Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

UPDATE: 8/21/08, 8:40PM PST
MAC Cult of Cherry did not disappoint. I love almost everything in the collection — the Lipglasses and Lipsticks, the quads, blushes and Kirsh Mattene. The Lipglasses are my favorites.

The only products I’m not crazy about are the other Mattene shades — Bing, Chock-Ful and Rapturous — and the Nail Lacquers. I think the Mattenes look interesting and pretty, but ultimately I feel like they’re too dark for my lips. To make them wearable, I’d have to pop on a lighter lipgloss, for sure.

I dig the Nail Lacquers, too, but similar shades are available for less. Sally Hansen’s Night Divinity ($6) is a dead ringer for MAC’s Silverstruck, and I think Sally’s Alchemy ($6) resembles MAC’s Illegal Purple.

Mmmmmm, pretty! I went this morning and got the Shadowy Lady quad (smudged violet is soooooo pretty!) and Kirsch mattene! I tried on Plum du Bois blush, and I liked it, but I’m trying to save a little for my Chanel adventure next month! I love Jampacked too, but I have a Smashbox gloss that’s almost a dead ringer! Overall, amazingly gorgeous stuff and I didn’t break the bank! Yay! 🙂

    Drool! :)~

I have lots of similar eyeshadows already so I’m not going to get any of the quads. The lippies are tempting though and I’m on a no-buy policy until the end of this month. Can you hear my cry already? T_T

I think this is the first time I’ve ever wanted every single lipglass in a collection…maybe even a few backups. LOL, my credit card is going to cry! Thanks for the swatches, Karen…I’m delaying the mayhem until this weekend at Nordstrom’s. I’ll report back with some tips from my awesome MAC MA 🙂

    Hi Glosslizard,

Yay for the mini haul. Isn’t Kirsch pretty? I think it might be my favorite Mattene of the bunch.

I wanted to wear Cherry Blossom Lipglass to work today but I was in such a hurry to get out of the house that I left her sitting on my desk. *tears*

    Hi Elle,

The Lipglasses are TO DIE FOR! Seriously just so beautiful. They are the stand outs from the collection for me so far.

Have you looked at the face charts yet on the site? Will your MA be doing one of the Cult of Cherry the looks on you?

Hi Karen! (Since I’m still here, hee.)

I haven’t actually tried the Mattenes yet, because I’m more of a gloss than a matte girl (I have Russian Red and if you’ve got that as a matte red, well, then you are pretty much done looking, no?), but I love the Slimshines. I will have to take a closer look at the Mattenes when I stop by the counter, because Rapturous sure is pretty too.

    Heya Jeanne,

Rapturous is my second favorite (right behind Kirsch)! I know it sorta defeats the purpose to put gloss on it but I am dying to put a layer of Cherry Blossom on it when I get home from work. Wheee!

I have only two Slimshines, believe it or not. I like them too, but they sure seem to disappear quickly!

    hey karen,

Whats a better red for us caramel skin gals, Russian Red or So Scarlet? I like the So Scarlet better, just judging from pictures. Are they both office wearable?

  14. Karen says

    Hi Tatiana,

Depends on how much blue you like. I think Russian Red has a bit o’ blue in it, but it does work for the tanned skin ladies! Try them both on and see which one makes your heart flutter more. 🙂

Regarding office wearability — depends on your environment and of course, how you work it. You can wear both with a neutral cat eye and still look professional, me thinks!

What is your opinion on the Lightly Ripe vs. Mellow Mood? I went in for MM, hoping it would be a little lighter than my Brave (which is the perfect plummy neutral for me! :)). Got to CoC lipglass but am going back for Jampacked. The colors are so pretty!!

A few weeks ago, I gave myself a big lecture about not needing more makeup. I have two Sterilite carts filled with it. Hundreds of glosses, lipsticks, dozens of eyeshadows, etc. There is really nothing I need. Just because I can afford to buy more doesn’t mean I should, I said.

So why did I find myself buying the Shadowy Lady quad, So Scarlet and Lightly Ripe lipsticks, and Cult of Cherry, Jampacked, and Rich & Ripe lipglosses today? Oh MAC, you vixeny temptress :).

This collection blows me out of the water. Fall is always my favorite because I prefer intense, rich colours. I bought the 3 quads, So Scarlet (which I am convinced will look amazing on everyone), Creme Cerise, Liquer, Jampacked & Cult of Cherry.

Unbelieveably I will be going back for Lighty Ripe, Rapturous & Kirsch or Bing.

Blooming is nice, but I found today if I put too much on it looks to obvs. It’ll look more natural in mid winter, when I lose the summer tan. Have fun during your trip after work… be sure to check out Overrich too (dunno if you’re a pigment girl?) cause it’s a BEAUTY!

I’m usually just a gloss and out the door girl (I focus on my eye looks), so I’m really excited that I found a bunch of shades that look and feel great on me. I got Lightly Ripe l/s, and Jampacked and Rich and Ripe lipglasses. I want to go back and try all the other l/s but today too many people were trying everything.

I am in LOVE. I don’t think I could buy another brand’s lipstick after this. Although I really like some of the new Urban Decay shades…

yes i did buy the shadowy lady pallette yesterday – loving it because i don’t have too much violet shadows in my collection – can’t wait to really play with the colors. I also bought “O” lipstick and even the silverstruck nailpolish. I was at the Pro shop today and I bought the studio fix mist foundation (love!) and i brought back 6 old MAC containers and got my free lipstick – the “lightly ripe”. I’m still trying to get use to the color. I tried the So Scarlet – still scared of it even though I wore blue red lipsticks in high school. Traumatized I guess.

So glad I still have some Chanel Vamp left over from the ’90s. 😉

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
