The Chanel Les Contrastes de Chanel Collection: These Rouge Coco Lipsticks Sing Songs of Summer for Fall 2010

June 23rd, 2010 by Karen 52 Comments

Chanel Les Contrastes de Chanel Collection Fall 2010 Rouge Coco

Dagnabbit, Coco! Why you gotta make me fall in love with you over and over again? Your three new limited edition (I just found out these shades are being added to the permanent line, huzzah!) Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour Lipsticks ($30 each) from the fall 2010 Les Contrastes de Chanel Collection sing a summery song of seduction, and you know what? I’m totally listening.

Each fall dark, serious shades and heavy matte textures crop up on makeup counters, so the pink, peach and coral lippies in Les Contrastes are welcome breaks from the norm. The colors make me think of summer sunsets, like the one I just missed tonight!

Chalys, the shimmery coral, adds a bright but not overwhelming pop of color to pouts; while the other two shades offer sophisticated options for nude lip looks. Try Chintz (the soft peach) if you wear warm-toned shades well, or Rose Dentelle (the cool baby pink) if cooler colors suit you better.

All three colors grace lips with that classic Rouge Coco texture — smooth, light and oh so moisturizing.

The last time I felt this inspired by a Chanel fall collection was 2007’s Garden Party. Yah, last year’s Venice Collection had some memorable moments, but lipstick-wise, I think these three new shades are a lot more exciting and wearable.

Did I mention that I love these to bits? Le sigh! Available next month at Chanel counters and online at chanel.com. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. We made it over the hump, gals! After the excitement earlier today, I’m happy to report that things slowed down in my neck of the woods. How was the rest of your day?

      Hi Pinksoysauce,

I did… just a month or so ago! I think they’ve finally lightened up enough to show up in pics. 🙂

I think it’s because I’ve actually been good about getting the mop cut as of late. I have the bad habit of letting it grow out and turn into a hot mess, LOL!

How’s your day going so far? We’re almost to Friday, WOOT!

So far I have only gotten round to getting my hands on one Rouge Coco and that is Perle and I love it! I think they are the best lipsticks I have ever tried!

These new colours are stunning! The coral looks amazing on you, I wish I could wear corals but I am too pale to carry them off. So, from this collection I will be going for Rose Dentelle.

Are these limited edition? I wil be gutted if I love the colour and I can’t get replacements!

      Hi Alison,

Perle is my girl! I bust that color out at least once a week. 🙂

As for the limited edition-ness, I’m pretty sure these are LE; let me double check, though.

I saw the lipsticks last week, and while they were pretty, somehow they just didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the colors, especially the purples in the shadow/nail polish. They were more summery. Of course I still bought one :).

      Hi Faye,

I think that’s the whole hook of this collection — it’s a study in contrasting elements. I like it!

I get the concept of contrasts; if there were purple glosses and lipsticks as well as everything else being purple, it would be too much. I guess for me the idea of coral lipsticks just didn’t complement the shadows they have at all. Like for Bobbi Brown’s denim and roses palette, the colors are a contrast, but they still harmonize with each other. To me, coral and purple just didn’t seem like they should be together at all.

Well, I guess I’m the math/science/business person, the artistic appreciation genes must have passed me by 🙂

      Hi Nina,

I think that’s my favorite shade out of the three of ’em. She’s like the softer sister of one of my favorite Chanel shades, Leopard:

I really just “discovered” Chanel products a few months ago. I love the lipsticks and glossimers! I want to start buying some of their quads . . . I just have to be selective because of the price! I think I got introduced to Chanel through your blog 🙂

Oooh Chalys is pretty. I’ve put a serious dent in my Rouge Coco Secret that I know I’ll have an open spot in my makeup bag for this baby when it hits the counters. I did visit my regular Chanel SA at Nordstrom and she said she’d call me as soon as she received their testers so I can start placing my pre-order. I might pass up on some serious Anniversary palettes to make room on my credit card for this Chanel Fall collection and the BB denim & rose palette I peeped from your other post!

These are gorgeous and if I get one, it will definitely be Chintz! I’ve been dropping some serious cash on luxury lippies over the past year (Guerlain Rouge G & YSL Rouge Volupte) and am curious as to how these Rouge Cocos stack up in terms of pigmentation and opacity next to the other 2 brands. I like a one-swipe-full-coverage lipstick; do the Rouge Cocos deliver or are they fairly sheer?

These look like they will have me spending money…. Again.

by the way: I exercised an extreme amount of willpower today. I was at the Antwerp MAC counter and I only got what I really needed: a tube of mascara, a new 210 brush (my brother somehow lost me my first… boooo) and an empty 4 pro-pan palette.
I’m really proud of myself 🙂

I think I “need” the two pink lippes. You appear to have pigmented lips and mine are so darn pigmented that most lipsticks look like MLBB. So if the Rose Dentelle and Chintz show up on your lips, there is hope for me! Thank you for giving us a look at these gorgeous Chanel products. A major haul is planned.
