou can.
Karen says
Hi Dao,
Great! I hope you have fun with your mini haul. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
What do you pair your lipstick with? Or do you just wear it on its own?
cloudburst says
Hi Karen
I got Pure Rose last night and I LOVE it! It’s really hard for me to find pale lipsticks because I’m golden toned & my lips are quite red. Alot of pale colours look ashy or chalky on me – but not this one, I probably won’t wear it with a liner to keep it soft, but I think it would go with any neutral liner nicely – like that Chanel one you blogged about.
Have you tried Fresh Morning ccb on? I find it really white and chalky.
Karen says
Hi Cloudburst,
I have the same issue with pale colors on the lips, too. Hmm. I will have to give it a go again, me thinks. That’s a good idea to try it with the Chanel liner! Or maybe I’ll try it with Sublime Culture.
Gah! I haven’t tried Fresh Morning on yet! When I went in to Nordie’s to swatch I already had a full face of makeup on and I had to rush off to work so I didn’t get the chance. I’m hoping to go back this weekend, hopefully after I clean the mess that is my house, LOL!
