I feel the same way about matte palettes as a I feel about mascara.
Both are flat-out necessities, and any makeup lover worth her weight in cotton balls should have at least one or two in her (or his) bag.
Well…I don’t know how you feel about that, but that’s my take on it.
There are so many great ones out there, too, and I’m always finding new ones to love, like my latest, the $42 IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Vol 1 Matte Luxe Transforming Eyeshadow Palette, which has been available for a while, but it’s new to me, and I’m totally into it. I wore it a bunch of times last week.
Do you like matte shadows? Because I sure do. I mean, mattes are your friends. They really are. They’re just so useful. I wear at least one matte shadow a day, usually in the crease to sort of contour my eyes to make my sockets look deeper (mine are slightly hooded and seem to be getting more hooded as I get up there in years).
Sometimes I do a single sweep of matte shadow all over the lid (often a matte brown or taupe) for a little definition, and, contrary to the vast majority of YouTube makeup tutorials, you *can* use just one or two shadows if you want. You don’t need to use 12. You will be OK!
And if I’m still feeling extra sassafras after that, I’ll add a colorful liner — maybe a purple, green or teal — along my lash lines.
Yup, I love shimmer and glitter, for sure, but mattes are always there for me, ya know?
The Naturally Pretty Palette has 14 useful, wearable matte powder shadows and an extra pan of “transforming pearl,” which you can tap on top of the matte shades to give them a pearly shimmer.
The mattes are a mix of warm and cool shades that I know I can wear over and over in lots of different looks — like matte beiges, matte browns and matte taupes. There are also some deeper shades in the palette, too, like a couple of dark purples, a navy and an off-black, that you can use as liners or in smoky looks.
Basically, this is a workhorse palette (also cruelty free) for elegant, easy everyday looks, and you won’t have to fight fallout or blend until your wrist falls off.
I swear, this palette has special sauce in it because my lids look smoother and, dare I say it, younger when I wear it. IT Cosmetics highlights the fact that the powders don’t contain talc, so maybe that’s why. I don’t rightly know, but either way, I’m feelin’ it.
Another win from IT Cosmetics. It’s turning into one of my favorite lines.

Hi Bea,
It’s a lovely palette, and it isn’t super expensive, either. How are you liking your Charlotte Tilbury palette? I have one on my wish list. 🙂
Bea says
I’ll play with it tomorrow when I go to work. Supposedly 5 min instant look which is what I need lol

I just picked this palette up recently during the IT Family + Friends 25% sale. I have wanted an all-matte palette for a while and couldn’t find one worth the money…this one is AMAZING. The colors are beautiful. I’ve even used it without primer (not on purpose) and it wore really well throughout the day. I absolutely love the colors and quality. I could see this working out for a lot of peoole as it has a nice balance of cool, warm, and neutral. Love!!!

I like mattes, but I dont think I need a palette. Overall I prefer my single eyeshadows anyway. Mascara though is non negotiable!

I have that palette and I like it. I think the transforming pearl is a cool feature. I should dig it out and wear it more.

I’m delightfully surprised how well the colors swatch since mattes tend to be a little harder to blend and patchier. I also like that there is a pan of pearl to add to things if you like. The black and the dark blue look really good too!
I just don’t feel the need for another palette right now. Not sure what’s up with me lately, but I’ve been wanting better skin, so I’ve been skipping the color products and looking for skincare that is results oriented.
While I can live without the palette, can’t live without mascara.

You know I’ve not been one for matte shadows, but I think I’d like to try creating more depth, I almost have hooded eyes too. Deep set but getting more hooded with age.
