Neutrogena Age Shield Hand Cream Saves Hands AND a Few Bucks

September 11th, 2008 by Karen 29 Comments

I’d fight a hungry runway model for my tube of $6 Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Age Shield Hand Cream.

Lightly scented (like flowers and soap), this drugstore steal-of-a-deal will sure come in handy this fall and winter when my paws are crazy dry.

Despite how rich it feels, it doesn’t leave a greasy film, for which it earns big props from me — there are few things I hate more than hand creams that leave a slippery residue.

Neutrogena also outfitted Age Shield Hand Cream with full-spectrum SPF 30 sun protection.

A dime-sized dollop thoroughly treats both of my hands and cuticles. The cream absorbs quickly, too, perfect for quick applications when you’re out and about. This isn’t one of those creams you’ll have to spend 10 minutes massaging into your hands, looking like a criminal mastermind plotting world domination!

I’ve been using this on my hands for about week now, and even in that brief time I think my hands look less rough than they did. The fines lines in the creases between my fingers are less noticeable than they were. I can’t comment on the cream’s ability to treat age spots, though, because I don’t have any on my hands.

Neutrogena Age Shield Hand Cream provides long-lasting protection from both UVA and UVB rays, those responsible for up to 90% of the signs of premature aging. According to Neutrogena, it’s clinically shown to improve the overall age impression of hands in just four weeks (I noticed a difference in one).

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Age Shield Hand Cream improves what ages the look of hands most — roughness, age spots and fine lines.

I’m officially sold on Neutrogena Age Shield Hand Cream and ceremoniously plopped a tube into my big ole’ purse.

One thing I would change about the product is the screw-on cap. I wish it had a twist cap like Lippman’s Rich Girl Hand Cream. I get the feeling I might lose the screw cap in my bottomless purse.

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Age Shield Hand Cream

Price: $6
Use: To moisturize and protect hands from sun damage
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Despite my minor issue with the cap, I love everything else about Neutrogena Age Shield Hand Cream, including the $6 price.

How are you doing this lovely Thursday? When I woke up this morning I felt an odd compulsion to listen to songs by Journey.

Just look at that touchably soft hair! I would not be surprised if one of the boys dated a hair dresser who encouraged him to condition.

Don’t stop believing!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

i love this hand cream too super affordable and a little goes a long way

my fiancee put me on this a couple years ago cause his paws get really dry in the winter – but he also has a phobia of putting anything on his body for moisturizing because he despises anything remotely oily on him.

another cream i love is one by kiehls ultimate strength hand salve – that stuff kicks butt as well as works miracles on softening hangnails especially during the rough cold winter months

You crack me UP. I love Journey (even went to one of their–sadly–Steve Perry-less concerts 2 years ago), and did you know their new lead singer was 1) found on YouTube by one of the band’s original and still-current members, since he apparently posted videos of himself singing a crapload of Journey songs, and 2) is a wee Filipino dude? He’s no Steve Perry, but homeboy ain’t bad. I also had “Don’t Stop Believin'” blasting on my iPod today…yes, this is what White Sox fans must do to keep the spirit alive until October. 😉

I love this product as well. I kind of wish I discovered it earlier, since I never really thought to put sunscreen on my hands.

oh I am all over this. It’s so dry here and I have to wash a lot for work, I’m in constant need of awesome hand creams. Plus with golf and biking I slather up with sunscreen but never remember my hands. This sound perfect! and way cheaper than my favorite cream, L’occitane shea butter.

When my hand had a burn from oil splashing, a doctor gave me a sample of this creme (the regular version.) It’s the richest hand creme ever and it’s very soothing to the scabby areas. Thanks for putting this up, I’m sure lots of people will appreciate the info.

    Karen-
I saw this at Wal-greens and was wondering if this worked well or not. My hands dry out like MAD CRAZY and so I have to apply lotion like all of the time. I use Burts Bees Salve at night and that seems to help a ton. I also like their Banana Hand Cream and the Almond Milk Hand Cream. I tend to like the Almond Milk one better because I think it leaves my hands feeling powdery not greasy and slick. A co worker of mine swears by Vaseline’s hand cream. I like it too but it reminds me of my now deceased grandma who always kept a ginormous bottle of it in her living room. Funny what we remember isn’t it?

I’ve never tried this before but I will now. Have you ever used Eucerin before? That’s my hand cream of choice even though they sell it as a face cream. I love that stuff, but I don’t think it is has spf.

Oooh im always on the look out for a good hand cream that doesnt require a mortgage to be able to afford like the Chanel I really hope we have this in the UK, if so I will deffinately be picking one up!

In other news I take back every tiny bit of praise I gave to American boys it turns out they are just much better liars than their UK counterparts!! grrrr!!

    Hi YadiQ,

Funny, El Hub is the same way. If I come anywhere close to him with lotion that’s oily he says, “It burns, it burns!” LOL, the big baby.

    When are getting married?

I haven’t tried that one from Kiehls. It sounds like it’s serious stuff, so I’ll have to investigate!

    Hi Elle,

Ha! I actually knew that! Seriously, talk about a Cinderella story.

You know, I am really kicking myself for not putting sunscreen on my hands at a younger age, too. When I look at them I can tell that they are starting to change. Le sigh… can’t fight fate.

How’s the shedding sitch going? I still have to get Tabs his FURMINATOR!

    Hi Amanda,

Oh! If you’re active then this is great because it doesn’t leave your hands slippery and slimy. You can keep a good grip on those bike handlebars and golf clubs. 🙂

    Hi Dao,

Ouch, I have a burn mark from an oil splash, too. It’s from 1995 and I can still see the scar on my wrist (it’s shaped like a dolphin).

Hope you are having a good day!

Yah, you should totally try this as it’s fantastic. I just slathered on some right now!

I will have to try the Almond Milk Hand Cream for night. Does it smell good?

    Hi Jennifer,

Girl… YES! It can get hella expensive, but I don’t really have vices beyond makeup. I work another job to subsidize my hobby, so I don’t ask El Hub to buy stuff for me. I buy most of the products I talk about, but I also have friends all over the cosmetics industry who send me previews and samples, and then being a blogger helps too. Companies will send me products in the hopes that I’ll review them. I don’t have enough time to review and write about everything I’d like to. There’s never enough time. As it is I spend about 30 hours/week trying products and blogging… Taking pictures is the hardest part for me.

I find it easier if I don’t think about all the time and money I spend, lol!

    Hi Jess,

I’ve used Eucerin body lotion, but haven’t tried their hand cream. I bet it works well, as I remember the lotion being pretty fab. Too bad it doesn’t have SPF, though!

    Hey Karen!

Ugh, we’re still dealing with the little black tumbleweeds, and the little white hairs from her chest that go flying into the air every time she shakes around. It’s seriously crazy how much undercoat she still has. The Furminator does remove a lot, but she still has so much left! She needs The Furminator 2000 or something! Let me know how it works for you (er, Tabs 😉 ) when you get one.

I love Journey and my boyfriend makes fun of me for it! haha, I can’t really say I blame him.

Right now, I’m really loving Nivea cream. I have a little tin of it I carry around in my purse. I think it cost me like $1-$2, which you can’t beat!

    Hi Elle,

LOL, she’s just changing her outfit for the next season! Le sigh… I guess during this time the vacuum becomes your best friend. That, and the lint brush.

I *really* hope Tabs will sit still long enough for me to allow proper Furmination of his coat. 🙂 I’ve seen those commercials on TV, and while the dogs always look really happy and pleasant the cats look really pissed off!

I love those lil’ tins of Nivea. So retro, and the scent is lovely.
