The 3 Assorted Black Eye Liners Boxed Set from MAC Packed to Go

February 18th, 2011 by Karen 24 Comments

MAC Packed to Go Travel Exclusive Eye Liners

I have always clung to the belief that a woman can never have too many black shoes, black purses or black eyeliners. It’s a world view I sometimes refer to as “smart hoarding,” and while it makes perfect sense to me, non-believers like El Hub consider it just plain ridiculous. 🙂

Maybe it is, but that doesn’t change the fact that I was pretty much pre-ordained to like the new 3 Assorted Black Eye Liners boxed set from the MAC Packed To Go collection of travel exclusives (click here for a full list of boxed sets in the release).

What are MAC travel exclusives?

Well, MAC isn’t the only brand with them, but travel exclusives are individual products (and sometimes entire collections) sold primarily through domestic and international travel hubs like airports and duty free stores. Prices and availability can vary widely, but tracking ’em down can be a lot of fun!

This particular boxed set, one of many in MAC’s new lineup of spring 2011 travel exclusives, comes with three full-size MAC eyeliners — the Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline, Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Engraved and Penultimate Liner in Rapidblack — in subtly different shades of black.

  1. The mighty Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline’s a must for black liner enthusiasts AND cat ladies alike. A true black matte, it applies sans any blue or green undertones at all (an issue I have with MAC Smolder), and I love, LOVE layering it beneath powder shadows for super quick smokey eyes.
  2. Waterproof Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Engraved feels softer than my favorite tabby’s squishy tum. It’s a long-wearing pencil perfect for those days when you go straight from work to the gym. Oh, and if you’re looking to just get this pencil on its own, it’s also available now on the MAC website.
  3. Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack is like that one guest who refuses to go home at the end of the night. It’s a liquid pen liner that stays put no matter what, through sweat, tears, unexpected slushie attacks in the hallways at school, etc. I LOVE how long it lasts, but I have a tough time drawing precise lines with its stiff felt tip. This one’s also available by itself on the MAC website.

Time to get my hair did!

You know how I’ve been wearing a lot of hats lately, right? Well, there’s a good reason for that. 🙂 My roots are out of control! — so I’m off to the salon this afternoon to get some color.

I’m REALLY looking forward to it, too. I’m thinking maybe caramel ombre highlights like in this picture of Mila Kunis, or maybe reddish brown ones like Nicole Richie.

Do you dye your hair, or are you one of those lucky gals who doesn’t have to do a thing?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

“Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack is like that one guest who refuses to go home at the end of the night.” Hahahaha, Karen, you crack me up.

I saw these the other day in Oslo airport when I was about to board the flight to Berlin. I’m more keen on the Smoky Palette which was not available.. also I don’t know how much use I will get from the Penultimate Eye Liner. Oslo airport only had the eyeliner set, lipstick set, and lip gloss set.

I picked up Peacocky’s Kissable Lipcolour in Temper Tantra instead.

As a black liner addict, this is a set after my own heart 😛 (No, but seriously – I’m swimmin’ in them!)

P.S. I think you may have accidentally mixed up your left and right for the photos 😉

I’ve never tried anything MAC! Do you think this little kit would be a good starter?

I love Mila Kunis’s hair! I love the colors!

Feline smudges like crazy on me. Or at least it used to. Now it does a lot less of that, but I’m not sure why. xD

I dyed my hair a whopping 10 times in college (over the course of 2 and a half years) but never professionally. I just liked experimenting with the colors. But now I see my natural hair color as that all purpose black dress that can be accessorized by everything else (on my face). It’s actually a challenge and fun.

Oh god my roots need SUCH TLC it’s not even funny. At least right now my dyed color is a really close blond to my natural dishwater blond that it’s not tooooo obvious.
I just hit up the Clinique free gift event in Vancouver: redness solutions + a whole makeup bag fulla goodies and an appointment for a free makeover! So excited!

I agree with your philosophy, Karen. Maybe we should start a new religion and worship black eyeliner! I own both Feline and Engraved, but I went for Stila’s liquid liner instead of MAC’s. I own black liners I haven’t even opened up. I might need a lantern and a hard hat to go dig through that pile…

It wasn’t the point of your post, but I’ve been disapponted with Smolder because it looks kind of blue smudged out. Then here, you say the same thing! Thank you for making me feel like I’m not crazy (others have raved about Smolder) and giving me an alternate choice as well!

ohh at first I was all over that liquid liner, but it’s a shame it’s hard to apply. I’m a huge liquid liner klutz as it is, so I definitely can use all the help I can get in that department. I do like the look of the Kohl liner though! Have fun getting your hair colored 🙂 Can’t wait to see it!

“Smart Hoarding,” I love it. Haha. I love the look of black eyeliner on other people, but I feel like it looks weird on me. Maybe I just need more practice, like some sort of eyeliner boot camp!

I quit highlighting my hair a few years ago, so now I have my natural color for the first time since about 1983! Turns out I have dark blonde hair with white, er, platinum blonde highlights.

Much as I love the name of Feline, it does not work on me at all. If I tightline with it, I end up looking like a raccoon within two hours. 🙁
