MAC Cosmetics Blue and Green Face of the Day

May 19th, 2008 by Karen 67 Comments

mac-cosmetics-parrot-fotd-sprout-eye-4

We’ve had a stretch of unseasonably warm weather here in the Bay Area, but this morning started off overcast and gloomy. To brighten up my Monday, I did this blue and green eye with MAC Parrot and Sprout.

mac-cosmetics-parrot-fotd-sprout-eye-2

I didn’t feel like going all crazy with the blending, so to keep it simple I limited myself to just three eyeshadow colors. If you’re new to makeup, this would be a super easy look to try! Please ask if you have any questions about reproducing it yourself. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll track down someone who does.

Color map…

  1. MAC Ochre Style on the browbone
  2. MAC Sprout on the inner half of the eyelid and just barely into the crease
  3. MAC Parrot on the outer half of the eyelid and slightly into the crease
  4. MAC Indigo Eye Pencil on the outer 2/3 of the lid and on the upper waterline
  5. MAC Powersurge Eye Pencil on the lower waterline

If the blue and green together are a lil’ too much color for you, you can try the look using neutral pairs. I have a feeling gold and brown or pink and brown on the lid and a neutral shade like MAC Shroom on the browbone would look awfully pretty.

To complete the look…

Over the entire eyelid

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Brows

  • MAC Concrete eyeshadow

Lashes

  • Stila Multi-Effect Mascara in Black

To banish those nasty undereye circles

  • MAC Select Moisturecover Concealer in NW 25
  • Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder #2

Face

  • Laura Mercier Oil-free Tinted Moisturizer in Almond
  • Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder

Cheeks

  • MAC Shy Beauty blush

Lips

  • MAC Viva Glam V lipstick

I realize the cheese factor is pretty high in the above pic, but it makes me laugh. It looks like I should be selling toothpaste or something equally corny.

Did you rock the brights today? What kind of eye look did you wear?

Karen

    Hi Indian Girl,

Thank you! Do you have Sprout? I think it might be discontinued, but I’m guessing you could easily find a similar replacement green.

    Hi Alexa,

It’s a few years old and when I bought I am pretty sure it was from the permanent color collection. I think it might be discontinued, though (boo hoo). I forgot I had it! It was like finding buried treasure. 🙂

Pretty! Did you use MAC colors?

Alas Karen I have a cold so no eyes for me! However I went to work and rocked some studio fix fluid, mineralize skinfinish powder, smooth harmony heatherette bp on cheeks, coconutty lipstick, and softnote tendertones. If I weren’t sick I would have worn some steamy with some bang on blue mixed in.Soft brown on lid and claire de lune on the browbone.

I really like the color combo. I always find it hard to use Parrot at work because it can be so bright and that is a no no at my job.

    Hi Marisol,

LOLOL… I know it’s so totally corny! “Buy this polo.”

I know what you mean about Parrot’s brightness. I’ve toned it down for work by wearing it just on the lid, Soft Brown in the crease and Shroom on the browbone. I’ve found that keeping it to the lid area gives just a slight flash of color.

Another way I’ve used it in the past was by applying it as a liner on the upper lash line with a wet 266 brush while keeping the rest of the eye neutral. That too, gives just a hint of color without being too in yo’ face.

    Hi Mariah,

Yup, Sprout is always that shimmery! 🙂 It’s a very pretty green that I picked up a few years ago purely by accident. I was deep in my brown phase and decided to just try something different. I think it might be discontinued, though…

Aww, thanks my dear! I was so lazy this morning and this was the most I could muster. 🙂 I used the 224 like crazy! Do you have it? I hate it as a crease brush but as a blending brush it’s the shizzzz!

I love the look (you know I’m a blues and greens kinda girl)! I totally see you holding a pack of Orbit gum and saying “Fabulous!” 😉

Strangely enough, I ended up going very neutral yesterday! I did a blended brown eye with Mulch and Stila’s Kitten, and Brule on the browbone. Shu eyeliner in matte brown and black mascara finished the eyes. I used Gazelle glossimer and added a pop of color to my cheeks with beauty powder blush in uber-scary Sweetness! It was sort of an experiment, I actually meant to punch up the look later and never got the time! It was nice though!

I hear ya about rocking the neutrals. Neutrals are like, my middle name. I don’t always feel this adventurous but it’s a good excuse to try new combos. 🙂 Maybe you could start with a violet… I’ve been really liking MAC Star Violet lately, ’cause it’s not an in-your-face purple, but a purple that almost looks like it could be a neutral brown.

It’s great! A fantastic crease shade, and a nice brown without being too boring! I don’t think I’ll do browns without a pop of something very often, but Mulch will work beautifully with deep purples, blues, or dark greens so it’s just what I need! It can be warmed up with golds or cooled down with pinks! An excellent addition to my collection! 😀

Yesterday I was almost bare eyed…which is a never for me… but Sunday I was cleaning my car out and chasing my nephew around the yard at my dad’s house. I really wasn’t planning to be outside and only had on SPF…it was supposed to rain and never did, so I ended up getting a little sun…so yesterday I did a light pink (barely there) wash and a little brown eyeliner with mascara and lip gloss. 🙂 I’m pretty low key today too…

    Hi Glosslizard,

I’ve been wanting to use a few dark matte purples in my stash so I think I will try that with Mulch. It’s probably more of a fall look, but since the weather’s been cooler (I’m swearing a long sleeved shirt and a sweater today, gasp!) I think I might be able to pull it off.

Hmm, I wonder what happened. Oh well, at least you can comment today and I can talk to ya!

I think you’re talking about Rimmel Jungle Green. Isn’t it great? It’s so cheap and is such a pretty color. I do wish it lasted a bit longer on the waterline, but for that bargain price I don’t have a problem with that because the pencil is at least soft.

I’ve tried other Rimmel pencils but Jungle green is my favorite by far.

Anyhoo, that’s cool that you love colors. I’m slowly getting into them more. Do you have faves that I should know about? 🙂

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
