I’m Getting a Charge Out of Dior Electric Tropics Nude Healthy Glow Powder in Sunset

Published in: Makeup, Product Reviews

Hey, cutie. Remember the Dior Electric Tropics collection you and I drooled over last week? Today I spent some time getting to know one of the limited edition Nude Healthy Glow Powders, Sunset #002 ($46), and now we’re officially attached.

Sunset’s a warm orangey brown with coral accents (like a blush version of MAC Soft Brown Eyeshadow), and I swear it’s just as gorgeous in person as it is in the promo pics. Here I’m wearing it on my cheeks as a blush, but I also tried (and liked) it as a bronzer and an all-over face powder.

Additional makeup worn in this look: Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Golds 569, MAC Eye Kohl in Powersurge, LORAC Front of the Line Pro Liner, NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener, Becca Ultimate Mascara and Benefit Brows A-Go-Go on eyes; MAC Lipglass in Lychee Luxe on lips

For me, the mostly matte finish is what makes this stand out in a crowd. It gives off just the faintest touch of shimmer and looks fresh and weightless on the skin.

Even though it’s a summer release, I could see myself wearing this all year round, even on blustery days as a bronzer to warm my pale skin (well, pale for me). Knowing I could reach for it often soothes the sting from the price…a little.

The Nude Healthy Glow Powder in Sunset and the rest of the eclectic Electric Tropics Collection hit Dior counters and stores nationwide this summer.

PRICE: $46 (ouch!)
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to Dior counters and stores
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (an A if not for the price)

I know they’re out of season, but…

I’ve been craving tomatoes lately, so last night I made this quick tomato salad, which I served with pan fried salmon, steamed broccoli and brown rice, YUM!

Isn’t it pretty? It’s one of my favorite simple salads to eat with fish, chicken or fried tofu. And it’s a cinch to make. The tomatoes are mini-heirlooms from Trader Joe’s. All I did was chop them up, add a dash of sea salt and pepper, and mix. I thought about drizzling some olive oil on top… I bet that would have been even more delicious, but the salmon was already rich.

Enough about my unseasonable fruit cravings. St. Patrick’s Day is here!

Do you have any plans? El Hub and I might visit a local Irish bar tomorrow night, but Tabs can’t go because last year he partied too hard and got himself banned.

ooh its gorgeous! It reminds me of a blend between NARS Taj Mahal and MAC Enough Said- perfect blend between bronzy brown and orange! I think I’m going to have to give this a look

No plans to go out, but I’ll be making one of my favorite dishes which is kinda, sorta Irish in inspiration. It’s basically some cooked, diced potatoes sauteed with onions, sliced veggie sausages, and a bag of shredded green cabbage. It’s yummy, easy, and perfect for a rainy day.

    • Karen says:

That recipe sounds delicious! I think I’m going to try it this weekend. What veggie sausages do you like to use?

      • Heidi says:

I like the Trader Joe’s brand of Italian Sausage that they carry in the deli section right where all the soy products are. They carry another national brand of veggie Italian sausage (Yves, I think), but I find that one has too much sundried tomato/basil flavor going on that tends to overpower everything else in the dish.

  4. LOVE the weaving effect, it’s gorgeous!

it would be a bit orange for me, but it looks fab on you 🙂

Wow….that is GORGEOUS. Too bad I’m too cheap to spend $46 on it haha (even more here in Canada).

P.S., Tabs is looking spiffy 😉

  6. Paris B says:

Ahh it looks as gorgeous on you as it does in the pan! 😀 I’m eyeing Aurora myself or maybe First Light which is an Asia Exclusive 😀

The weave effect is so beautiful and so’s the colour, but I like the design more and proabably would worship it as a piece of art and be scared to ruin the motif by using it, lol.

Tabs’s looking pretty intently at the camera in that photo above – was there a green leprechaun dancing off camera?

  11. Kim says:

Tell Tabs not to worry – that stuff happens. 🙂

How beautiful is that Dior compact and the pattern on the powder? I love it!

I agree with you on the tomatoes and, even though they’re almost always out of season here, I eat the Campari version all year long. Nothing compares to tomatoes here in August, but these are still nice. Tomato salad (and caprese) are 2 of my favorite things! 🙂

    • Karen says:

Haha, I’ll let him know! 😀

Ooh, if you try the Dior and it’s not sparkly enough for you, you can always dust a little glitter on top of your cheeks!

  12. Alka says:

Soooo pretty! I’m still too intimidated by highly pigmented blush and bronzer so I will have to pass on this one for the time being.

Nothing says warm weather like a fresh tomato salad! I like mine with fresh basil….yum!

@Karen – lock up the fridge while you are out tonight or Tabs might just be hosting a turkey party for his boyz and a few leprechauns! 😀

    • Karen says:

I looove basil too! I’ll try it with some chopped basil next time I make it.

And that’s a good idea re: the fridge. I just opened up a fresh packet of turkey yesterday and wouldn’t be surprised if it was gone when I got home. 😉

  13. Nina says:

that salad looks awesome … i am a huge tomato fan too! we make a similar salad, the only diff is i cut the tomatoes in half, do a quick grill on a stove top grill pan to give it a bit of a charred flavor, then add salt, tomatoes and the littlest bit of sugar. its lovely with fish and chicken and even as a side to a good sandwich!

    • Karen says:

That’s a great idea! I have a non-stick grill pan that I got a few years back that I hardly ever use… I dunno, the char doesn’t ever seem to come out quite right. Maybe I’m not turning the heat up enough?

      • Nina says:

its probly the heat. if all else fails – spray some nonstick cooking spray in a pan and just warm the tomatoes up …. it makes the juices run out more, and kinda makes a natural dressing for the tomato salad.

you can also add cubed cucumbers or chopped onions! 🙂

  14. Martha says:

I am drooling over your dinner! I need to get to Trader Joe’s again soon.

  15. Melissa says:

This truly does light up your face and you look flawless. Such a beautiful powder! This might be my Dior splurge (although I’m a fair-skinned girlie and you are Hawaiian tropicallygorgeous) I should go try and see if it looks on me too!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Melissa,

This would be great if you wear orangey browns well. There’s another version of it coming out that’s more pink which also looks promising!

      Hi Alice,

More and more mattes have been showing up over the last few years. What’s cool is that they don’t seem to be as flat as they were in the ’90s.

This bronzer itself looks SO pretty, and it looks great on you. I also like that it is fairly matte and would be much more appropriate to use in the colder months. So you aren’t a shimmer ball of bronzer. Even in the summer I always feel like my bronzer is too shimmery!

  24. Megan says:

Psst, Karen…okay, I love the powder and may even try it on my vampire-pale skin…but what I really want is your salmon recipe. Share? 🙂

    • Karen says:

      Hi Megan,

It’s really easy. I just warm up a tablespoon of olive oil in a pan, sprinkle some salt and pepper on some salmon filets, and then fry it right up. When it’s done I let the salmon rest on some paper towels to soak up the excess grease and then squeeze lemon on top. Super simple!

  25. Rae says:

I gotta give it to ya, girl – it must have taken a *lot* of bravery to dig into that gorgeous pan 😛 Your photos make this one look just as lovely (or perhaps even lovelier) than the promo photos; I know I’d have a hard time marring that gorgeous surface!

  26. Michelle says:

So pretty! I am really wanting this bronzer in Aurora. I can’t wait until it comes out 🙂

  27. LuvJaime says:

Aaahhhh!! (that’s my wallet screaming, by the way) I want this now as well as the new Chanel bronzers coming out! Have you peeped those?

  28. Looks like a must have for me–like the fact that is has just a touch of shimmer. How do you think it will work for fair skinned lasses? (since it’s St. Patty’s Day)
