It’s fall, and zillions of lips in our hemisphere are currently delighting in deliciously dark fall lip shades — like wines, berries, plums and deep chocolaty browns…
YUM.
But what are you gonna rock on your eyes, my love? You need something that won’t overshadow those bold, rich lips.
May I offer a suggestion please? Because that’s what I do? 🙂 Try MAC Amorous Alloy Eye Shadow, also known as “Sexy Metal,” which is my nickname for her.
Amorous Alloy is one of the MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadows, a sub-genre, so to speak, in the MAC permanent eyeshadow fam.
What’s an unsung makeup hero? For me, it’s an oftentimes underrated makeup morsel, a permanent collection product that scoots under the radar screen of many makeup lovers but regularly rocks my world. The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorites.

The Extra Dimensions are powder shadows, but they feel crazy soft like creams. They’re also very easy to blend and long lasting. This particular color, Amorous Alloy, is a shimmery, highly pigmented reddish copper with a hint of brown.

I love it on my lids in the fall with a warm matte brown shadow, like a peachy, orange-y or reddish brown, in the crease. MAC Soft Brown, Texture, Swiss Chocolate and Saddle all come to mind.
Amorous Alloy goes well with all of them in whatever combination. There’s something about the way shimmery Amorous Alloy contrasts with a rich matte warm brown in the crease, and it’s downright magical when you couple that combo with a dark fall lip.
It doesn’t even really seem to matter which lip color I go with, either. A berry, brown, wine, burgundy, or even a red lip all look lovely with this eye color combo. It’s a quintessentially fall makeup combo.

Now, if you’re feeling too lazy to blend on any given day (don’t worry, it happens to the best of us), Amorous Alloy looks amaze-balls if you wear it on your lash line layered atop MAC Teddy eyeliner.
I think Costa Riche works too, but Teddy is…MWAH. Perfection.
Teddy and Amorous Alloy, by the by, if you have hooded lids, is an epic combo. They’ll draw attention to your eyes, but you won’t have to go through all of the machinations and complications associated with blending shadows on your lids.
If you do try them together, don’t forget to hit up your water lines with Teddy, and do your best to buff out a gradient along the edges of your lash lines, so that you don’t have harsh stops and starts. Also, of course, pile on the mascara (as much as you can take).
A single pan of Amorous Allow is $20 in the black plastic packaging with a clear flip top cap. Unfortunately, MAC doesn’t sell the Extra Dimensions as refills, so you’re kind of forced to buy the whole thing.
Damn, I wish they would sell them as refills, because if they did, OOOH — it would be on!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
I really love that color, but I don’t know if I can wear it. MAC uses carmine in a lot of their reddish colors (generally the ones I really love, of course) and I’m allergic to it. This is such a pretty color, I’d wear it all the time if it doesn’t have carmine in it!
So glad I have Teddy ! You mentioned it ions ago and I bought it then. Gonna run out and get Anorous Alloy too !
☠️ Happy Halloween ?☠️?? Post some pics of Connor Claire in costume please !
