Wore this look on a Zoom call with a beauty brand yesterday (it was Urban Decay to talk about their latest Naked palette, for the nosey noodles who were wondering!), and in classic K-dawg fashion I banged it out in 15 minutes before it started because that’s how I roll.
And, um…Connor also had a social distancing playdate at the park shortly before the call was scheduled to start, and we made it back home by the skin of our teeth, ha ha ha! Whenever I’m pressed for time but want to look gussied up, I always fall back on smokey eyes and nude lips. This khaki and copper version relies on just two products.
I paired the eyes with peach lips and cheeks because EASY. PEASY.
I’m also wearing a little more base makeup than I have been lately because I knew that “makeup people” (air quotes) were going to be present, so if there were ever a time to load up on a little more concealer, this was it.
Since we’re on the topic of quick looks, what’s your default medium-impact makeup look when you’re pressed for time?
Makeup worn in this look
EYES:
- Tom Ford Spice (lids) — a go-to cream shadow in a coppery bronze with the prettiest sheen
- MAC Buried Treasure (lids) — golden khaki from LE from the Brooke Shields palette
- Maybelline Lasting Drama Matte in Jade Olive (water and lash lines) — long lasting, and fantastic on brown eyes
- Laura Mercier Caviar Mascara (lashes) — all that and a bag of chips
- Covergirl Easy Breezy Brow in Medium and It Cosmetics Brow Powerfull in Universal Taupe (brows) — a combo for bushy, casual brows
CHEEKS:
- MAC Coppertone Blush (apples) — a staple summertime shade
- Hourglass Vanish Highlighting Stick in Champagne Flash (upper cheekbones and inner corners of eyes) — subtly shiny when buffed out
LIPS:
- NUDESTIX Gel Color Lip + Cheek Balm in Luxe (lips) — lightweight and moisturizing
BASE:
- Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter in Tan (all over face) — a must-have for luminous base
- Kevyn Aucoin Supernatural Concealer in Medium 06 (cheeks) — natural-looking satin finish
- Estee Lauder Hydra Prep in Medium Deep (under eyes) — especially kind to ladies with fine lines

P.S. Happy hump day! ?

Ah, I like this look. Wouldn’t have thought to blend Copper with Khaki. Karen, “Buried Treasure” reminds me of a MAC eyeliner back in the days. It was a brownish-greenish, smudgey pencil. Interesting that the Brooke Shields palette has a shadow with the same name. I remember this palette sold out like candy when it released in Germany.
Karen says
That palette was here for a hot second, too. Honestly it’s one of my faves. That one, Warm Neutrals (similar packaging) and the Nordstrom Naturals are the ones I reach for the most!

When I don’t have enough time, my way to put makeup goes like this:
1) Put some medium-full coverage foundation to skip concealer.
2) Do my brows.
3) Put some lipcolor (My lips have that brown dead color) and if it’s with makeup people I’d wear something bright.
4) Do my lashes.
The difference relies on not using powders.
About the CT Flawless filter, have you heard that the L’Oréal Visible Lift Luminous Serum Tint is a dupe?
Also about the UD palette, is it the purple one? The site redirects me to the Mexican store so I’m unsure about what palette are you talking about.
Karen says
I haven’t heard that but I’ll probably eventually give it a go. The finish on the CT is pretty hard to beat though! It’s the perfect amount of shine.
And yes, the UD palette is the new purple one!
Efrain says
If that line was available in Mexico I’d buy it to experiment with the glowy finish, because I can’t see myself paying CT prices for a product I may not love enough.
I forgot to tell you that I loved the eye look in your photos.

When I need to get out the door (man I miss needing to be somewhere lol)
1. Tinted moisturizer or CC cream
2. Powder for the tzone
3. Fix the brows, little eyeliner, shimmer on the lids And mascara
4. Some cream blush with some shimmer in it (Tarte busy gal blush stick)
5. Lipgloss and then go!
I do have a zoom singing lesson on Friday so I am very excited to put my face on lol
Karen says
I miss needing to be somewhere too!
You know what I’ve noticed about Zoom? The pic on the screen is not quite like the one I have in my head. I saw myself doing a plank on the screen the other day and I was like WHAT THE WHAT. That’s my plank? LOL

This is an OG Karen look and I am here for it! Passing on this new UD palette but you look beautiful, as always!
Karen says
Thanks, friend! This is a go-to for a reason. It’s so easy! I’m all about that life these days.
Are you working from home these days?

Karen, it’s nice to see that beauty bloggers still get the PR love; you don’t have to just do YouTube. I’m still so unaware of how the social medias work. I recently watched a YouTuber explain how she makes money; now I know how to support my favorite YouTubers. I’m wondering if it’s similar with blogging?
This look is reminiscent of what you could do with the MAC Fabulous Felines collection — OMG I miss that so much; why oh why did I get rid of my Burmese Beauty palette????? I love the smokiness of the khaki lid. I recently bought MAC “Mo Money Mo Problems” eyeshadow pan and although I don’t normally do muted green mattes, I’m loving this color for its smokiness!
Default on-the-go look would be lash curling + mascara + touch of concealer + deeper lip color (since not much going on with the eyes) but if I”m REALLY pressed for time: just lash curling!
Karen says
I loved that collection. When it was time to downsize my MAC collection Fabulous Felines was the one of the very few where I held onto most everything. Plus… CATS!
Different bloggers have different means of generating income, so it depends on the individual sites. Some sites have affiliate links, some run ads (either through Google or through a service that handles the ads), some do sponsored posts. Some sites, like MBB, have a small store attached (mine is connorclaire.com)!
Christine says
Thanks for being candid about that. Now I know how to support you (& Connor Claire’s college fund 😉 )! Plus — cute stuff over there!
Karen says
I have more stuff coming out soon for summer! One blessing from quarantine is I finally have the time to work on it again.
Tatiana says
Gorgeous look! I love that khaki greenish color and it goes so well with the peach lips.
I tried the new Marc Jacobs mascara. While I liked the way it looked when it went on, it ended up smudged all around my eyes. Sticking to the Laura Mercier Caviar mascara. It goes on nicely, builds up well if I want it to and it stays put for a non-waterproof and comes off easily without ripping out any lashes. Win, win, win, win!

I will literally set a timer on my phone for 10 minutes and go.
Brows, powder or pomade
Bronzer or cream blush
UD eyeliner blended out
Maybe a finger of shadow dabbed on my lids
Mascara
Lipliner
gloss as I hit the door!
Karen says
I’m a HUGE believer in using a timer for makeup (especially when you have to get out the door in a certain amount of time)! Otherwise I know things will spiral out of control quickly.
Jan says
Thanks for the photo of your eyes closed. It really helps to show the color placement.
My makeup application changes by who I will be around, too. Glad to know you do the same thing.
If you are looking for ideas, maybe a blog about Zoom makeup tips? I know you did one a while back that was funny (and it was), but something more basic when Zooming with people who wear minimal makeup would be helpful to me, so maybe it would for others as well.
Karen says
Hi Jan,
Sure! I’ve done this type of look myself (minimal makeup to Zoom with people who don’t wear a lot of it! It was for a family visit). It’s pretty much my basic “get some stuff on my face so I don’t look like a zombie” so to be honest it’s not super exciting, but if if would help you I’m happy to do a post. Adding it to my list. 🙂

Wow, 15 minutes? I don´t even look half as good if I have an hour to my disposal!
Amalia says
Beautiful look, I will try to recreate it with the old Chanel Vert Khaki mono eyeshadow! Thank you.

Khaki and copper are my FAVORITE colors for my eyes, this is great!
