It’s micellar, micellar, everywhere! Yeah, here’s another micellar makeup remover, this one from Lancôme.
We JUST talked about micellar magic a few days ago in that post about the MAC Gently Off Wipes + Micellar Water Wipes, which… Ah! So pink!
Lancôme Bi-Facil Face Makeup Remover ($40) combines an oil-based makeup remover, like the one in the original Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover (which is EPIC!) — with micellar water. You shake the bottle to mix the oil and water, soak a cotton pad with said elixir, then wipe your makeup off your face.
The oil is supposed to whisk away face makeup (even the most stubborn kind) while the micellar magic cleanses your skin. Two in one.
Sounds like a lazy girl’s dream come true, right?
NOPE, I’M HELLA CRABBY.
Yes, it effectively removes my foundation, blush, lipstick, etc., and my face does feel clean and fresh after I use it. I even smell like expensive roses.
Heck, I don’t even feel the need to rinse my face with water afterward, because it feels that clean.
Now for the but part, though…
Are you ready for it?
But it doesn’t work on eye makeup! — which is totally blowing my mind right now. WHY?! I mean, it’ll handle a light layer of non-waterproof mascara and a powder eyeshadow, but it can’t hang if I’m wearing cream shadow, waterproof mascara, liquid liner or eyeliner.
I didn’t expect that, but I guess I should have. After all, this version doesn’t have “eye makeup” in the name. Still, the original Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover — swear to the old gods and the new — removes everything. Shoot, I wouldn’t be surprised if it could remove that lower back tattoo from 1994.
Oh, well… One thing I really do like about this one, though, is that I don’t feel the need to wash my face afterward, which I do when I use the other version.
In the same price range, I prefer this Lancôme honey makeup remover, but I like this one too.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Girl! I love the bi-facil for eyes (worth every penny cause I use water proof mascara)… and I just recently started using the honey face wash/remover stuff after reading your blog post about it. It’s everything! I thought it would be wierd putting it on a dry face but it works sooo well. I have tried and loved so many of your recommendations that I won’t buy anything now unless it’s Karen approved. ?
Hi Mary,
Yay! I’m so glad you like the honey remover. It’s one of my faves now too!
Ulta has a product just like this one. It doesn’t remove eye makeup either:(
Happy Saturday! Your reviews are always on point! I had the same problem. I used to use this product too and gave up on it.
Removing makeup was such a pain until I found-KOSE Softy Mo speedy cleansing oil($10,on Amazon, a Japanese product.) It removes everything even my Stila eyeliner, eyeshadow and primer. Massage on dry skin with dry hands and rinse. It converts to a milky liquid and rinses away completely.
Hi Sakura,
Thank you! That remover sounds great. Do you know if it’s available through Amazon Prime? I’ve been burned in the past by purchasing beauty/health products on Amazon and now I’m super careful about the source.
@Karen, yes it is available through Amazon Prime. Search “Kose Softy Mo.” The listing calls it”KOSE Softy Mo Facial Cleansing Oil Speedy” and it is sold by Tokyo Wind and fulfilled by Amazon($9.99). If you do get it, just remember when you use it to massage on a dry face with dry hands until the makeup breaks up, then rinse and it will turn milky. Good luck!
Sweet. I vowed to stop buying beauty products on amazon but if I can find it legit I’ll try it! 🙂
@ Karen, I hope that it works out for you! Amazon prime items are usually super easy to return, if not.
Chanel recently came out with a bi-phase face makeup remover. Since I love their eye makeup remover I thought I’d try it. While I love the one for eyes, the one for face made my skin sting.
I’ll probably give this Lancome one a try. It seems like it would be lighter and more refreshing on these hot, hot, hot summer days than the balms and cleansing oils I’ve been using lately.
Hope you’re not completely dying in this heat. It was 107 down this way yesterday. Was going to go to The City, but it wasn’t much cooler there at all. Going to the movies this afternoon with Dear Husband, I’m praying they have the AC cranked. If they don’t, I’m going to the mall and praying for AC there.
for a product costing for $40 and not able to remove eye makeup will annoy. sounds like I need to stick to the Garnier Oil-Infused micellar water. Costs less than $10 and does the job very well. removes everything including waterproof eye-makeup. I do love Lancôme but its a no from me with this one.
What works for eyes never seems to work for faces. It would be great to have an all-in-one product. I use Tatcha’s Cleansing Oil to remove my eye makeup but don’t care for it as a facial cleanser (it’s intended purpose).
