I’m all gingered out, man! Gingersnaps in my tum, Ginger Soufflé on my skin, and now Blue Ginger in my hair, because Herbal Essences. Blue Ginger is the latest in their bio:renew line.
Did you know there’s actually such a thing as blue ginger? I had no idea. Didn’t know it was a real plant. I knew about red ginger, but not blue.
Basically…if it smells anything like Herbal Essences Blue Ginger Shampoo, Conditioner and Foam Conditioner (excited about this!), then it must smell otherworldly.
Because these are Herbal Essences products, the fragrance is front and center and lingers, and that’s the point. It’s a little spicy and a little sweet, like candied ginger, with bright lemon and lily notes.
I spend half my day smelling my hair when I use these products, ahhhh!
Blue Ginger & Micellar Water Shampoo — $5.99 (what!?)
Blue ginger isn’t the only plant in this. It also contains aloe and sea kelp, but the micellar water and the price are why it caught my eye in the first place. It’s $5.99 for the shampoo (same goes for the two conditioners).
I’ve seen micellar water in skin care many times over the years (what exactly is it?), but I’ve never seen it in a hair product before.

When you work the shampoo into your hair, cleansing oils encapsulated in water gently remove grit and grime without stripping your strands or irritating your scalp.
This is super gentle, and it doesn’t weigh my hair down, strip my color or encourage my dandruff. It’s for all hair types, too, from color treated to fine hair, thick hair, you name it. I can’t recommend it enough, and it’s such a good deal.
Blue Ginger Conditioner — $5.99
The matching Blue Ginger Conditioner is also made for all hair types. It doesn’t, however, contain micellar water, but it still de-tangles and de-frizz just fine. I like it…but I don’t love it like I love the other conditioner in this line…
Blue Ginger Foam Conditioner!

Blue Ginger Foam Conditioner — $5.99
The Herbal Essences bio:renew line also includes a White Grapefruit & Mosa Mint foam conditioner, Rosemary & Herbs, and a Cucumber & Green Tea one. The foams are all designed for fine hair, but I think anyone who craves volume will like them.
My hair is nowhere near fine, but it can get heavy and look flat, especially when it’s long, which is why I still like to use conditioners that won’t weigh it down even more. Blue Ginger Foam doesn’t. Not at all! The foam works fast, and it’s super fun to use. It soaks into your strands and rinses right out.

Plus, scanning the list of ingredients, I don’t see any silicones either, which is surprising for this price.
Oh! — if you’re thinking that you can also use this as a cleansing conditioner, like R+Co Analog or Dry Bar Double Standard, I’ve tried it. Great minds think alike, LOL!
Unfortunately…it doesn’t really work as well like that. My hair doesn’t feel as clean as it does when I use Analog or Double Standard, but I’d still use it in a pinch.

Ginger, ginger, everywhere! Literally, everywhere. Drugstores, Target, Ulta, grocery stores… You’ll find these at all of those places when they launch in January.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Wait for it…
TGIF!!! 🙂
I have the Pantene foam conditioner and really like it because I do have really fine hair. I’ll have to check these out.
I remember you mentioning liking it. I wish it was easier to smell the foams before you bought them. Yes, I’m that person in the shampoo aisle smelling all the shampoos, haha!
How are you doing today? TGIF!
I’m good! Getting ready to go to PetCo to get some necessities (hopefully some adoptable kitties need pets from me) and then Michael’s to get yarn. Animals are doing well, except that it’s really cold outside. How are you?
I’m doing great. I’m feeling much better and so is the baby, so it’s gotten a little easier over the past few days. I’m happy that the weekend is on the horizon! What are you going to make with the yarn?
Pet a cute tabby for me if you can.
A friend of a friend liked the yarn I used on a scarf I knit for our mutual friend, so I picked some up for her. I also bought some more to try to practice socks.
No adoptable kitties, but they may have all been adopted so that’s good! I did see a good doggo dressed in his winter coat. It’s been really cold, so everyone’s been bundled up. There was a brown tabby kitten about 6 months old one of the last times I went though, and she was so sweet and beautiful. I told her that she was a good girl, I loved her, and that she’d get adopted soon.
That’s so nice of you. What does the yarn look like? It’s been ages since I’ve knitted anything (I never made it past a very basic scarf), so I’ve lost what I used to know, but I still enjoy looking at yarn. My favorites are the multi-colored chunky ones.
Hopefully that sweet tabby girl is lounging on a lap in her forever home. Whenever Connor and I go to the pet store we spend a good amount of time looking at the kittens, and I’m pretty sure she’s always trying to convince me to take one (or all) of them home.
I’m all about that chunky yarn life. This yarn was turquoise and chunky, and looked almost twisted like cord.
Connor Claire is a junior feline enthusiast!
She is a budding champion of the kitties, that’s for sure. It’s so cute when she says the word cat. She can’t quite make the “t” sound at the end so whenever she sees cats at the store she’ll say, “Where’s ca?” or “It’s ca!” I’ve also caught her several times giving Tabs kisses (“Mwah!”). She also likes to share her food with him, LOL. Trying to break that last habit…
I love the super thick chunky yarns that are used to throw blankets. So lovely!
I will now stalk my drugstore for this.. especially the foam..my hair is naturally curly, there is a lot of it, but it’s fine. 8 can’t wait to try this conditioner.
Hi JaNelle,
It’s really good for the price. I hope that it works for you!
I can’t wait to try the Blue Ginger shampoo and conditioner. It would be great to find a good shampoo at such a great price. I haven’t used HE shampoo in years.
I made my grandmother’s ginger cookies for Christmas and I’ve been burning my Thymes Gingerbread candle (pure heaven). Even made a special ginger champagne cocktail for Christmas Eve. We are on the same page!
Hi Lily,
Oh, that candle sounds lovely! I’ve been burning a pine-scented candle by Yankee Candle. Smells like the holidays! 🙂
Did Red and Star get anything from Santa this year?
Catnip scented crab claw and Greenies! Hope Tabs got lots!
Oh, lovely! Greenies are always a hit at our house. Tabs got a stocking full of toys and a festive tie for his collection. 🙂 He has plans to stay in this NYE. Lucky me to be graced with his presence!
No, no ginger scent for me, but I might look into the white grapefruit and mosa mint one. I keep reading mimosa, ha, that intrigues me.

It’s not very strong. 🙂 You’ll get a lot of the floral and citrus! It’s lovely.
I’ve been wanting to try a foaming conditioner and this looks like the one!
Hi Rachel,
Yes! I’m so happy to see more of them at the drugstore. Chelsea here in the comments says that the Pantene one is good too, so that’s something you might want to look at if you can’t find Herbal Essences yet at the drugstore.
Happy Saturday, by the way! What are you doing today?
I will look into both and see what I have coupons for! Today is bitterly cold here in North Dakota, supposed to be -30 tonight! So I am staying in, making soup, and putting away the Christmas stuff. Speaking of ginger, have you had ginger tea? I love how spicy it is! I think the last one I had was from Traditional Medicinals. What’s your fam up to today?
Just thinking about how cold it is out your way is making my face hurt. ? I couldn’t hang, man! Ya know, I have a box of ginger tea, and I occasionally drink it if I’m feeling really crummy. It’s a little too spicy for me. I’m more of a Tradtional Medicinal Throat Coat person. Have you tried that flavor? It tastes good and totally works foe me when I have a scratchy throat.
What kind of soup are you making? I’m going to make a white bean and spinach stew today.
I’m making a vegetable soup with white beans and kale, great minds think alike! Yes I love Throat Coat and I have a stash in my cupboard for when I am sick!
I’m always always always on the hunt for the perfect shampoo, so I’ll keep this in mind when I next run out! I like the idea of something that’ll cleanse well without drying (I have a very dry scalp with flaking). Right now I’m working through some Aussie volumizing shampoo. I figured the volumizing action would be pretty cleansing without stripping, and it’s working so-so. Definitely not drying me out too much but I still have more flakes and itchiness than I’d like.
I love me some ginger in my food but on my skin or hair? I absolutely despise it because I feel all day like I’m smelling like food lol!!! Interesting though: never heard of a micellar water for hair!

Have you ever tried shampoo from Maple Holistics? I bought it a few times and I liked using it.
Hi! Since having a baby 2 years ago, my hair is so oily! It used to be perfectly dry and styled so well! Now the second I blow dry it after a shower I have to use dry shampoo. I usually use Redken cleansing cream which is awesome but just too expensive right now. Do you think this conditioner would be helpful since it’s light weight? I’m desperate for a budget friendly cleansing shampoo and conditioner that doesn’t leave my looking greasy! Help!
