China Glaze Ink Nail Polish: Wow, That’s Bright

May 20th, 2008 by Karen 35 Comments

I don’t have any tattoos, but I always knew that if I got one it would be colorful, maybe like these tattoo-inspired shades from China Glaze’s Ink collection ($24.12, 8-piece collection).

They’re sold either individually or as part of an eight-piece set. The set includes six bright and slightly obnoxious colors, a cute packet of nail decals, a wee bottle of black polish (great for drawing patterns on the other nail colors) and a bottle of orange-scented cuticle oil.

I was pretty stoked to give the colors a try when I spotted the kit because I’ve been going through a bright nail polish phase. I couldn’t wait to try these colors on.

Blue Sparrow

Flying Dragon

Rose Among Thorns

Sacred Heart

Japanese Koi

Celtic Sun

Hmm… After getting all the colors on my nails, I’m a little unsure how I feel about them. I like Sacred Heart and Rose Among Thorns, but the other four shades don’t really compliment my skin tone. I gotta hand it to China Glaze for going bold with the colors in this collection, but I’m thinking the INK shades are just too bright for my taste. I think I’m more fond of the colors in their recent Text in Colour collection — 2BKEWL and 2BHOT.

What do you think of INK? Pretty? Scary?

Check out the China Glaze site for more pics and details of the INK collection, or purchase the full set online at Head2Toe Beauty.

Hope you had a fabulous Tuesday! Tonight I have a hot date with the elliptical machine at the gym. What are your plans for this evening?

Karen

Wow, I thought I would really like this set, but yeah, they just aren’t ringin’ my bell either. Is the blue and the purple scratchy/chunky? Would you say you’d have to put a clear coat on top to make it smooth?

Hmm, yeah, I def want the 2BKewl set, but this one I think I can pass on.

Yes, it’s CHUNKY. Big ole’ chunks of glitter, too. When I run my other nails against ’em they actually make a sound, like a emery board.

Hmm. I have a tattoo of a sacred heart, so I’ll definitely have to at least take a look at that color. Thanks for the post!

I recently got into nail polishes and I really like Rose Among Thorns. Most of the nail polishes I have are either OPI or MAC.

    Thanks for the swatches.

The first two colors I’d consider, but only if they were metallics. Not into glitter much. I couldn’t find the ones from your previous entries at Ulta. You gotta tell me where you get these!

    Hi Jessica,

Oh nice! I bet it’s very pretty. What made you decide to get that particular tattoo?

    Hi Lehea,

Yeah, it’s kinda chunky glitter. It’s definitely not as fine as the other collections. You can get the OMG Text in Color ones on amazon (I think I linked it in the post).

    Hi Vivien,

I saw the Neo-Sci Fi polishes and I got a lil’ excited about them too! For some reason I’m really liking Phosphor, the yellow.

I like Flying Dragon, but I’m already committed to the purple Chanel polish that’s coming out in July! Not sure how many purples I really need! I’m going to Total Beauty tomorrow to check out the Essie Guilty Pleasures though!

I really like Sacred Heart and maybe Flying Dragon just for my toes. Glitter is hot!! Celtic Sun is definitely not my cup of tea.

Hope you’re getting ready for Hump Day! The three-day weekend is that much closer (yes!)

    Hi Meredith,

They’re for sale online; there’s a link above for Head2Toe Beauty. Another thing you could do is contact the China Glaze folks (they have a website where you can e-mail them) and ask them who are the distributors in your local area. That way you can see them in real life before buying. 🙂

Replying super late: I got the sacred heart tattoo when I was just 20 years old (I’m 33 now) and had a very rock-and-roll boyfriend — so youth and influence was a big part of it! But really, I just liked the art a lot. It’s based on a woodcut by a friend of that (now ex) bf. And I am a pretty religious person, although I was more into religious art for ironic reasons back then.

Since I am a sucker for product names, this polish is going on the list!
