The Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow Quad in Regard Perle Will Shine a Light on Your Eyes

December 20th, 2010 by Karen 55 Comments

chanel regard perle

Every girl remembers her first…Chanel eyeshadow quad. 🙂

Mine was Garden Party. Ah, Garden Party… Just saying the name brings back memories (and a warm, fuzzy feeling) of the first time I laid eyes on that mix of green, peach and pink.

I still love that quad so much that it’s the first thing I thought of when I saw promo pics of the new Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow quad in Regard Perle ($56). I was kindasorta hoping Perle would look more like it in person.

It’s not a Garden Party dupe, but I think it’s very pretty in its own right, particularly if you have a thing for glowy skin.

Each of its four soft powder shadows shine with a mirror-like finish that lights up eyelids when when they’re applied. Chanel channeled pearls this season — or rather the way skin glows when you’re wearing pearls — and here they got it spot on. The chai latte I had last night right before dinner screwed with my sleep, and it was evident all over my face this morning. But a few swipes of Regard Perle today, and my eyes looked visibly brighter and more awake.

Ladies who kneel at the altar of the glitter gods may want to take a look at the shimmery grayish green and peach shades on the quad’s left. Both of them burst with the cutest flecks of silver micro glitter. Be prepared, though, to deal with serious fallout from both of them. They’re kinda powdery and don’t adhere to my skin as well as the other two colors in the quad, so that might be something to keep in mind.

The light beige and salmon pink on the right are the more pigmented of the four. Speaking of that, the beige in the lower right really surprised me. When the light hits it just right, I see subtle flashes of gold and green. The shimmery salmon pink in the upper right may not have the same wow factor as the beige, but I think it’s still a nice complement to the other three shadows.

I like how these colors light up my eyes, but I’d like the quad even more without so much fallout from the glitter.

Kitties can make a difference

Tabs may be a spotlight hog, but today he couldn’t wait to share it with two very special kitties named Chloe (on the left) and Colby (on the right).

They live with reader AmyVA, who you may know from the comments on the blog. Amy won the last Sundays with Tabs caption contest for her caption, “Sometimes, I like to practice my ninja moves on the deck, so the wild turkeys can witness my prowess.”

Being the cool cats that they are, Chloe and Colby convinced Amy to donate her prize money to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, which is the same no-kill rescue shelter where Amy found them years ago. 🙂

Tabs and I think that’s very cool and want to send mad props to Amy, Chloe and Colby for their generosity. Way to go, guys!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Chloe and Colby and Amy – you three are awesome 🙂 🙂

I got the Birds of Paradise quad – my first Chanel eyeshadow. I really don’t like the glitter fall out. I prefer the singles – also because I am very new to makeup and eyeshadow = pat one colour over entire eyelid 😀

I love the shadow singles too. Do you have Lily or Nomade? I like either for a quick wash of color over the lid.

That’s a lovely quad, really pretty colours. I will be passing on the quad though in favour of the Les Perles eyshadow palette.

I remember my first quad too, it was called Influences and was really pretty neutrals I loved it but it has long since been discontinued 🙁

    Hi Karen,
Wow! You look great in those pictures. Did you also apply some shadow underneath your eyes?

Your foundation looks flawless. What are you wearing in those photos? I am currently using Skin Food bb cream Peach Pore Sake (as in the japanese liquor Sake). It has only been 3 days, so can’t realy say anything yet. But it does make my skin look flawless and pores smaller.

Have you tried any bb cream yet? What do you think about them?

      Hi Arumanis,

Yes, I did apply shadow beneath the lower lash line. That’s the glittery green shade with the glitter peach shade layered on top.

As for the foundation, that’s Chanel Mat Lumiere! Here’s the review:

Your picture of Garden Party and Regard Perlé is a good illustration of why it’s not always possible to duplicate a look with another set of colors. Although Garden Party and Regard Perlé look similar in the pan, the finished look they achieve is quite different. I love Garden Party, but it definitely doesn’t have that rich, pearl lustre that is so evident in Regard Perlé.

In the beauty biz, change is the name of the game. Formulations, textures, and pigments are constantly evolving. Creativity abounds. Innovation is limited only by one’s imagination. Why would anyone want to limit themselves to something that has become passé? To answer the question, “Hasn’t Regard Perlé been done before?” Yes, we’ve seen this basic color scheme before. No, we haven’t seen these colors with their subtle differences in hue and with this degree of glow and blendability. And so, although I have Garden Party, I bought Regard Perlé because it has a more modern twist.

Re: Fallout. I pat rather than swipe. I also use Kanebo Sensai eye base which is very smooth and moisturizing. I haven’t experienced any problem with fallout even with Tentation Cuivreé’s baked formula.

Garden Party was my first Chanel quad too! And now I’m a huge fan. I love rather permanent collection than limited editions. Limited eyeshadow quads usually tend to warm tones which is doesn’t work for me. More than that, my basic colors are green and violet rather then beige. But spring collection made my heart beat faster! Chanel did it when I lost the hope to get impressed:)
