Are You Excited about MAC Beauty Powder Blush?

March 8th, 2008 by Karen 53 Comments

MAC’s new Beauty Powder Blushes hit counters next Thursday, March 13. The blush junkie in me cannot wait to check these babies out! Infused with fine, pearl shimmer, each of the eight limited edition shades promises to deliver a subtle, natural glow.

“The trick to wearing it is to find a shade right for your skin tone because ultimately what you want is a perfectly natural veil on your face,” says Gordon Espinet, Vice President of Makeup Artistry for MAC Cosmetics.

I’m all for perfectly natural cheeks, so I’m stoked about this release.

Beauty Powder Blushes ($17.50) are coming in the following shades:

  • Shy Beauty– Pastel apricot with gold pearl (satin)
  • Feeling– Dirtyplum with silver pearl (satin)
  • Sweetness– Intense blue pink (satin)
  • Joyous– Peach with gold pearl (satin)
  • True Romantic– Mid-tone pink with silver pearl (satin)
  • Serenely– Deep brownish red with gold pearl (satin)
  • Eversun– Neutral peach bronze with gold pearl (satin)
  • Secret Blush Dirty neutral plum with gold pearl (satin)

What say you about Beauty Powder Blushes?

I didn’t end up making it to the video store last night, so no Dirty Dancing for me, but Step Up was on TV. Watching that temporarily scratched my dance movie itch. I have a huge weakness for cheesy dance flicks with characters pirouetting, stomping, and boom-boom-kacking their way through life obstacles, and getting to watch Channing Tatum shake his stuff doesn’t hurt, either.

The sun’s out today, so I’m getting ready for a nice, long run around the neighborhood. I hope you’re having a good day so far.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Happy Women’s Day, Karen! I need to see how these blushes are compared to the regular MAC blushes. The regular ones are too pigmented for me, I need something sheerer but with some shimmer. My current fave is “Theme Park” from Everyday Minerals. It’s pink and shimmery enough to my liking.

Yesterday I went to Michael’s and got myself 2 Loew-Cornell brushes: one to apply detail eyeshadows and the other one to be used as a lip brush. LC brushes are about 1/2 inch longer than my regular brushes so I’m fine with them. Plus they’re very sturdy. I actually didn’t need any new brushes but couldn’t pass those pretty little things.

    Hi Karen,
These blushes are already out in the UK they were launched as part of the Fafi range!

I had a look at them today and was initially tempted but when I tried them out with the Kabuki brush they seemed to make little to no impact at all on my makeup!

I think they may be best used as an all over face powder rather than a blush if you want a faint pink ish shimmer. The MA advised me that they could be used either as a blush in the usual way on the apples of the cheeks or as a light powder for the entire face. As my skin tends to be a tiny bit oily I have to use blotting powder and then over that i use bronzing powder so i just felt that the beauty powders would not be right to control my shine and i dont want to layer yet another powder over the top!

I do however think they would be nice for ladies who dont need to use bronzing powder either because they are naturally tanned or like the pale look thats so now!

I cannot wait for these to launch this coming week! I have been saving up my nickes and dimes and plan to treat myself to a few as an early Birthday present.

I’m on a blush kick right now and these will be the perfect additions to all the rest of my beauties.

I’m torn. It looks like a beautiful collection, but blush is not really one of my big craves (I have three right now, and it seems like a lot)! If I like the finish I may get one (probably one of the plums) but I’m kinda on the fence right now! Gimme gimme eyeshadows and lipgloss!! 🙂

    Hey Karen….

I’ve started to become a blush junkie! I’ve bought about 6 blushes in the past few months…considering I was only using 2 different shades for the longest time. Now what MAC has blushes coming out next week…I might go crazy!! Any colors you might suggest for our skin tones….so I don’t break the bank!!!

    Hi PeeChee!

For the longest time I never wore blush, and then Blushbaby came into my life and was the lone blush in my stash for years. Now I have a whole drawerful and I wonder sometimes how the heck I lived without em.

I’m most excited about Secret Blush. I like plum colored blushes and I have a hunch that the gold pearl will make it irresistible. I think Eversun is also going to be a contender as well!

What colors do you reach for most often? I’ve been wearing Sunbasque for the last few days!

    Hi Dao,

Happy Women’s Day to you too! 🙂 Are you close to a MAC Pro Store? ‘Cause if you want sheer but no shimmer then one good option to try are the Loose Beauty Powders. I have both loose and pressed (from the Barbie Loves MAC collection) in a few different shades; they are sheer with shimmer that’s tasteful (no big chunks o’ glitter), and they are very pretty!

Sounds like you found a few brush winners at Michael’s. What type of hairs are the brush heads made out of?

I thought of you today because I need to buy a new bottle of Seche Vite. Mine is really old and way too thick to use.

Anyway, maybe it’s good that blush isn’t one of your obsessions! Those pans are big and they take up a lot of room. 🙂

    Hiya Karen,

The one I use as a detail brush has white goat hair (I think) that looks like the 239 brush but the head is 1/2 the size. There’s one that’s the same as the 239 from Loew-Cornell too and it’s the 3/8 Maxine’s Mop (it looks and feel the same which scared me a bit!) The one I got yesterday is the 1/4 maxine’s mop, really cute. The other one that I intend to use as a lip brush is the Filber #6 from American Painter. It has golden taklon fiber and I think is suitable to use as a concealer brush too.

I tend to trash my brushes around a lot so I don’t think spending a lot of money on them is a good thing. As long as they don’t shed and age well, they’re fine. Rumor has it that the company that makes brushes for Sephora used to make brushes for Picasso, I saw in one episode of one show in the Beauty network a long time ago.

I think you should check them out since they don’t look too odd to me (not 10 ft long :D)

I haven’t used sephora brushes in years, but somebody gave me a set a few months ago and they are surprising pretty darn good! They’ve improved a lot on their eye brush quality.

The Beauty Powder Blushes have been released here already and I love them! I bought Sweetness and Shy Beauty.
They look very bright at first, but you should not forget that they are different from the regular blushes. The finish is very soft, you have to apply more than you are used to the regular blushes. They don’t give so much color off.
Shy Beauty is comparable to IPP Sassed-Up by Fafi (but much less glittering) and Sweetness is a lovely pink shade for spring and summer! Don’t hesitate to try Sweetness if you see it first!

And… I found out today that the Beauty Powder Blushes have a little less content than the regular blushes:

5g = 0.17 US OZ (BP Blush) and 6g = 0.21 US OZ (regular blush)

But to be honest the packaging seems to be the same for me. Mmh.

I have actually never really tried blotting powders! I had some body shop ones years and years ago but I have never tried any from a decent brand! Chanel do them and I keep meaning to try them but we never have samples of them so I guess I will just have to buy some!

I really love that MAC blotting powder that I bought a couple of weeks ago though! It is so much better than the Chanel!

    Hi Fie,

Okay, I’ll definitely give Sweetness a go. 🙂 As for foundation, I have a few different types …

In the winter when I have no tan I wear Chanel Teint Innocence Compact foundation in 50 natural. This blends perfectly into my skin!

In the early spring when I have a lil’ bit of a tan (from running outside) I wear Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer in Almond.

In the spring/late spring I wear Laura Mercier Oil-Free foundation in Suntan Beige.

I don’t really have a shade for when I get really tan! I guess that gives me an excuse to go looking this summer.

    What shade do you wear?

    Hi Karen,

Do you use the puff to apply the blotting powder when your are intitally applying your makeup or do you do that with a brush and then just use the puff for touchups??

My weekend has been good up until now haha! Had a nice day shopping and then had lunch with my mum yesterday and today went to visit my grandparents which was hard work as I had to teach my grandmother how to work the new cell phone I bought for her! Not easy when she can hardly see the keys! And now I am just getting on with reading about clinical negligance funfunfun!!

    Hi Holly,

I use a powder brush if I’m at home, and for on the go touchups I use the puff. If I use the puff in the morning it makes the makeup look heavy, but later on in the day when more oil has broken through (sounds gross, but oh so true) it lays on enough to cut the shine.

NOBODY in my family can figure out to use their cell phones. My mom keeps hers turned off (despite me telling her she doesn’t need to conserve her batteries), and my dad never answers his. I think my grandma has one too and she has the same issues with the key pads.

Clinical negligance – what a hoot, j/k! Sounds interesting though. What made you decide to study law? I don’t know if I told you this before, but I was *this close* to becoming a law student ten years ago. I took the tests, applied, worked in a few firms, but in the end I knew in my heart it wasn’t what I wanted to do. Now I aspire to be a surf bum, LOL!

    Hi Karen,

thats what I do with the powder too, it seems to take very little in the morning to set my foundation so the brush is fine and then when i need to de-shine my t-zone the puff works great! I am totally hooked on it now! out of interest which shade do you use?

Honestly I cant even remember what 1st made me want to study law but I think it had something to do with watching too much Ally Macbeal as a kid lol! I love certain areas such as medical and employment law so I know its the right thing for me to do for my profession but its such a struggle getting through the horrible boring things you have to cover at university in order to qualify! Anything to do with property, land or estates sends me into a Chanel/MAC filled daydream in minutes!!

Haha what a change in career goals for you!! Law school is heavy going I think if your heart wasnt truly in it and you didnt have that end in sight that kept you going it would be impossible to finish! I have to say though the temptation to forget it all and work for Chanel forever is growing rapidly at the moment ha!!

Sunbasque was one of the blushes I recently got too (along with blushbaby, peachykeen to name a few). I like the “I’ve just returned from Hawaii” look so I would always just sweep some bronzer on. I’m tempted to get all the blushes coming out this week though…but I don’t have anymore room in my traincase that I tuck under the bathroom sink. I’ve got to reorganzie so hubby doesn’t get overwhelmed with my obsession all over the place. 🙂

Oh, cool! I love tropical weather. That’s interesting you can wear those shades from MAC. Maybe you have neutral undertones (neither yellow nor pink dominates). I wish I could wear MAC because there is such a wide selection but unfortunately it breaks me out.

I really like Laura Mercier a lot, because it has good coverage and doesn’t break me out. But I’m always looking to try new brands and formulas, so right now I’ve got a few samples of Armani that I’m looking forward to trying!
