Dior Electric Lights Palette Face of the Day

Can I get an AMEN from all the makeup procrastinators out there? Oh, you *know* who you are, LOL! When you should be finishing that assignment or organizing those files you bust out the makeup and brushes and do a two-hour eye look instead. I’m right there with ya, girlfriend.

I’ve got a paper due tomorrow, but instead of getting down to business, I spent half the morning playing with the new Dior Electric Lights Palette, AHHH!

Eyes

So far, I’m really liking Dior Electric Lights. The light blues don’t apply as frosty as I thought they might. That’s what I expected when I first swatched the colors on the back of my hand.

Another surprise: the light baby blue shade in the lower left hand corner applies surprisingly sheer, and it has a duo-chrome quality to it that totally reminds me of a blue MAC Stars N’ Rockets.

Cheeks and lips

Once again I decided to go with Dior Coral Riviera (aka my new blush crush) on the cheeks, but to change things up a little I layered NARS Multiple in Orgasm beneath it. I think the result is a great natural flush, but what do you think?

To wrap up the look, I lightly dotted sheer pink Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick in Artist Pink on the lips.

Well, my fun’s over for at least the next few hours. I’ll be chained to my desk, working on that project for school, but at least I’ll look glam while fussing over those transitions! :)

Are you glammed up today or keeping it natural? Tell me what makeup you’re wearing in the comments!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

gosh, i looooove that palette. and i really like ur necklace, karen! are they natural pearls?

i have nothing on my face today, nor have i worn makeup in a few days now since i’ve gone nowhere special really.

i know u take classes and have this website, do u have a full-time job as well?? u must have a twin that helps u do half these things, lol.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Mishel,

Thanks! I wish the pearls were real! I got it in the costume jewelry section at Macy’s on sale. :)

Sometimes I think it’s nice to give your face and skin a break from makeup! It gives pores a breather, ya know?

I used to work part time at a literary agency but now I’m doing freelance writing work along with the blog and school.

How’s your week been so far? Do you start your new job soon?

  2. YadiQ says:

lol i do that al the time

i should be working at the office but i disappear for an hour to the bathroom and do my makeup lol if boss is out i do it at my desk and take my time

i am right with ya girl!

i have a dior palette i got last spring called sky glow has a similar blue with some silvers, brown and taupes

i am loving this one but i am scared to get it cause the light blue may be too similar

looks super pretty on you though

side question: pop shadows how do you like their textures i ordered quite a few palettes at beauty crunch and was curious your thoughts since youhave reviewed a few of their products before!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Yadi,

I think I know which one you’re talking about. Yeah, unless you wear blue every day this might be too similar.

Oh! Did you order the wallets on Beauty Crunch? I’ve been eyeing those for a hot minute! Pop shadows remind me of Tarte’s or Clinique’s — not as buttery as Shu or Dior, but they aren’t overly grainy. I remember the pigmentation being medium. I like ‘em!

  3. Whirl says:

    Whoaa!
Thanks Karen!I thought you forgot about it.
Try pairing it with a babydoll pink blush, you’ll be surprised how cool the colours will work together.

P.S.Will definitely vote for your blog now.
    Thanks again!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Whirl,

You’re welcome! And thank you for the vote. :)

Next time I try this look again I’ll bust out some pink blush (thanks for the idea!). I’m thinking MAC Dollymix will work nicely.

Do you think you’ll be picking up this palette?

  4. Faye says:

They look fab, Karen! Do you know if these products are out yet?

  5. tali says:

  6. Bj says:

GORGEOUS Karen, not that I’d expect any less from you. This palette really looks fun, and you sealed the deal for me it looks gorgeous on you. Im kinda glam today myself, it was rainy so i played with makeup lucky for me cause now the suns out. Im wearin studiosculpt foundation from mac, mac harmony blush for some contouring,A lil coralista. For eyes i used mac liner in teddy, and a shimmer bronze over it for a smudged smoke effect on top and bottom, and loads of mascara compliments of diorshow and rimmel sexy curves

  7. Ariell says:

Wow! I Love it! Thanks for trying it on:)
Is this palette out yet? I’m so excited for spring!

Today I’m a little glam and a little natural. Chanel Lagoon Shadow, and Canmake(Japanese) blush in a peachy pink, liner, mascara, and just chapstick. That’s the natural part heehee.

good luck on your paper karen, mine went ok I guess.. I was just happy to get it done and not think about it later on…hmm I am not a fan of blues, I love my greens though…dior has very subtle blues, generally. so i guess they are wearable. I am not wearing any makeup today, I am at home…so I just washed my face..maybe I’ll exfoliate it later on? haha just being lazy.

I got the sweat on and never again!!
After 1 hour kickboxing and then some weight training.. parts of my body ached that I didnt know existed. Im still suffering today! Im gonna stick with the little trampoline I bought for my house. Bouncing infront of the tv is more my style!!

My waterproof liner however (badgal benefit) lasted the entire session!! I bought it after I saw your review and am oh so glad.

Good luck with the paper!! 2 squares of chocolate help give your body a boost and brain a break!

  10. Glosslizard says:

That liner blue is amazing! I wish they had it as a single, because the other four colors are ok, but not shell-out-the-dough-for-a-quint fantastic! ;) I’m still majorly crushing on the Pearly Lilac quint for the gorgeous purples and complementary shades!

Today I’m slightly glammed! I busted out the Guerlain pearly bronzer today for the first time this season and wore it with MAC MSF in Blonde to highlight the cheekbones! Eyes were pale pinks from the Dior Petal Shine quint with an anonymous brown from one of the Stila duos in the outer V. I lined with Shu Uemura drawing pencil in brown and finished with Chanel Exceptionnel mascara in Smoky Violine on the lashes. Lips were MAC Strawbaby with a sheer layer of Gazelle for shine!

Ha! Bronzer and Gazelle! Can you tell it’s been sunny? :D

  11. Elissa says:

Oooooo. I love that on you. I think that camera doesn’t do it justice, because I think that the flash is really making the white shimmer pop more than it does in real life. But, I’m lovin’ it, girl! I don’t think I could pull it off with my Hazel eyes though.

  12. Paris B says:

Uhoh… I love blue eyeshadow and you are making me want this one BAD! :P We are only getting our Summer Dior in May so I’ll report in later :)

    Hi Karen,

Today I wore Nars orgasm cream blush (love it!) on bare skin, with black liquid eyeliner, a little pinkish eyeshadow, black mascara and Clinique raspberry superbalm. Simple and easy but I felt great.

  15. Stacie says:

Hi Karen! I think it’s time to delurk, since I read your blog every single day! Seriously, I think I’m mildly obsessed with it. I’ll see something in the store and be like, “I need this, Karen says such and such…” and hubby is like, “Who the heck is Karen?” LOL. Anywho, I’m a bit in lust with this Dior palette, or at least the pictures. I don’t have any good blue palettes. Of course, it’s Dior, so it’s a bit pricey… but when has that ever stopped me? ;)
As for my makeup today, I’m rocking the Clinique Coffee Shop duo on my eyes, Nars Orgasm blush as usual, and Clinique lipgloss in Air Kiss. That’s the second day in a row I’ve worn mostly Clinique. I need to put on some Urban Decay tomorrow, I think!

  16. Shiny says:

I feel you Karen on the procrastinating bit… I just finished a couple of hellish school weeks and tonight instead of beginning work on the next thing I’m slacking… I never do learn.

Today I did a green eye (NYX), orgasm on cheeks and body shop lip gloss with a nude pink liner underneath to turn the colour more fuchsia. It’s a look I really enjoy :)

    Good luck with the paper!

  17. Catherine says:

Wow, that palette looks sooo pretty on you! I’m considering getting it now… all my blues are a little grayish, but these look bright and gorgeous!

    Hi, Karen
You are gorgeous no matter what you wear, but I have to admit, this look is not one of my favorites on you. I find the cool blues too over the top/jarring with your warm coloring. Having said that, you still look better than I ever could on a good day. =]

  19. Sanayhs says:

That blush combo works beautifully on you! The necklace is a lot of fun, too – I’m a big fan of multi-strand necklaces.

Nice look! Are we telepathic or what because I did a blue eyed look last night too! I will definitely post up soon. It’s been raining like cats and dogs over here so a lil’ bit of blue e/s cheers me up.

How’s Tabs doing? Remember that kitten I told you about? I fed him bread and butter and he ate it. Will send Tabs some pictures of his long lost bro (oh yeah, the kitty is a boy!)

Dao´s last blog post..Oh Happy April Fool’s Day!

  21. Karen B says:

Totally natural today. A wash of ricepaper all over the eye and some mascara. I had to get up early and was so not in the mood to put on a lot of make-up. Oh and I slapped on some Modesty lipstick.

  22. redhead says:

OMG, this is SO ironic! I did almost the EXACT same look today, only I used products from MAC, the Body Shop, and some drugstore products! Ladies, if you want a cheaper version of this look, here’s my how-to. :)
    Products used:
L’Oreal Bare Natural Minerale Finishing Powder in Translucent
Maybelline Expert Wear Brow Pencil in Dark Brown
    MAC Paint in Bare Canvas
Some matte, royal blue kohl liner that is so short I can’t find the name of – a good (though shimmery) dupe is MAC Powerpoint Liner in Navy Stain.
MAC Electra eyeshadow, MAC Nocturnelle eyeshadow, MAC Shroom eyeshadow, MAC Carbon Eyeshadow, MAC Filament eyeshadow
    MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
    Maybelline Full’n'Soft Mascara
The Body Shop Sparkle & Shimmer Powder Puff in Sunset Peach (This is discontinued- try MAC’s Peachykeen dusted with a small amount of Dollymix for the same effect and color.)
The Body Shop Born Lippy Balm in Strawberry
    Now for the tutorial! :D

Apply Truanslucent Minerale Powder on the nose and T-zone to reduce shine. Apply Bare Canvas paint from lashline to brow bone with your finger. Apply Shroom all over the paint, and on the brow bone. Apply Naval Stain Powerpoint Liner about halfway up lid, and blend with a finger to just above the crease, to create a royal blue stain on the lid. Be sure to coat the entire inner lid with Naval Stain – this is essential to creating a baby blue color with Electra!
Dust Nocturnelle all over the lid, being sure to concentrate the purple near the lashline and keep the blue of Naval Stain. Apply Electra eyeshadow dusted with Filament on the inner lid to create a light silver-blue shade. Draw a thin line of Engraved Powerpoint Liner on the upper lashline as close to lashes as possible, and lightly smudge with a finger. Apply Engraved on the lower lashline and smudge with Nocturnelle. Apply another layer of Nocturnelle over that, and then take MAC Pencil Brush, coat the bristles with Naval Stain liner (I just ran the tip of my pencil on the brush to do this) and run it over your purple-black bottom liner stain. Apply Maybelline Full’n'Soft mascara to your top lashes. Fill in, color, and shape the brows with Lingering Eye Brows. Apply a light dusting of Sunset Peach S&S Powder Puff with a small blush brush to the cheekbones for a soft contour. Finish the look by patting a small amount of Strawberry Born Lippy Balm on the upper lip and pressing lips together.

This all looks fabulous on you. I am loving Dior right now. I hope you’re getting some sleep this weekend!
