Chanel’s In Love with Coral Blush

March 31st, 2009 by Karen 24 Comments

1 chanel in love blush

It’s raining coral blush, hallelujah! I dunno about you, but I love coral blushes like drag queens love sequins.

A couple weeks ago, Chanel busted out the summer Cote D’Azur collection with their new coral blush, In Love ($45).

It’s one of several coral blushes to arrive on department store makeup counters over the past couple months.

Are you a coral blush kinda girl (or boy!) wondering which new blush to try?

Here’s a comparison swatch of In Love alongside two of my favorite coral blushes to come out recently, Benefit Coralista ($28) and Dior Coral Riviera ($42).

Swatches from left to right: Dior Coral Riviera, Benefit Coralista, Chanel In Love

  • Dior Coral Riviera’s a shimmery warm coral with brown tones. I think it’s almost a bronzer-coral blush hybrid.

Of the three blushes shown here, I think it has the finest shimmer. If you like the way bronzers look on you, you might really love Dior Coral Riviera blush.

  • Benefit Coralista’s shimmery pinkish coral makes it the lightest blush of the three. It lacks the warm golden shimmer of both the Dior and Chanel blushes; instead, its shimmer looks like a cool pink to me — cooler and frostier than the other two. Consider it if you’re of lighter skin tone and drawn to cool colors.
  • Chanel’s In Love delivers a shimmery warm coral with orange tones. . It’s the sheerest of these three, and I think it’s the most natural looking one, too, despite its large bits of golden glitter. If you’re a fan of Chanel, In Love could be hard to resist. She’s subtle but should look cute with bronze or khaki eyes and shiny lips. 🙂

I haven’t finished that paper for school yet… I got sidetracked by Chanel, but I’m going to work on it a little bit tonight.

Hope you had a good day. What are you doing tonight?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hi Karen, thanks for the swatches! I love your blog so much, I’m also Filipina and I always go to this blog for inspiration. 🙂

I think I might purchase either Chanel In Love or Dior’s Coral Riviera. What do you think would be a better option for NC40 skin? 🙂 Oh and one more question, do you have any recommendations for a berry toned blush for NC40? 🙂 Thank you!

      Hi Iliana,

You’re welcome! Glad to hear the swatches come in handy.

I think Dior Coral Riviera would be a good choice. The brown looks very pretty on our skin tone. Plus, you don’t have to layer so much on so it’s quicker to apply and you use less.

For berry toned blushes, I like MAC Plumfoolery. Breezy and Breath of Plum are nice, too. 🙂

Coral is definitely your color! I love coral blushes too so I’m really eager to see Coral Riviera. In Love is also quite similar to Reflex – another Coral Chanel blush 🙂

    Really pretty!

I think I may get Benefit’s Coralista. I had my brows done and they did a touch up and the MUA applied some of this blush and I really liked it.

Ooh Karen this blush looks fabulous! I’ve been rocking MAC’s Margin for a long while and want to try something new, and this is right up my alley. Thank you for swatching it against Coralista, I was eyeing that but I think it looks a little cool for my taste. I’ll be sure to check this out when it’s released. Tonight I went to the Beyonce concert and it was, for lack of a better word, FIERCE. =)

    That looks sooo pretty! =D
Unfortunately Chanel always has a pretty price tag too T_T *sob*

Quite tempted to get coralista though…

I really like the Chanel blush, do you think it would work with super pale skin?

I have had a JC in rose petale for ages and use it pretty much every day and it still loooks brand new! These last ages so I personally think they are worth the price tag.

    Hi Karen,

I’ve stumbled across your blog some weeks back whilst trying searching for MAC looks. Your blog is just awesome – kudos to you girl!

I purchased Coralista last week but it turns rather pinkish on me and doesn’t have that warm goldy-coral glow which I am looking for. NARS Orgasm seems to work but am getting somewhat bored with it. I am of Indian origin and have a medium skintone (MAC’s NC35). Which coral blush do you think will work better for me??

      Hi Kewal,

Oh! I think I know what might work for you… have you ever tried Nars’ Torrid? It’s a golden coral that’s less pink than Orgasm. MAC’s Sunbasque is a good one, too. 🙂

Hi Karen. I have In Pink. It is beautiful. Your swatch reminds me of Coralista and I really should go and check it out because it looks so pretty.

In response to Karen’s response to Kewal: I’m of Indian origin as well (NC 40) and Nars Torrid works beautifully. I have it and love it. You should apply it with a light hand though because it’s easy to get carried away with this one.

I love that you’ve put off your homework with makeup, I have to admit that instead of going to the library yesterday I ended up going to Nordies to get a new bronzer (ended up with NARS Laguna), but I did see In Love along with all the new coral blushes out and… well… not to be corny, but the name says it all! However, for some reason I couldn’t justify buying it! I have so many coral blushes~

What do you think, I’m NC20/25… worth it? Maybe I’ll reward myself after I get my paycheck on Friday.

Judging from the swatched I like Dior’s the best. That Chanel sure looks good on you though! You’re right, Benefit’s looks pink to me. I’m going to check it out next time I’m at Sephora though.

Hmmmm… I am now definitely going to have to check out both the Chanel and the Dior in person. And oh! I’m going to be looking for a bronzer soon (maybe for my bday on Sunday lol) – do you have any recs for that?

speaking of blushes… i have joined the cult of orgasm.

i was wearing NOTHING today except orgasm blush and sex machine velvet matte lip pencil (topped off with a little body shop lip butter) – that i got in the NARS love set with some drugstore point-rebate discounts, no mascara, no concealer, nothing, and i got three guy friends who usually notice nothing about my look say i looked nice!

the chanel one looks nice. i was wondering if it would be too dark on me (NC 15, maybe 20).

going to be staying in tonight, working on the last paper of the semester!

I bought and love the Chanel blush and I just can’t get enough of it. I wear MAC NC 43 and In Love with a little extra shimmer on the cheekbones is my favorite thing right now. The color can go on sheer or can go on with a little more punch. Can’t get enough!!!

Karen if you love coral blushes, then you. MUST try nars’ torrid!! I just bought it today and have already ‘tried’ it three times. It is that amazing. Chanel’s blush also looks good but I gotta break the bank to support my makeup habbit

Thanks Karen & Preeti! Unfortunately, NARS is not sold in Singapore *sniff sniff*. A friend is going to Australia next week – will ask her to get it for me.

    Cheers,
    Kewal
