A Veggie Burger, Fries and Vanilla Shake Face of the Day

December 26th, 2011 by Karen 30 Comments

Since all I really had to do today was eat, I decided not to go all out with my makeup. I went with a mostly neutral look using products from NARS, MAC, Buxom, Tarte, Boots, Hourglass, Urban Decay and Madina Milano.

I guess I’d describe this as neutral with a side of sparkle… I think the eyes are probably sparklier in person than they might appear here because the sparkles from NARS Eyeshadow in Night Star are shy in front of the camera.

They are there, though, doing their sparkly thing.

I wore this out to lunch with the fam today to a local Redding institution, a great little burger joint here called Damburger, which has been around since 1938! El Hub has a relative who’s been getting burgers there since about 1946.

I opted for the vegetarian menu and the chipotle black bean veggie burger, fries and a vanilla shake. The veggie burger had tons of flavor, and I loved the texture. It wasn’t gummy or dry (like how some veggie burgers are), and was made with corn, rice, beans and some very yummy spices.

Delish!

A breakdown of the look…

EYES
  • NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (primer)
  • NARS Eyeshadow in Night Star (brow bone and inner corner)
  • NARS Eyeshadow in Cyprus (lids and crease)
  • NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Star Sailor (bronzy side on outer third)
  • NARS Eyeshadow in Galapagos (upper lash line)
  • MAC Eye Kohl in Powersurge (lower lash line)
  • Buxom Amplified layered on top of Urban Decay Cannonball (upper and lower lashes)
CHEEKS
  • Buxom True Hue Blush in Swept Away and Tryst (apples)
  • Madina Milano Moda Chic & Shine Highlighter (upper cheek bones)
LIPS
  • Boots No. 7 Poppy King Lipstick in Allure
  • Boots No. 7 Poppy King Lipgloss in in Allure
FACE
  • Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (all over face)
  • MAC Strobe Cream (cheeks, forehead and eyes)
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW25
  • MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC42 (forehead, cheeks, nose and chin)
  • Tarte Provocateur Pressed Mineral Powder in Honey (all over face)
  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Give Me Sun (across forehead, below cheekbones and along chin)

What did you have for lunch today? Were there fries in the mix?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

That burger looks so good! No fries for me today. Lunch was sauteed mushrooms and goat cheese on a whole grain bun. Gotta be good with the meals to save room for all the Trader Joe’s cookies I’ve been indulging in this season. Besides the Dark Chocolate Stars I’m completely obsessed with the Triple Ginger Cookie Thins. SO GOOD!

      Hi Heidi,

I’ve had one too many TJ’s Dark Chocolate Stars as well. I’ll have to see if I can grab a box of the Triple Ginger Cookie Thins before they run out… love ginger snaps!

The only veggie burgers I get to eat are from the frozen food section at Whole Foods! These look so yummmy… Lunch was dosas – that’s Indian food – vague description would be a rice-based crepe/pancake 😛

      Hi Rads,

I haven’t tried the Whole Foods veggie burgers. Do they have lots of yummy things in them like beans, corn and whatnot?

I did not have lunch today…because I woke up at 4. 😛 I was really busy last week, and today has been the first day I got to sleep in. My husband said he thought I had fallen into a coma.

I love this neutral look- I know it’s your burger and shake FOTD but I think this wouldn’t look out of place in a Burberry ad 🙂 Classy lady.

    Awesome earring too!

Yummy! I have been craving vegetarian quite a lot recently. Don’t know why the thought of meat makes me lose appetite…. Really strange. Lol!

Hope you are having a fun time with your family. 🙂

As I was eating alone and lazy, I just had some left over fried rice and leftover vegetarian ‘babi pangang’, and it actually tasted pretty good!

      Hi DalaLuz,

I bet your meal tasted great! I kinda like eating leftovers sometimes because the flavors settle in.

What are you up to today? We’re still here at El Hub’s parents’ house. They have movers here today so it’s kinda hectic.

Galapagos looks more delicious than a burger *drools*

I don’t want to sound like a biatch, but the boyfriend and I are still on holiday (till January 2nd. This is what happens when you work for a university), so we woke up way late and had oysters and white wine… (no, I’m not sure how my body will handle this surprise lol)

Ahhh the end of the year does come but once a year!

Yummy burgers! I get cravings for a tiny family-owned burger joint near the house where I grew up, but rarely get back there to indulge.

Magnifique, Karen. Brava. No exclamation points, because none are needed. Take a bow. Polished. Elegant. But head-turning. The ones with no taste will not notice. The classier ladies will side-glance, then nod in quiet approval.
Actually, don’t take a bow. Merely bow your chin slightly, a mere acknowledgement.

    WELL DONE.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
