If you’ve ever experimented with the bushy brow look you probably already know this: there’s a fine line between “full and lush” and “full-on cray.” Sometimes ya unintentionally cross that line (whoops!), and sometimes you don’t… The latter happened to me today when I stumbled onto this bangin’ bushy brow combo.
Budget beauty brows
Both products are from the drugstore, and to that I say, “Huzzah!” (Sorry, I’ve been binge-watching The Great on Hulu for the past few days.)
HUZZAH!
The two things: Covergirl Easy Breezy Brow in the shade Medium ($9.49) and Maybelline Tattoo Studio Brown Pen in Soft Brown ($7.59).
Easy Breezy Brow Gel is an intensely tinted gel loaded with color, and it dries to a super stiff hold. If you’re a fan of the awesome Hourglass Arch Brow Gel, this Covergirl product is practically a drugstore dupe.
It deposits tons of color and pushes brow hairs upwards and outwards (especially those on the inside/closer to the nose), so if you’re going for fluffy, full brows with defined hairs, it’s perfect. Just be sure to remove any and all excess gel from the brush before you use it, because this stuff is intense!
After running the brow gel through my brows, I fill the sparse spots with the Tattoo Studio Pen, which like because it has juuust enough pigment, so it doesn’t make your brows look “blocky” or overly filled.
Oh, and if you’re feeling adventurous, it also doubles as a pen for drawing fake freckles. ?
A lip oil hack for soft matte lips
Speaking of products you can use in different ways…if you have a good lip oil sitting around, try mixing a little into your favorite matte liquid lipstick for a custom lip color with a soft matte finish.
Just dab a bit of both the liquid lipstick and lip oil on the back of your hand, mix them together with a finger or a brush, and pat that blended beauty combo on your lips.
I did it for this look with Pixi liquid lipsticks and a Covergirl lip oil for a finish just shy of matte. I also dabbed a tiny bit of highlighter on my Cupid’s bow to add contrast to the soft matte finish.

Karen says
Aww, thanks Bebe!
Andrea says
Can we have an updated skincare routine? Your skin is so pretty!!
Karen says
Hi Andrea,
I wish I could say I was doing something different, but it’s pretty much the same. Gentle cleanser, a liquid exfoliator (AHA or BHA), zit cream (Kate Somerville’s! THE. BEST.), a no-frills moisturizer, a retinol a few nights a week and sunscreen (Elta MD). I think the biggest difference is I’ve been wearing a lot less foundation/concealer/powder. It seems to photograph better for some reason!

You are looking absolutely stunning Karen! How funny! “Au Naturelle” by Pixi is one of my favorite lippies! It has this fresh peachy color that looks natural but also sexy! Yes, a dab of oil or lip balm is needed when using these!
Karen says
It’s such a good color. 🙂 Pixi makes some great makeup! They have a neutral palette that I wear all the time.
Patti says
Beautiful! Love your brows!
I’m also watching “The Great” and say (yell) “Huzzah!” at least 5 times a day. ?
Karen says
Thanks, Patti!
Do you have Netflix? I also found some other good shows recently: Sweet Magnolias and Crazyhead.
Patti says
Yes, I do! I’ve seen Sweet Magnolias pop up. I will check out both.
Thank you!
Patti

You’re welcome. You let me know if you find any other shows you like, too! Have a great rest of your week.

OMG I literally jumped on the Bushy Brow Bandwagon yesterday. This look flatters you so well! I’m still getting used to it but I rather like it. I set mine with glycerin soap and they HELLA SET. I tried MAC Concrete with a thin wet brush to draw individual hairs to fill the bald spots, but it was a bit dark for me. I actually may try a pomade in blonde because I like my brows much lighter than my hair color. But I can definitely get behind the natural-looking, bushy brow look. 🙂
The cool thing, too, is that when I have to get that “eyebrow itch,” nothing moves or smudges!
Karen says
Yeah, I’ve heard about soap brows! I haven’t tried it on myself but I love how it looks. It felt a little bit funny for me to see the brushed up hairs in person, but in pics I think they look great!
Chelsea says
I love the lip hack! That’s a great idea!
My current brow gel is Anastasia’s in caramel because it makes my blonde brows match the red hair a bit better without looking stark. Sometimes I like to do it early in my makeup routine, let it dry, and apply again for extra bushiness.
Karen says
Been a minute since I tried the Anastasia gel but from what I remember it was pretty good! Hers was my go-to pencil for years.
Savannah says
I love this! You look so stunning!
Karen says
Thanks, Savannah. How is your week going so far?

You have great make-up ideas, recommendations, beautiful skin and such an up beat positive blog! I have to ask, have you considered tinting your brows? That’s what I do, and though they aren’t perfect, I like them enough to go on with my day and not have to apply any product… Yay for low maintenance. I buy Godfrey brand on Amazon.
Anne says
Oh, I never thought about mixing an oil into my matte lipsticks – to be honest, I am not sure if I do have one, I need to look at my stash.
