Guess what…? There’s a Sephora VIB sale in November, so this week I’m highlighting some of my favorite makeup workhorses that I think are worthy of your wish list.
Ignore the inside voice inside your head that’s always saying, “Do you really neeeed another neutral eyeshadow palette?” because this one with its matte neutral brown and beige eyeshadows, and its shimmery taupe, gold and copper accent shades, parts the clouds for me, and I say this as an unabashed hoarder of neutral palettes. I love them because you can wear them all the time and for any occasion. But the Tartelette in Bloom Palette rises above the rest IMO.
I use this palette to “cheat” the look of a deeper set eye, which is something I deal with every day since I have hooded lids. This 16-pan palette bucks the current trend of warm red and orange-y browns, and instead boasts a bevy of cool-toned shades and neutral browns, which are great for carving out a crease.

The makeup maestros at Tarte found a way to seamlessly weave these long-lasting, pigmented shadows into each other so that even if you’re rushing (or, even if you don’t know what you’re doing), you can still buff and blend your way into something that looks like you spent hours on it.

You can take any combination of its colors and whip out a pretty quick look. I usually like to do light beige underneath my brow bone and inside the inner corner, a medium brown in the crease and outer corner to deepen my eye, a lighter brown transition shade, and then a darker brown to line my lash lines.
I’ve loved this palette for years, but I’ve been using it more than any neutral shadows in my collection lately. I wear it to business lunches, school drop-offs, meetings I have with the mothers club I’m part of, on errands… Everywhere, really. If you want something you can wear on any occasion, any time of year, this is it. It’s $39, but with the 20% VIB discount you can get it for $31.20, and with the 15% Beauty Insider discount you can get it for $33.15.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
That is such a great palette for us brown shadow lovers, but I tried Tarte shadows before and did not like them. I have been in love with my Chanel Clair Obscur palette, but feel like I am missing an Ivory base shade and maybe a shimmery taupe shade. I may check out the NARS single shadows when I have a chance.
Hope all is well.
Hi Jane,
I like that Chanel palette too and wear it a lot! Like you, I have to add a highlighter up in the mix otherwise I feel undone. Which NARS singles do you have in mind?
This is such a beautiful make-up on you.
Love it!
Thank you, Noemi! This is really a typical look for me. When I’m out and about I’m all about neutrals. Have you ever tried this palette before?
Love this palette! This has been my go-to palette for traveling and doing my makeup in the morning before work.
Hi Kristen,
YES! It’s so easy to use and I love how you can pretty much wear it with any lip color or blush. 🙂
Thanks for the recommendation. I went last weekend for the Rouge sale and got a couple things I can’t live without anymore: BOSCIA White Charcoal Mattifying MakeUp Setting Spray, I’m now on my third bottle. I don’t know how I kept my makeup on before this.
I also, replenished my supply of BECCA First Light Priming Filter Face Primer, which makes me look a decade younger.
That was going to be it. I’m really trying to have a no spend November. But, I’m almost out of a couple Sunday Riley things. And I know after the sale is over, I’ll be kicking myself if I don’t take advantage of the 20 percent off.
What are Connor Claire’s plans for Halloween???

Her big plans involve wearing her costume for the umpteenth time this month, LOL! I swear that child has been living in those monarch butterfly wings for the last two weeks. Tomorrow her school has a Halloween parade and a party for the preschoolers. Then in the evening we’ll do early trick-or-treating. What’s on the agenda for you guys?
She is a Star!
This is a great look! But now the only thing I want is the BECCA primer that Jennifer mentioned above. Um, looking a decade younger? Yes, please!!
Thanks, lady! It’s the one I pull outta my pocket when I have like two seconds to make it work. BTW I’ve tried BECCA First Light; for my warm skin it was just OK. The BECCA Backlight Primer, however… MAN. Talk about clouds parting and angels singing!
It is really beautiful! I wait for the day they will reformulate the product without the skin-irritating menthyl lactate, and fragrance ingredients and I will get it!
It really looks like the perfect palette for everyday and the office. As much as I love a bold eye, these colors are just the ones I reach for over and over again!

Have not. Make-up does not stay on me.
I just use mascara and lipstick, mostly.
Hey Karen! I was wondering- how do you feel this compares to the MAC semi sweet palette? Shade and texture wise? I have been wanting a mostly matte neutral palette and my skin is basically the exact same color as yours. This looks fantastic on you!!
Hi Sami
Thanks for the nice compliment! MAC Semi-Sweet is darker overall (here are swatches). I like it but when I’m in a hurry I don’t grab it because buffing out the deep colors is more work than I have time for. Do you live near an Ulta? The IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Palette is also a good one for everyday. I use it all the time!
Thanks for the reply!! I used to own the Naturally Pretty palette actually! It’s the first palette I ever bought, 4 years ago. I enjoyed it for awhile but felt a little disappointed that while the brown tones looked good, all the other colors looked the same on my skin tone. The same sad grey LOL! I’ve had good luck with Too Faced shadows since then, but feel like the color scheme and reduced shimmer in this palette seems more promising. And good to now regarding the MAC palette! I’m gonna have to pick this Tarte one up- thanks so much for your delightful blog and your advice!! Hugs from Ann Arbor, Michigan!
