Oh, Philosophy — Your Duos Make Me Blush!

September 18th, 2009 by Karen 42 Comments

Smokey eyes? Check. Vampy lips? Check. Along with the return of boots, sweaters and new episodes of some of my favorite TV shows (counting down the days ’til The Mentalist premiere, holla!), fall also heralds the return of bold makeup colors for lips and eyes.

i-heart-the-mentalist

I’ll gladly climb aboard the drama-for-yo’-mama makeup train, but it’s not hard to overdose on bold color statements that take a look from chic to cheap.

So when I’m wearing a smokey eye or a dark lip, I’ll tend to go with sheer colors on my cheeks (for balance), colors like Philosophy’s new You Make Me Blush Duos ($25) powder blushes.

There are four available — Hugs/Kisses, Happy/Healthy, Honest/True and Happy/Healthy. I have the Happy/Healthy duo, which comes with two matte blushes, one a warm orangey brown and the other a blue-based pink.

I know, I know! 🙂 The colors look *crazy* bright in the pan, but both apply surprisingly sheer on my skin. Worn separately or together they add just a whisper of sun-kissed color.

I like using Happy/Healthy on my cheeks to offset bolder makeup elsewhere on my face, but it works well by itself with simple dressed-down makeup looks, too.

Behold: the headband that always feels like it’s squeezing my brain!

The You Make Me Blush Duos are part of Philosophy’s new Supernatural makeup line. The folks at Philosophy filled the products with skin-tastic ingredients like vitamins, minerals and specialized antioxidants but left out potentially irritating chemicals like parabens, phthalates and sulfates. Yea, Philosophy! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

All I gotta say is WOOT

After spending this afternoon broiling in The Beast (slang for the East Bay Area), where I was running errands, I returned home to this random act of awesomeness.

Someone left a life-size cut out of Muhammad Ali in our apartment complex laundry room!

dont-call-him-cassius

See, this was why I liked living here … despite the killer heat and small size of our apartment. Where else could I have gotten a legendary athlete standing guard over my Old Navy tank tops? 🙂

But that wasn’t the extent of this afternoon’s awesomeness. I also met these new Chanel Jade polishes, YES!

chanel-jade-polishes-i-die

Hawt, damn! I hope I dream about this green tonight…

T-minus two hours until the official start of the weekend (at least on this coast). It’s on like Donkey Kong! 🙂

What are you up to? I just finished my shower, and now I’m sitting down to watch Sin Nombre on DVD.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hi Karen, I like the Philosophy duo but I would use only the pink shade, the other one is not really matching my skin tone and about the Jade collection :(((((
I love the green nail polish since I first saw it, after I saw how it looked on short nails and …what else can I say…It was love at first sight

Waah I went to Sephora a couple of days ago to get my grubby little hands on the lit from within cream blush and they don’t have the Supernatural makeup line from Philosophy!!! They did have the foundations and concealers but no blushes…:-(

Btw, Karen how would you apply these blush duos? Do you mix them before applying or just apply one after the other?

Thanks hope you have a great weekend too!

      Hi Patti,

BOO! Have you tried Nordies? They usually carry Philosophy there.

For this blush, I like to apply it in few different of ways. Sometimes I use ’em separately, other times I mix ’em together. For this look I applied the brown shade first and then did just a touch of the pink on the apples. 🙂

How has your weekend been? I spent most of today unsuccessfully organizing my home office.

LOVE that hottie from the Mentalist. And the blushes are gorg. Are they matte or shimmer? My skin gets so shiny, I can only wear matte blushes (or the shimmer sinks in more pores — ugggh!)

That blush looks so pretty on you! I know it’s a blue pink in the pan, but it looks so peachy on you, like the color of the top you’re wearing in the picture. That jade polish is gorgeous too! I love how you can catch a glimpse of the shimmer from that angle. I hope you swatch it and show us how it looks on your nails. 🙂 Oh, and let us know what you think of that movie. It’s on my Netflix queue, but my queue moves so slowly when I forget to send movies back for days. :-/

It’s truly gorgeous! It’s pretty close to MAC’s Peppermint Patti, although Jade is a little greener and has this amazing luminous quality. If I had to pick one, I’d pick Jade! It was a three-coater though, not the best application in the world, but not the worst either. I put it on too late to see, but I think it will really be at it’s best in the sunlight!

I am dying to get Chanel Jade Green nailpolish but it is not being released in Canada. I will have to find an E-retailer that ships to Canada. I also really like the look of a bare face with super pink rosy cheeks with just a lightly stained lip.

Spent time with some friends in the North Bay and caught a late showing of September Issue. if you like Vogue & the fashion industry, I recommend it. I liked it a lot. The fashion & make up…. oh my!

The Melting Pot is awesome! More than a meal… it’s an experience. Seeing the movie gave me a better appreciation of the magazine.

I know it’s a little bit late to post here but I wanted to say that you look lovely and that your complexion looks flawless in that picture. Two questions: can the brown shade of the duo be used as a contour or is it too sheer? and could you please tell us what other products are you using on your face? as I said you look lovely and I’d like to recreate the look… Now I wonder what I was doing on 19th that I missed this post
