Summertime means being able to wear brighter nail colors like corals, hot pinks and even sparkly blues or purples without looking like crazy nail lady. Here are a few ideas to brighten up your fingers and toes.
- Essie Summer 2008 Nail Polish Collection: Help!
“After washing off my neon-orange fingers and chewing three Tums (note to file: do not eat half a bag of cheese crunchies in one sitting), I pulled out my Essie Summer 2008 nail polish stash and painted each of the nails on my left hand (and the pointer finger on my right) different colors. This is what too many cheese crunchies can make a woman do.” - China Glaze Text in Colour 2BHOT: Holographic Hotness
“The 2BHOT colors are a bit flashier/more club kid than my usual pink, peach, and coral nail color choices, but I really like them. The funky way the colors seem to change in the light adds another dimension to these polishes that makes them a lot of fun.” - Chanel Flamingo Nail Colour: My Sunday Morning Manicure
“Part of Chanel’s summer 2008 collection, Flamingo is a soft, pale pink with flecks of shimmery silver. I swooned when I first saw it in the store a few weeks ago; I have a well-documented weakness for pink.” - China Glaze Ink Nail Polish: Wow, That’s Bright
“The set includes six bright and slightly obnoxious colors, a cute packet of nail decals, a wee bottle of black polish (great for drawing patterns on the other nail colors) and a bottle of orange-scented cuticle oil.” - China Glaze OMG Text in Colour 2BKEWL Nail Polishes
“I’m lucky enough to live close to my parents, so tomorrow I’m heading home to visit my mom for Mother’s Day. I thought it might be fun if she and I painted our nails a matching color. Here’s the twist: I would like it to be a slightly obnoxious color, so her yoga friends at the senior center can ask her about it (‘Girl, I saw those nails from across the room while I was mid-downward dog!’).”
Right now I’m wearing coral on my toes and sheer pink on my fingers. How about you? Do you have a current favorite nail color?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Karen sweet mani and pedi as doc’d in the last post! My fav color of all time is OPI’s Passionate Purple. It’s not purple though it’s friggin hot pink! Another fav of mine was by Jane called Starry night and it was super dark blue with silver sparkles. I’m on the lookout for a dupe since it’s discontinued! I do also love Lincoln Park After Dark by OPI.

Hi Tania,
That’s funny that Passionate Purple is actually pink! And that Jane color sounds really pretty. 🙂 What shades are ya wearing now?
Karen says
Hi Terre,
I have but have yet to try it out! I kinda got neon overload after using China Glaze’s Ink collection. 🙂 Are you wearing your Bermuda Shorts shade right now?
Miss QQ says
Hi Karen. I’m wearing Chanel Flamingo today. I like your Lippmann pedicure, its perfect for summer. I have OPI Elephantastic Pink, a carnation pink. It doesn’t flatter my skin tone although I like the shade…
Meaghan says
Have you ever tried Zoya polishes? I hear they last?

Hi Karen
I’ve known your blog for a while now but have never posted. Love your posts and you’re so adorable! It’s really nice to see the shades on a real person or at least in the containers instead of those little square simulation! those really drive me crazy.
I absolutely love sheer pink nail polish. It goes with everything but doesn’t feel “safe” in a “boring” way. Hey, do you like sheer lavender? It looks kinda like the sheer pink on the nails but more whitish and it’s very natural.

I’ve been into bright red toenail polish ever since our school concert (we all wore bright red for the Spanish theme and as we did our act barefoot we wore some on our toes as well)

I have a beautiful teal-green by Nicole for Opi on my toes, and nothing on my fingernails! I’m currently lusting after NARS’ new polish in Orgasm (only available in a set with the lipgloss right now), and the upcoming Rodeo Drive purple polish by Chanel! Want! 🙂
Amanda says
my fingers are bare right now (work is really hard on my hands, I can’t get them from getting chipped when I have polish). But when I *do* paint em up I love “interesting” sheers/nudes, if that makes sense.
For toes, anything goes! sometimes the crazier the better too. I’m a year round “crazy nail lady” on toes at least. I love blues, greens, purples, corals, all finishes (except on i’m not super crazy about chunky glitter). Currently my toesies are opi strawberry fields-bright hot pink from last summer’s collection. I think I’m going to change them this weekend to zoya’s creamy (bright yellow).

“elephantastic pink” by OPI on the toes & french on the fingernails. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Sally,
I got the email too, and thanks for the link!:)
Karen says
Hi Miss QQ,
Oh I love Pink Flamingo, especially on toes. 🙂
Hmm, maybe you can layer your OPI with another shade to change it? I’ve done that before with polishes that don’t look quite right on me and it’s fun… kinda like a science experiment!
Karen says
Hi Meaghan,
Nope, not yet. I do want the set that they have named after The Hills girls!
Karen says
Hi Emme,
I know! Those lil’ square drive me nuts, too, because you can never really tell what color they are.
I do love sheer lavender! I have an essie shade (can’t remember which one) that’s a light purple that’s very pretty. Do you have a specific color that’s your fave?
Karen says
Hi Karen B.,
Bright red is always classic and elegant. 🙂 I gotta say, from the description of your classes, it sounds like you go to the coolest school EVER!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
The Orgasm polish looks very hot.
And those Robertson Boulevard polishes… all I can do is drool. I’ve decided I want the yellow on!
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Creamy sounds pretty! I’m currently enamored with the thought of yellow polish and I’m lookin’ for one to satisfy my lust. 🙂 I will have to look into that!
Karen says
Hi Meaghan,
Yup! It’s a beautiful collection.:)
Karen says
Hi Christine,
Cute! It’s been a while since I’ve done a French mani; I’ve always liked how elegant they look.
Emme says
Hi Karen,
I normally didn’t even bother about nail polish and I thought french manicure would be boring but it’s not! I’m loving the idea of risky colors too and getting open to all shades that I’m freaking myself out! But I have only bought two polishes, sheer pink and sheer lavender. nothing fancy but they’re cute.
Karen B says
Well, the extra things like concerts and choir are cool. But we have boring classes as well…

I consider myself addicted to nail polish, and i change my color often. Right now I’m wearing OPI in Italian Love Affair, which is a sweet , innocent pink. I love all OPI products; the brush is wide and makes the polish easy to apply, and the colors are true to life and stay on ! All OPI products are good quality for a reasonable price, and it’s just about the only nail polish I wear.
